Up for auction is a solid 1948 Cadillac Fleetwood 4 door sedan (133 inch wheelbase).  This is Cadillac’s first year for tailfins and last year for the infamous flathead V8.  This car runs and drives as is, however, nothing is beautiful on her other than the hidden beauty in her potential.

Mechanically, she runs very strong and has been updated with an electric fuel pump and an 8 volt battery to assist in starting.  Transmission shifts well and the car drives well.  The master cylinder is questionable, she stops well when the pedal is near the floor so it could use a rebuild.

Three of the four power windows work fine, the passenger rear window does not work and needs a new hydraulic cylinder (included), the power seat works well.

Cosmetically, she needs some loving care, the paint is cracking on most panels from a 1970’s amateur lacquer repaint in dark green, chrome is rough, dashboard needs repaint and the interior is usable and fairly comfortable to sit on but does not look too nice with cheap seat covers on the front seat and worn original fabric/leather on the rear seat.  The original headliner is in very good condition.  The is very minimal rust on this car, it has been garage kept the vast majority of its life so there are two small areas of rust through cancer only, RF fender and LF quarter each smaller than a baseball.  Stainless window and body trim is in very nice shape and there are some spare pieces that go along to the next owner.

With brake work complete, you could easily drive this car as a “rat rod” so to speak with confidence, and what you are starting with if restoration is in your mind is an extremely solid example of a neat late forty’s Caddy.

The wheels are non-stock 90’s vintage Cadillac wearing radial tires for a better ride, this baby just floats down the road like driving your couch.  I believe I have the original wheels to go with the car.

These Caddy’s are gaining in value with a number 5 condition at $3,720 and a number 4 condition at $6200, from a 2010 edition of the value guide.  This car is way above a 5 but not quite a solid 4 so my expectation is quite reasonable.

I have posted enough pictures to get a flavor for overall condition and I do have a short video of the running engine so you could hear how strong it sounds, just e-mail me with a request to receive the video.

I have owned and driven this car since 2001 but I simply have to start thinning my heard and I have projects that are ahead in line from this one.

E-mail questions and thanks for taking the time to look.

Hotter Cadillac CT4-V prototype spied testing at GM's Proving Grounds

Thu, Jun 27 2019

Cadillac already teased us once with the hotter CT4-V and CT5-V at the Belle Isle Grand Prix, but these photos are still the best look yet at what's next for the Cadillac V-Series. The car we're looking at in heavy camouflage here is a high-performance CT4, but we don't really have a name to call it at this point. Cadillac hasn't said, so it could be anything. We'll just refer to it as the faster V, as it's certainly looking a bit more racy than the warmed-over CT4-V already revealed. While the styling isn't drastically different from the CT4-V already out there, the front intake and openings look deeper and more aggressive. The middle, raised section of the hood is a little taller and the whole front-end design looks a lot like the one teased in Belle Isle. This vehicle even appears to have the same mirror design as the faster V. The side sills, quad exhaust tips and wide rear tires lend this prototype an aggressive look, but we did note that it doesn't have the big ducktail spoiler we saw teased previously. Maybe Cadillac is trying to keep a low profile while testing. A keen eye will notice a wild apparatus attached to the front, which would serve as a great jousting pole if you were into that kind of thing. We don't know exactly when Cadillac plans to introduce the faster V machines, but we wouldn't doubt if it happened before the year was out. The ATS-V and CTS-V didn't look wholly different than the pedestrian versions of those cars, and this prototype indicates Caddy may follow a similar pattern this time around. All will be explained from GM soon, but for now, we wait.

GM cutting vehicle trim options to save money for electrification

Sun, Mar 1 2020

Information continues to filter out about GM's plans based on comments the automaker made during its Capital Markets Day event in February. GM President Mark Reuss said the company's push to save money by rationalizing the number of build combinations will continue in 2020, carrying on the work done in 2019. As GM Authority covers, last year, the carmaker cut 3,500 components across model lines, a 12% drop in the number of parts it needed to stock in its plants. Reuss used the next-generation Chevolet Equinox and GMC Terrain as examples for more cost efficiencies, saying build possibilities — which include international markets and their options — will be cut by more than 50%, and use more shared parts. "We will reduce total trim levels on Equinox and Terrain from eight to six," Reuss said, "reduce engine variants from 11 to 5, reduce build combinations from more than 200 to less than 100 per program, and see significant cost savings of an already paid-for architecture that took the mass out, helping us self-fund electrification programs." GM will plow a large amount of the money it saves into its ambitious EV program. In 2017, the automaker said it intends to have 20 electric vehicles on the market by the end of 2023, some of which could be shared between brands. An automotive analyst at Seeking Alpha and a piece in Automobile attempted to put specifics to what we should expect. As Automobile points out, the first two EVs in the 20-car program are already on sale, being the Ariv Meld and Ariv Merge eBikes available in Belgium and The Netherlands. We've seen the Cruise Origin autonomous rideshare taxi, although we don't know when it will hit the road. The next three, which we should see in the metal shortly, are two Cadillac EVs and the GMC Hummer EV pickup. The Cadillac pair are expected to be sized like the XT4 and XT5, and along with the Hummer, should hit the market starting in late 2021.

Reuss says Cadillac CT6-based Buick could happen

Wed, Apr 15 2015

Could the upcoming Cadillac CT6 and its Omega platform spawn a Buick variant? According to General Motors' product chief Mark Reuss, it could potentially be in the cards, but "not yet." "We're working on that," Reuss told Automotive News at the 2015 New York Auto Show. While there hasn't been a large, rear-drive Buick on dealerships since the Roadmaster in 1996, the company gave a big hint that it could head in that direction with the Avenir Concept, shown earlier this year at the Detroit Auto Show. As Automotive News explains, a rear-drive Omega-platform Buick could be a real hit in China, where consumers buy 13 Buicks for every one Cadillac. That move would be a big help to GM's bottom line, too, as it'd significantly increase the Omega platform's economy of scale. If a large Buick based on the CT6 were to head to China, though, it likely wouldn't be a simple case of badge engineering (thank God). Reuss hinted to Automotive News that while the mixed-material construction of the CT6 platform "is very flexible," doing an "identical version of that platform or not is a different conversation." What are your thoughts? Should Buick adopt the Omega platform for an Avenir-based sedan? Should that vehicle be sold here in the US, or should it be a China-only offering? Have your say in Comments.
