I have decided to try and sell this project to acquire my dads car which he decided to sell. I have done a crap load of quality work to this car and now feel comfortable passing it along to someone else to finish.   I am happy to say the car is now pretty much major rust free and solid project and the only rust that remains can be solved with lower quarters and needs a normal paint and body, interior restoration. Many details need to be finished. It all depends on how far you want to go. Such as removing frame to clean and final prep work. I am offering it hoping to spur the interest of a buick owner that knows and appreciates the car. If it doesn't sell I will finish the car and move on from the idea of purchasing my fathers car. So I ask no crazy low ball offers. I have over 19K in this car with purchase. (yes I know crazy LOL) and a untold amount of labor. I have included a couple pictures of the car before teardown. I bought the car site unseen from a very dishonest ebayer. That was a big mistake. I don't intend or could ever do what that guy did to anyone. However a bad situation as been turned around. I feel this is a great restoration vehicle and feel comfortable selling it to someone now to finish.

Here is what we have so far.......

Front frame and suspension detailed and painted. All components are new including calipers, rotors, all rubber. A arms and many parts where powder coated, Tags, Paint marking and time was taken to make for a nice clean look. ( not all marks are authentic) .

Rear frame is very solid normal rust and no major issues for a 40 year old car. I have not assembled parts of the car because I was going to remove the body to clean the frame and prep for a driver quality protection. Also at that time either paint or body shutz the under carriage. The car has a 8.2 3:42 posi rear and sway bar. It appears original to the car but I can't find any numbers on it. They could show after cleaning a prepping. My understand was 8.5 were standard on the 1971 - 72 cars. I know this not to be the case. I know of 3 original 1971 GS cars with build sheets that have 8.2 rears and stamped to match. At this point I can't find any number to verify original.

Has big block bolt on steering shaft, tilt column , and sport rally wheel. Not installed at this time due to possible removal of body. It's in good condition and just needs painted.

Engine is a 1970 SF high compression 455 non numbers matching . The engine was torn down to the block trying to find a running issue. ( ended up being a sloppy timing chain) Everything was inspected and put back together, new cam and lifters, ( Sealed power mild SP cam) new timing cover, and bolt on components, everything was detailed and the engine runs fine.( I have a video of it running after repairs) It has a non matching Turbo 400 the hits hard in Forward gears but unsure if it was fluid is low or slipping in reverse as it does slip some but will move the car. I never got far enough to check before tear down. If the fuel tank or source was installed , steering column and reconditioned dash was installed this car would run and move. Brakes work and would move to load if time was taken to install.

The car has had a trunk pan, rear under seat pan , front and rear floors installed. Any rust was repaired along the way. They are complete and need only finish from the bottom. The trunk is complete and ready for seam sealing and detail. The truck drop off and inner wheels houses where perfect on this car, the drivers cowl was almost perfect and a small repair was made to the pass cowl. they are complete inside and out and no work required.

A new metal dash was installed at the factory spot weld from a doner car. It is completed painted and heater box gone threw, wiring harness installed and cleaned and prepped. Its ready to install all reconditioned dash items

I have rust free front sheet metal , fenders, doors obtained from Arizona , the hood is in great shape with no issues. (These where 2000 dollars on there own) I have finished and powder coated inner fender wheels, along with rust free powder coated core support. Very nice head light bezels and hood molding. Pretty much everything but rear quarter skins to do the body and complete the car. ( I have retained the old fenders and core support and still have a this time)

I have a completed full and restored chrome dash bezel, new wood grain, new chrome radio bezel with radio. It has the gauge package, and 24 hours clock I converted over to quartz. Everything has been gone through and it is ready to install. Dash pad is almost like new and in great shape.

Car has N25 bumper and the correct mounts bolted to it. ( factory) front and rear bumper needs re-chromed. ( quote was $495 front and $ 595 rear ) front bumper brackets and braces are painted and complete. Rear is still bolted to car as in pictures.

New tires and center caps. Driver quality rims where installed and look good. Have rear seat frame and springs, front seat needs recovered and pretty much is your basic interior restoration. All piston interior panels

New top cylinders, lines and pump was gone through. Top works fine but is not functioning at this time due to dash being out, However it can be put up with a battery. The top is new but not installed correct and the wrong color ( has one inch tear on pass side at bow). this could be fixed for a driver and a couple hours the top could be adjusted and not need replaced. Factory top color was white.

This is is one of 147 cars made . Factory colors are code 53 Cortez gold with a white top and pearl white interior. Options are as follow. Power steering, power brakes, Air condition, rally suspension, rally gages ( no tach) Big block 455 , 3:42 Posi rear, N25 bumper, Lighting group I have many pictures of the restoration as it went along. The car in many areas was good but in many areas very strange to repairs needed LOL. However it is a nice solid car now to finish. I hate to give her up and if she doesn't go that is fine with me. If it wasn't for the opportunity to buy my fathers,  I wouldn't be selling.

The core support new radiator and dash could be installed along with a temp fuel source and this car could be driven on a trailer with the steering column reinstalled. I might add I also have a new fuel tank and straps, trunk

GM will stop reporting monthly U.S. vehicle sales

Tue, Apr 3 2018

DETROIT — General Motors said on Tuesday it will stop reporting monthly U.S. vehicle sales, saying the 30-day snapshot does not accurately reflect the market, and will instead issue quarterly sales. GM will also no longer report monthly sales in China, its largest market, and Brazil. GM will provide monthly data to the U.S. Federal Reserve, industry associations and government agencies across the globe, but that data is not made public. Analysts and investors rely on monthly U.S. vehicle sales not just to track the performance of individual automakers, but as a barometer of the health of the world's second-largest auto market and as an indicator of consumer confidence in the U.S. economy overall. GM and its Detroit rivals Ford and Fiat Chrysler have relied heavily on sales of high-margin pickup truck and SUV sales to boost profits. GM's total U.S. sales, its second-largest market, are down 3.2 percent for the first two months of 2018, reflecting a 6.8 percent drop in retail sales to individual customers, the company reported last month. GM executives have expressed frustration that comparisons of monthly U.S. sales results among rival automakers are distorted by short-term discount programs, and by differences in strategy for selling vehicles in bulk to rental car fleets. "Thirty days is not enough time to separate real sales trends from short-term fluctuations in a very dynamic, highly competitive market," Kurt McNeil, U.S. vice president for sales operations said in a statement. GM's actions could prompt other automakers to also switch to quarterly U.S. sales reports. Major automakers will report March U.S. new vehicle sales on Tuesday. Until the early 1990s, most U.S. automakers released sales results every 10 days. The former Chrysler Corp. stopped reporting sales on a 10-day basis in 1990, and rivals followed suit over the next three years. GM executives are betting that investors will quickly adapt to receiving U.S. sales data every three months, as investors in other retail sectors already have. Retailers such as Walmart report sales on a quarterly basis. Reporting by Joe WhiteRelated Video: Image Credit: Reuters Earnings/Financials Green Buick Cadillac Chevrolet GM GMC US

GM laying off more than 4,000 workers Monday morning

Sat, Feb 2 2019

According to reports from Automotive News, The Detroit News, and CNN, General Motors plans to begin laying off more than 4,000 salaried workers starting Monday morning. In a statement to AN, a spokesperson for the automaker said, "We are not confirming timing. Our employees are our priority. We will communicate with them first." We've been expecting layoffs at General Motors since November, 2018. At the time, the Detroit-based automaker announced it would seek to shed 8,100 salaried employees, shut down five assembly plants in North America, and kill off several slow-selling models. One month earlier, GM offered buyout packages to 18,000 workers and said it would seek to cut its global workforce by 25 percent. A spokesperson said at the time the moves were "proactive steps to get ahead of the curve by accelerating our efforts to address overall business performance." The cost-cutting moves are expected to save GM up to $2.5 billion in 2019 and as much as $6 billion by 2020. David Kudla, CEO and chief investment strategist of Mainstay Capital Management, referred to the impending culling as "Black Monday" and told The Detroit News that the layoffs would begin around 7:30 a.m. and continue in waves throughout the coming days and weeks. GM plans to deliver on its fourth-quarter and full-year 2018 earnings report on Wednesday. President Donald Trump plans to deliver the annual State of the Union address a day earlier on Tuesday. We expect to hear plenty more from both sides over the next several days.

GM raises 2023 guidance on strong sales, higher profits

Tue, Apr 25 2023

General Motors beat first-quarter profit estimates and raised its full-year earnings and cash-flow guidance after vehicle demand at the start of the year surpassed expectations. Its shares rose in premarket trading. GM made $2.21 a share in adjusted profit in the first quarter, compared to a consensus forecast of $1.72 a share. Revenue rose 11% to $39.99 billion, it said Tuesday, which was more than the $39.24 billion analysts expected. The stronger results stem from rising sales in the US, even in the face of higher interest rates and inflation. GM executives said demand was strong enough to revise 2023 guidance upward, boosting profit estimates for the year by $500 million to between $11 billion and $13 billion. “We did it with strong production and inventory discipline and consistent pricing,” GM Chief Financial Officer Paul Jacobson said on a call with journalists. “All in all, weÂ’re feeling confident about 2023.” The Detroit automaker raised per-share full-year guidance to between $6.35 and $7.35, up from $6 to $7 a share, and said free cash flow would also increase by $500 million to a range of $5.5 billion to $7.5 billion.  GMÂ’s shares pared a gain of as much as 4.4% before the start of regular trading Tuesday, rising 3.5% to $35.50 as of 6:55 a.m. in New York. The stock was up 1.9% for the year as of the close on Monday.  North American Strength The automakerÂ’s sales were particularly strong in North America, where first-quarter earnings rose before interest and taxes rose to $3.6 billion. Vehicle sales rose 18% to 707,000 in the region. Jacobson said the company originally expected to sell 15 million vehicles in the US this year, slightly less than the 15.5 million annualized rate automakers foresaw in the first quarter. North American demand was enough to offset a weak performance in China, GMÂ’s second-largest market. The automaker continues to struggle in the country, where its vehicle sales fell 25% to 462,000 vehicles in the quarter. Profits from its joint ventures in the market slumped 65% to $83 million.  The market has struggled overall in the wake of Covid-19 restrictions and foreign automakers have had to overcome a growing preference for Chinese brands by competing on price, squeezing profit margins. The situation in China probably wonÂ’t significantly improve until the second half of the year, according to Jacobson. GM remains on target to sell 150,000 electric vehicles this year, the CFO said.
