Rare, Fully Loaded 1978 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz up for auction with NO RESERVE, last year for the big body Cadillac Eldorado Highly sought after Eldorado Biarritz edition, 99k, 425 V8. Options include rare power "Astro Roof" moonroof, split bench power seat with Biarritz edition pillowtop leather seats and passenger recliner, tilt and telescoping wheel, "Guidematic" auto headlights with auto dimming, cruise control, AM/FM CB radio, dual mirrors, remote trunk release with power pulldown, thermometer on driver's mirror, and the standard power windows, power steering and power disc brakes. I bought the Caddy from the original owner in Florida, I have the original brochure and owner's manual. You can see a shot of it at its former home at the bottom, I included it to show the original wheels and hubcaps that are included. The Biarritz editions are hard to come by and finding one with the "Astro Roof" option is even more unusual. Only 2000 Biarritz Edition Eldorados were produced in 1978 and only 475 were built with the Astro Roof. The Biarritz with Astro Roof option package added $3,547 to the base price. The enhancements to the exterior included a Cabriolet roof treatment, with back and rear quarter window styling that is unmistakably different than other Eldorados. The formal, smaller rear window features a French seam, and an aluminum cross-over molding with vinyl insert that sweeps across the roof, separating the painted front section from the padded, Elk Grain Vinyl rear section. Additional chrome and brightwork included stainless belt molding, brushed stainless steel accent moldings with black accent grooves run from under the rear quarter window forward to the hood, terminating in a spear-like design near the front edge. Opera Lamps are located behind the rear quarter windows, and emit a soft glow at night. From Wikipedia: "Because of their limited production and extravagant styling, the 76-78 Biarritz Edition Eldorados are now highly sought after by numerous collectors." You can read about these unique Eldorados at the following links: http://automotivemileposts.com/eldorado/eldo1977custombiarritz.html Mechanical: The previous owner obsessively maintained it until he stopped driving and the Caddy sat in his garage for a few years before I bought it. Over the two years I've owned it I've done the following: new front end parts including both front axles/cv joints, shocks, ball joints, and bushings, new alternator and rear air shocks. I've also gotten the cruise control working and replaced the bulbs on the side "opera" lights and replaced the four stereo speakers. Things that still need attention: The a/c and heat work but recently the climate control switch has gotten intermittent (the switch needs to be moved back and forth several times before the fan turns on), it needs to be opened up and have the contacts cleaned and the a/c could use a charge of R12 if available or a retrofit to modern freon. One of the rear brake calipers has developed a slow leak, I add fluid periodically and the exhaust pipe needs a new "donut" gasket, it's gotten a little loud. The driver's seat needs a new switch and the power antenna needs to be put up and down by hand. The previous owner installed a foot button for the horn near the brights switch. Otherwise, all the amenities work, the AM/FM stereo and CB radio, the power windows are quick, the power moonroof and sliding shade work perfectly, the remote trunk release and power pulldown work as well as the illuminated vanity mirrors. I've had several 70's era Eldorados and this one by far runs and handles the best, you don't even feel the engine when you're stopped at a light. Cosmetics: The car got new paint in 2000 as well as a full replacement set of bumper and fender fillers and had the padded vinyl top redone with NOS material at the same time, it looks like new. I replaced the faded original carpet with a fitted correct syle carpet off Ebay. The door panels, rear panels dashboard / dash display, headliner and visors are in excellent condition, no cracks, tears or missing parts. The driver's seat is showing some wear in the leather, I had planned on having the front seat leather redone. The cushioning of the seats still feels soft and comfortable. The Caddy has never been hit, the floors and frame are solid and the chrome shines nicely. She's never been out in the winter, she's always been a "Garage Queen". The title is in my name, current finances force the sale of this rare Caddy. The engine starts easily even after sitting for weeks and the garage floor is always dry when I pull the car out. She cruises nicely on the highway, shifts smoothly, four wheel discs stop the car quickly, she idles evenly and the suspension is silky smooth over the roughest roads. On the highway she'll get 13-15 MPG, pretty good for a 70's luxury cruiser, and the 425 V8 seems to have more power than the 75-76 Eldorado 500 V8. The directional/brake/turn signal/headlights/brights work properly, as well as the wipers and the the external three color fender indicators (lights, brights and turn signal). Drives overall like an American classic luxury cruiser should. I reserve the right to end the auction early as the Caddy is for sale locally and I'm open to reasonable buy it now offers as well. I can assist with shipping in the USA or internationally if necessary, cost of shipping to paid by buyer. I can recommend a door to door auto shipper I've used in the past; they're professional, reliable and have great rates. |

2017 Cadillac CT6 Plug-In Hybrid Drivers' Notes Review | Seamlessly green
Fri, Jan 5 2018In many ways, the Cadillac CT6 Plug-in Hybrid is the most interesting car the brand sells. Despite having a turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid powertrain, it makes the most torque of any CT6, even the twin-turbocharged V6 model. It also has a claimed electric range of 31 miles and can still manage a combined fuel economy of 26 mpg with just the gas engine. Even its origin is interesting, since its final assembly point is China. To cap things off, it's also the second most expensive CT6 in the range. To find out if the CT6 is worth that money, and has more to offer than fun facts, we spent some time behind the wheel. Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore: I achieved 34.1 miles per gallon for my roughly 14-mile roundtrip in the CT6 hybrid. This sedan is a rolling example of where luxury is heading in the near term: Existing models souped up with hybrid tech, and the green features will go along way toward keeping big sedans like this relevant. It's a smart play for Cadillac to add a product like this. Otherwise, it's a fairly standard-issue CT6, which is a solid car. The flashy head- and taillights look great. The design is angled, creased and nicely proportioned. The interior is comfortable and roomy. It's a nice car. Cadillac invested a lot in the CT6, and it shows. Rumors have long swirled that the brand will add a larger flagship, though in this climate, that's hard to envision. For now, the CT6 does the job as Cadillac's standard bearer. Associate Editor Joel Stocksdale: Of all the different CT6 variants available, the CT6 PHEV is the one I would pick for myself. Why? Because the hybrid powertrain finally delivers on the quiet, refined driving experience I want from a flagship luxury sedan. I was a bit surprised by this, too, since the gas engine under the hood is the 2.0-liter four-cylinder used elsewhere, which isn't the smoothest thing in the world. But assist from the electric motor helps keep the four-cylinder from having to wind up too much to move the big Caddy, and when the gas engine does rev hard, it's well muffled by whatever insulation is in the car. Besides aural refinement, the power delivery is oil-on-ice slick. The blending of electric and gas power is seamless. There's no waiting on the turbo to spool up, and there's no loss of power at higher rpms with the electric motor. They work in perfect harmony providing excellent low-down grunt and solid upper-end power. The transmission is super smooth, too allowing for happy wafting wherever you go.
Cadillac releases updated 2015 CTS
Sun, 10 Aug 2014Cadillac is in the process of applying the new wreathless emblem across its range one model at a time, but rather than simply slap the new logo on the existing models, it's taking the opportunity to roll out some revisions as well. First came the ATS coupe, followed by the updated ATS sedan, and now the flagship brand in the General Motors portfolio has quietly announced some revisions for the CTS sedan as well.
For the 2015 model year, the CTS - which was just introduced last year - gets a revised front end with that wreathless crest but also a new chrome grille with active aero elements on standard models and a black-chrome grille on the Vsport. The revised grille is flanked by new headlights, but behind them the engine lineup carries over: a 2.0-liter turbo four with 272 horsepower, a 3.6-liter V6 with 321 hp or - in the Vsport performance model - a 3.6-liter twin-turbo V6 with 420 hp that's still the most powerful V6 GM has ever made. All engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission (ditching the six-speed auto on previous versions) and (apart from the RWD Vsport) can be had in rear- or all-wheel-drive flavors.
Cadillac has also given the updated CTS some new electronics (including inductive smartphone charging, onboard wifi, and more advanced parking and lane assist systems) as well as new wheels, trims and color options, details on which you can read in the press release below.
GM announces net 220 job increase as Trump visits Michigan
Wed, Mar 15 2017GM announced today that about 900 jobs would be added (or, importantly, retained) ahead of President Trump's arrival in Michigan, where he is expected to discuss his plan to roll back fuel economy standards. The timing of the announcement is almost certainly not coincidental, as appending it to a Trump visit gives it a higher profile and dovetails with the President's jobs agenda. It's less likely the decision itself was made for those reasons, but the free PR boost is a nice bonus. As for those 900 jobs themselves, they aren't all new jobs. The only net gain is approximately 220 jobs at the Romulus Powertrain Plant, which produces the 10-speed automatic transmission that's proliferating through the company's lineup. The 180 jobs at Flint Assembly and 500 jobs at Lansing Delta Township are retained jobs – that is to say, spots the company found for workers who would otherwise have been laid off. By the way, the Flint jobs will help with production of heavy-duty pickups, and the Lansing jobs are to produce the Chevrolet Traverse and Buick Enclave. Finding jobs for manufacturing workers in the auto sector, whether new or retained, is admirable. No matter how GM couches it, the company has created or retained a total of 7,000 jobs this year, and its total reinvestment in US production is around $1 billion. But these decisions are business ones, not political ones – timing the announcements to make them seem inspired by economic policy, or the political situation, is simply smart PR.
