1979 Cadillac Phaeton Time Capsule 9,100 Original Miles Collector Owned on 2040-cars
South Plainfield, New Jersey, United States
For Sale is my 1979 Cadillac Phaeton with 9,100 original miles. I am a collector and the second owner of this spectacular time capsule Cadillac. I purchased this car from the original Texas owner in 2005 with 6,800 miles on it. I have documentation and photos of the then elderly man standing in front of the car in front of his home the day I purchased it. It was a family treasure parked in the garage for Sunday drives. This car had been kept all original as a drivable collector.
Since I purchased this car I performed annual services, changed battery, headliner (factory correct) bumper fillers, new power antenna, new remote alarm and door and trunk unlock, air shocks and built in battery tender etc. I drove the car on average 350 miles per year to keep it active. The Car is stored in my temperature controlled warehouse with the rest of my collection. This phaeton is fully equipped with special edition leather in as new condition (smells new), am/fm cassette, and cruise control. Twilight auto headlights. Illuminated entry, auto pull down trunk, all manual and best of all a set of NOS 1979 vintage appliance true spokes on vogue tires. These are period correct and could be purchased brand new on this car in 1979. I have the original hub caps as well. I have over $5,000 invested in the car that I am not looking to recoup, I am selling for fair market value only. The car is all original. The slight flaws- very few but I will list every single thing my perfection eyes know of, no hold backs at all. A small dent on the underside of the driver side rear quarter panel, see photo- unless I pointed it out you would not see it. I did not want to repair it and risk blending the paint on the quarter panel. There is extremely light discoloration on the driver door armrest; from light wear again I did not want to risk a color match. The trip odometer sometimes sticks when you press to reset the trip mileage. On my last ride home I noticed the fuel gauge sticks after a fill up for a few seconds, then releases. The car is a true 9,100 miles, the undercarriage and gas tank still factory clean. Paint is all original except bumper fillers, which match great and pinstripe was matched perfect. The hood and trunk paint are not as bright as the rest of the car, but shows very well as you can see in the photos. I never sell cars, and never intended on selling this one. I searched for this year, make and model for years, however I recently purchased an additional collector car I have been searching for and I getting tight on space in my temperature controlled storage warehouse. This is a great car, turns heads and stops traffic, and rides like a dream. My price is set very fair; you can buy this car take out the entire family, keep it for a few years and sell it for more than you purchased it for. The car is in South Plainfield, NJ 07080. Buyer must pick up or ship at their expense. $1,000 deposit within 24 hours of winning bid, full payment and pick up with certified or bank check within 7 days of winning bid. |

Cadillac Super Cruise gets system enhancements, more compatible highways
Wed, Jun 5 2019Cadillac is updating Super Cruise to make it available to use on more highways, and it will offer better performance, too. Previously, Super Cruise worked on about 130,000 miles of highways across the continent. This update expands that to 200,000 miles. That's because GM has mapped that many more miles to be compatible with its lidar mapping system. As for the performance update, Cadillac says there will be enhancements to the driver monitoring system. That's the key feature that separates Super Cruise from all the other systems out there, making it a truly hands-free experience. It's able to quickly tell whether your eyes are on the road, and it reacts accordingly. We asked for details about the improvements, but all Cadillac would tell us is that there are "slight refinements to the driver attention system to even more accurately detect driver attention." Perhaps it's related to reports of sun-related issues plaguing the infrared monitoring camera. We can't tell you for sure. As for the extra miles, Cadillac says some added highways now include limited intersections and traffic control devices. Basically, there may be a stoplight or some cross traffic thrown into the mix now. Since GM has actually gone and mapped these areas, the car will tell you to take back control when approaching a railroad crossing, pedestrian crossing, stoplight or stop sign. Cadillac included a map (above) depicting the original and new Super Cruise compatible highways. You'll notice there are a lot more highways in the midwest and southeast, in addition to almost being able to cross the entirety of Canada now. Things are still a bit sparse in the western part of the country, but there aren't as many highways out there anyway. Owners of 2018 and 2019 Cadillac CT6s can expect to get the upgrade, but it's not as easy as you may think. Folks will have to take their CT6 in to the Cadillac dealer, where the "system enhancement" will take place. However, that enhancement doesn't include the additional miles. Cadillac says that update will be sent out over-the-air throughout the summer and fall. Updates for Super Cruise seem to be coming out with regularity. Last year Cadillac updated the system for easier activation, better lane placement (for passing large vehicles) and added gauge cluster messages for more information. We happen to love using the technology here at Autoblog, and gave it our 2019 Technology of the Year award.
Want to beat LA traffic? Chargers QB Philip Rivers has found a way
Wed, Sep 6 2017Slogging through traffic in Southern California is about as pleasurable as being slowly eaten by bears or being the awkward third wheel on a bad first date. It feels like it's never going to end. After the team relocated to Los Angeles from San Diego, Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers decided that three hours wasted each day in a car was too much. As The San Diego Union-Tribune reports, Rivers' rolling office makes his days more productive than ever. After deciding that he wasn't going to relocate his family to Orange County, Rivers was stuck with the prospect of either spending considerably less time with his children or skipping out on much-needed film work at the team's training facility (not really an option given his profession). Instead, he began investigating a number of options to make his lengthened commute slightly more viable and productive. First, he considered carpooling with a teammate. That was still too much of a pain. He looked at flying a helicopter, but unless it could land close to both his home and the practice field, it too was useless. A quick online search eventually led to the rolling footage review room you see here. Becker Automotive Design in Oxnard, Calif., builds these rolling offices for a wide range of customers. It sells modified Mercedes-Benz Sprinters, Ford Transits, and, in Rivers' case, a Cadillac Escalade with a raised roof. His needs were simple: a television and an HDMI input so he can hook up his computer. No fancy armor or recumbent exercise bicycle. His goal was to review game footage on his commute rather than slowly waste away behind the wheel of a car. Photos show a sea of leather and wood and a mini fridge, so it's not totally without niceties. Column | Philip Rivers' new ride allows him to stay home https://t.co/btwCEgIsFq pic.twitter.com/DHud3ho5UF — The Union-Tribune (@sdut) September 5, 2017 The Union-Tribune lists the price of the Escalade at about $200,000. That's not including the driver's salary. In 2015, Rivers signed a four-year deal with the Chargers worth $84 million, so he's not hurting for cash. If it increases productivity and saves the headache of being behind the wheel in traffic, we can imagine more people with means (and not just quarterbacks) will be opting for such daily transport. Cadillac to vie for Secret Service armored car contract, new Beast?
Wed, 03 Jul 2013President Obama has used the same armored limo since his inauguration in 2008. Known by many as The Beast, the Presidential Limo was provided by Cadillac and earned its nickname in large part because of its massive size, which isn't surprising considering that its Caddy-shaped bodywork is said to sit atop a heavy-duty truck chassis.
It seems the Secret Service may be in the market for a Beast replacement, having issued a request for proposals for a new armored limo. According to Motor Trend, Obama's backup limo is a leftover from the Bush Administration, so it will be interesting to see if this new machine will serve as a replacement for The Beast or for its backup. The contract is to be awarded by September 29, 2013.
The boys from MT contacted Cadillac, Lincoln and Chrysler, and Chrysler is the only one that would confirm that it is not pursuing the contract. Cadillac may have the inside track, as it has provided Presidential limos since 1993, but Lincoln also has a long and storied history of chauffeuring the President.
