This beautiful classic 1976 Buick Riviera is an original, rust free, unrestored, survivor in amazing condition. It has traveled only 72,309 miles (as documented by receipts) since being bought new by Carl Nyberg from Russ Dellen Buick Oldsmobile Pontiac GMC. When Carl passed away, his son Rick took over caring for it and when Rick passed away, his daughter Kymberli became the new caretaker. Kymberli did not have a garage to keep the car in and rather than letting it sit out, she sold it to me. I had planned on keeping the car "forever" but circumstances have changed and I need to let her go. The Riviera has always been garaged, carefully maintained, never smoked in, and just babied its whole life. The original paperwork was saved as well as many of the receipts over the years. The Buick still wears its original code 36 "Boston Red" (aka "Firethorn Red") paint, except for the bumper filler pieces which were replaced and repainted since they crack with age. With the white vinyl top and red and white interior, the car has a very striking and classy appearance. I get smiles and "thumbs up" and compliments whenever I take the car out.

I always liked the 1976 Riviera since it was the end of the line for the classic Rivieras. It had the same basic platform Buick had used since 1963 and was the last year for the big 455 4-bbl V8 engine. I like the rear end styling and the "high level" brake lights which give the car a unique look, especially at night (see photo). They were classy boulevard cruisers that had a great ride and all the cabin comforts of a more modern car.

This Riviera is well equipped with the 60/40 notchback dual power seats, tilt-telescopic steering wheel, am-fm-8 track radio, power antenna, rear window defogger, speed alert (see 2nd needle in speedometer photo), cruise control, power trunk, fiber optic light monitors, chrome road wheels, and as you might expect, air conditioning, power windows and locks, and several other convenience options. To my knowledge, everything works except for the cruise control and the clock. My experience in the past is that the contacts in the cruise control enable switch get dirty from non-use and it is a fairly easy fix. I don't use cruise so it was never a high priority to fix it. Many times the clock will work again with just a cleaning and lube.

The Riviera was a trip down memory lane for me. I used to own a 1970 Buick GS 455 Stage 1 and a 1971 GSX as well as a GTO and a 442 with the 455 engines and although the Riviera is not as strong as those, it still has the torque and feel of a 455 and the sure shifting turbo 400 transmission behind it.

As mentioned earlier, this Buick is in amazing original condition but there are a few flaws that did not show up very well in the photos. As you might expect from a unrestored 38 year old car, the original lacquer paint is showing some cloudy/fuzziness on the top surfaces but as you can see in the photos, it still has a good reflection and looks darn good. There are a couple of small parking lot dings/chips on the body. Inside, the door panel arm rests have had some cracks repaired. The undercarriage has never been detailed and has no rust other than the normal surface rust on the unpainted pieces. These "defects" are very minor and as they say in the car hobby, "they are only original once" and for this reason, an unrestored car in this condition is always worth more than a restored one.

Mechanically the Riviera is in great shape and the car drives tight, smooth, and strong. The tires are older Michelin XH's but they are still in good shape and ride smooth. The battery, brakes, fuel pump and so on are all good and I would not hesitate to drive the car anywhere.

The Riviera is located in Payson, Arizona, 85541 which is about 75 miles northeast of metro Phoenix. I will assist in any way I can in getting the car delivered to you. Please note that even though I do not have the Riviera advertised anywhere else, I do reserve the right to end the auction early if bidding is sluggish so please do not wait until the last minute to bid to avoid the disappointment of finding the auction closed. Finally, although I have done my best to accurately describe the car, it is, of course, sold as is without any warranty.

This Riviera is really a unique and special car and a real survivor. Unlike most older cars that have been abused, neglected, owned by a bunch of kids, and then had someone try to bring them back to life, this one has always been cared for and has had pride of ownership and it shows. I hope the new owner will carry on this tradition. Not only does the car deserve it, but by doing so you will preserve a piece of history and ensure your investment will continue to go up in value. Here is a chance to own a collectable car that is fun to drive, draws a lot of attention, and yet is affordable and does not require you invest a lot of money.

