If you know your muscle cars, you know that the Buick GS 455 is rare. All you have to do is look at closed auctions on eBay to see how often they come up and what they sell for. I like to be straight-up, so let's start from the beginning. I purchased this car a month ago, with the intention of keeping it and putting a little work into it, or re-selling straight off. I was never intending to make any big profit if I sold, and I'm still not. I feel I paid a fair price and can find someone else to pay a fair price. I'm not keeping it for one simple reason--I realize that I don't have the time to devote to the car. I guess at a certain point you just know this is a job for another person. That said, I've had the car to a mechanic, who looked it over and said nothing needs any immediate attention. I just replaced the battery, so you're starting new right there. Now that the battery has been replaced, the engine starts with no problems and has the nice throaty rumble you want from these cars. I was told by the previous owner that the engine was rebuilt 4 years ago and have no reason to doubt it, as it appears he was honest about the car and its history when it was sold to me. The mechanic and I dove into the engine compartment to confirm that it is a 455 stamped engine; the number is 1231738, which checks out to a 1971 455, so I believe it is original. The 455 engine is more valuable than the 350 engine, so if you see a GS 350 car, you are not comparing apples to apples. The 455 has 310 horsepower, whereas the 350 had 260 horses. The car drives just fine from what I can see. I haven't driven it very much because the front two tires have some dry rot. Back tires look fairly new. If you put some front tires on the car, it is a daily driver. If you want to do a little body work and paint the car, you're going to have a sweet ride for a great price.
The gentleman who sold me the car inherited from his father, who owned it since the early 1970s, but never used it as his own, so his knowledge was somewhat limited. The color is called Bittersweet Mist and appears to be original. The original 455 labeled air cleaner is not installed, but sitting in the trunk. I believe with the aftermarket Holley carburetor, it might not fit. The car has aftermarket electronic ignition. This car had factory AC, which is a good selling point, but the AC compressor is not with the car; you can find the original ones on eBay or other old stock vendors, or you can just buyer a new one. The interior was replaced fairly recently, as it appears pretty much unblemished, with the exception of one small indentation in the center of the front seats--possible a cigarette ash burn, as I see ashes in the little drawer where the lighter is. The headliner is new, so the interior is really good, except that the wood grain trim that fits over the AC controls is missing. The vinyl top is also new. You have some rust in the rear panels, but nothing horrendous. A friend who does body work said it could be cut out easily enough. You have some body filler on the rear quarter panel on the driver's side, as well, and some rot on the front of the hood. You have an automatic transmission with console shifter. The steering wheel is not original--I have the original in the trunk, but it is cracked. The pictures should give you a pretty good idea of what the car is, but if there is something else you need me to photograph, just ask. Good luck bidding--I don't think you'll be disappointed with what you buy!

Junkyard Gem: 2000 Buick Regal GSE
Sun, Jul 19 2020Except for a break from 2005 through 2010, and an indefinite break after this year, The General has been selling the Buick Regal since the 1973 model year. From 1988 to 2005, the Regal rode on the same GM W-Body front-wheel-drive platform as the Chevy Impala and Pontiac Grand Prix, and some of the more interesting W Regals came with ever-hairier versions of GM's supercharged Buick V6 engine. These Eaton-blown Regals were big, comfortable and quick, but they've nearly disappeared from roads by now. I found this 2000 GSE, the kingliest Regal of that year, in a Colorado self-service yard last month. Some junkyard shopper had already grabbed the Eaton M90 blower from this car by the time I got here, because everyone wants a blower or nine stashed in the garage (I have five at the moment). If you're looking to junkyard-supercharge your AMC Pacer wagon race car and use a Soviet truck carburetor for fuel delivery, the Eaton M90 is about the easiest to remove from the junkyard and the easiest to rig up on the car. This engine made 240 horsepower when new, giving the Regal GSE quarter-mile times below the 15-second mark. The price of the 2000 Regal GSE started at $25,300, or about $38,640 in 2020 dollars. You could get the same engine engine and chassis with the Pontiac Grand Prix GTP sedan for $24,610, giving you near-identical performance and a sportier (but less dignified) look. Buick didn't bother making a manual transmission available in any North American W-Body Regal after the 1993 model year. This reduced the fun level in these cars, but probably spared owners a lot of broken axles, CV joints, and hubs. This car has the optional Monsoon speaker system, also found in some Volkswagens of the same era. Apparently Monsoon systems for home computers were all the rage during the early 2000s. Did the Oshawa plant lift that "One grade only and that the best" slogan from the Canadian Corps in Passchendaele in '17? It sounds like a Commonwealth slogan of an earlier era. This car looks pretty good inside and out, but most Colorado buyers seeking a powerful used four-door these days seek out trucks. It doesn't take much of a mechanical problem (or accumulation of parking tickets) to doom a car like today's Junkyard Gem. So many features!
2022 Buick Enclave Review | More style and features doesn't mean better
Wed, Feb 23 2022The Buick Enclave has been updated for 2022, and it delivers some added style and additional features, it also doesn't do anything to lift Buick's three-row SUV beyond average for the segment. For the most part, the 2022 Buick Enclave is the same as it was when this generation launched for the 2018 model year. On the plus side, it has a powerful V6 and a smooth transmission. The cabin is incredibly spacious, and additional standard safety features are certainly welcome. The base price is also quite low for three-row premium SUVs at just under $44,000. Where this biggest of Buicks falls short is in the finer details. The engine isn't well isolated, allowing coarseness into the cabin. The cabin also doesn't rise to the level of Lincoln, Acura, Infiniti and Volvo -- brands that aren't exactly the upper crust of luxury, but certainly beyond Ford, Chevy or Honda. For instance, while its controls are easy-to-use, the buttons and knobs feel low rent and are obviously shared with cheaper GM models. There isn't anything that makes it particularly stand out from the competition, either. So while the Enclave is spacious, affordable and decent enough to drive, we think there are nicer options wearing luxury badges as well as vehicles like the Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade that surpass it in their uppermost trim levels. Interior & Technology | Passenger & Cargo Space | Performance & Fuel Economy What it's like to drive | Pricing & Features | Crash Ratings & Safety Features What's new for 2022? The Enclave gets a variety of small updates mainly consisting of styling changes and feature additions. The exterior features new front and rear designs with new LED lighting front and rear. New wheel designs and exterior colors are also available. Inside, it's nearly identical to last year's model except for a new steering wheel, new push-button shifter and updated seat designs. A variety of other features have been added either as standard or as options such as a wireless phone charger, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a power sunshade for the rear sunroof, a front camera, head-up display, rear-pedestrian alert, adaptive cruise control, rear camera mirror and surround view camera. Furthermore, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear cross-traffic alert and automatic headlights are now standard. What are the Enclave interior and in-car technology like?
Buick Envision crossover to premiere in China
Tue, 01 Jul 2014Buick currently offers two crossovers: the compact Encore and the extra-large Enclave, leaving plenty of room to slot a mid-size crossover in between. And that's just what Buick is planning on doing. In China, anyway.
Previewed in the teaser above, Buick's upcoming new crossover is cloaked and nestled in between its aforementioned stablemates-to-be. Set to be unveiled in China sometime later this year, the model has been confirmed to wear the name Envision - at least in that market. That's the name which the concept version wore three years ago, but we're still waiting on word over whether that name will carry over to the US version or whether we should expect something different like Anthem. But we have to admit that Envision fits better in the brand's crossover naming scheme.
Shanghai GM isn't saying much about the Envision in the press release below, aside from it having "dynamic and assertive styling" backed by all-wheel drive and stop/start ignition. The last time Buick offered a mid-size crossover in North America was with the Pontiac Aztek-based Rendezvous that was discontinued seven years ago.