Junkyard Gem: 2000 Buick Regal GSE

Sun, Jul 19 2020

Except for a break from 2005 through 2010, and an indefinite break after this year, The General has been selling the Buick Regal since the 1973 model year. From 1988 to 2005, the Regal rode on the same GM W-Body front-wheel-drive platform as the Chevy Impala and Pontiac Grand Prix, and some of the more interesting W Regals came with ever-hairier versions of GM's supercharged Buick V6 engine. These Eaton-blown Regals were big, comfortable and quick, but they've nearly disappeared from roads by now. I found this 2000 GSE, the kingliest Regal of that year, in a Colorado self-service yard last month. Some junkyard shopper had already grabbed the Eaton M90 blower from this car by the time I got here, because everyone wants a blower or nine stashed in the garage (I have five at the moment). If you're looking to junkyard-supercharge your AMC Pacer wagon race car and use a Soviet truck carburetor for fuel delivery, the Eaton M90 is about the easiest to remove from the junkyard and the easiest to rig up on the car. This engine made 240 horsepower when new, giving the Regal GSE quarter-mile times below the 15-second mark. The price of the 2000 Regal GSE started at $25,300, or about $38,640 in 2020 dollars. You could get the same engine engine and chassis with the Pontiac Grand Prix GTP sedan for $24,610, giving you near-identical performance and a sportier (but less dignified) look. Buick didn't bother making a manual transmission available in any North American W-Body Regal after the 1993 model year. This reduced the fun level in these cars, but probably spared owners a lot of broken axles, CV joints, and hubs. This car has the optional Monsoon speaker system, also found in some Volkswagens of the same era. Apparently Monsoon systems for home computers were all the rage during the early 2000s. Did the Oshawa plant lift that "One grade only and that the best" slogan from the Canadian Corps in Passchendaele in '17? It sounds like a Commonwealth slogan of an earlier era. This car looks pretty good inside and out, but most Colorado buyers seeking a powerful used four-door these days seek out trucks. It doesn't take much of a mechanical problem (or accumulation of parking tickets) to doom a car like today's Junkyard Gem. So many features!

Two nearly new 1987 Buick Grand National 'twins' found in garage after 30 years

Fri, Apr 7 2017

Back in the '80s, a Buick Grand National could leave a lot of vehicles in its dust. The final, 1987 version of the menacingly styled performance coupe produced 245 horsepower and 355 pound feet of torque, and it was never designed to sit still, let alone for 30 years. But two low-mile Grand Nationals did just that. At the time, it was widely known that nothing like the Grand National would be built again, as the Regal platform would be moving to front-wheel drive. So a lot of buyers stockpiled Grand Nationals and rarer GNX versions with the idea of making a buck on them when they gained value. Some people even bought several. That's what happened to these two cars, recently unearthed from their slumber. Thirty years of storage has turned them into barn finds instead of showroom beauties, and they haven't exactly been flawlessly preserved. A story reported on gm-efi.com shows the cars – the "Twins," as they're called – parked side to side, the way they were laid to rest decades ago, with thick dust on them. Two enthusiasts, Shawn Matthews and William Avila, originally contacted the owner, who had posted them for sale on Facebook with a staggering $200,000 asking price. After inspecting the cars and confirming they were legit, the prospective buyers managed to strike a deal for an undisclosed sum. The story does say the seller was a bit eccentric, demanding money in hand before the cars could be touched at all, but the cars were eventually acquired and transported to a shop for desperately needed refurbishing. Time has caused the headliners on both cars to droop, and it's obvious all gaskets and fluids will need to be addressed, but both cars have extremely low odometer readings: One has 807 miles on the clock, while the other hasn't even reached 600. The car with a more miles was moved "once in a while," so clearly the original owner couldn't resist giving it a go while the other one slept. We couldn't've, either. GM applies to trademark Buick's Electra name in Canada

Mon, Dec 27 2021

At Auto China 2020 in Beijing, Buick revealed an Electra concept with a design language called Potential Energy created by one of GM's Shanghai-based design studios. A press release about the concept said the "all-electric crossover offers a sneak peek at Buick’s vision for a new intelligent electric future." It's possible that the "intelligent electric future" could include the Electra name, as the Rivian Owners Forum discovered Buick applied to trademark that model name in Canada on December 20. Buick isn't new to the name, having put it on a luxury sedan it produced from 1959 to 1990. What better way to resurrect history with electricity using the name Electra and a design language called Potential Energy? As the Rivian forum also noted, Buick snuck a concept car into General Motors' promotional video for the Ultifi software platform that will connect owners' digital lives across vehicles and locations. For less than two seconds at the end of the vid, a seriously chic fastback sedan speeds through a digital landscape, a Buick tri-shield logo set into what looks like an active rear spoiler. We don't see Buick building this car, but we'd love it if Buick did. What we imagine more likely is a more production-possible evolution of the Electra concept shown in Beijing last year that had Ultium batteries powering two electric motors that shared a combined 583 horsepower among both axles. The sprint to 60 miles per hour was said to take 4.3 seconds, range estimated at about 410 miles. The dihedral doors enclosed a buttonless cockpit with a rectangular, retracting steering wheel, huge curved screen, eConnect software, and an AI-powered assistant for feature control. There was also a skateboard tucked into the rear bumper for last-mile travel to the destination or the half-pipe. We expect Buick to launch at least one crossover in 2024, and another in 2025. One of them will likely compete with the Ford Mustang Mach-E and the production version of the Chrysler Airflow concept. Related video:
