1965 BUICK SPECIAL DELUXE

Up for Auction: SUPER LOW FAIR RESERVE !!!
We want to move our cars, not sit on them with crazy
reserve prices.  Check out our Feedback

I didnt see a catagory for the SPECIAL so we used Skylark
Obviously this is a Special Deluxe model.
For a 50 yr old car this Buick is a really clean un-restored
survivor. Its had at least 1 repaint, white like the original  color.
But dont see any real signs of bondo or rust repairs. Although
the rear 1/4s may have some rust on the lower spots or around
the inner wheel arch. Nothing major of course, its a solid AZ CAR.
The car always looks better in pics, but its still a nice body with
a nice original interior.  If you check out how Buick sloped the
rear back window, it almost has a Fastback design to it making
for a better profile then most 4 drs.

Car starts and runs, but it does idle rough and once warmed
up it smokes. Someone installed a good size 4v carb with an
adaptor and that could be the reason it smokes so much.
It also smells rich when you are driving it. I drove the car home
at night on a 10 mile trip and it ran okay, but Id suggest at
least put an original 2v carb back on it first along with a good
tune up and see if the smoking goes away. If not then it may need
more works like valve seals or rings. Honestly my first guess would
be the carb and tune up stuff first.
The car has been a daily driver for the last few yrs, but recently
the gas tank developed 2 leaks so it was parked recently.
I would suggest just getting a new fuel tank.

RESTORE it back to stock or do something along the restomod
way, or rat rod and have an awesome 1 of a kind car
your friends only wished they had for such a low investment.
I hate to say it, but some people may look at this as a nice
rust free parts car, but I think its too nice for that myself.
Maybe even make a Clone 4dr version of the famous GS !?

DRIVETRAIN:  best we can tell its a matching #s car with
the factory V8. Not sure if its the 300 or 340 motor but
probably the 4.9. Has options like PS, PB and AC. All the
AC stuff is there and connected, but its not currently functional.
The blower motor under the dash it bad (and it comes with a
new one in the box not yet installed)  Not sure what else the
AC needs.  Other details about what we know about the motor
was mentioned in the beginning of the ad.
Automatic trans feels good, shifts fine too. Not really sure if its
a 2 spd or 3 spd auto. Someone yrs ago
moved the shifter to the floor which works great and easy to use
and making it more fun to drive Ill be honest. Brakes work well
too. Drums all around stop the car fine, at the very least they
may need some adjusting because of a little pulling under hard
braking.

INTERIOR: All original blue interior shows some wear
and tear for a car with 140k on it. But its actually in
nicer shape then most cars at this age. Dr side bench
seat shows the worst of it all. The chrome inside looks
really nice with no pitting and still shines great .
Gauges all seem to work okay. Still smells like a cool old
car and even the stock AM radio works ! Driving it home
the other night listening to some 50s and 60s music with
the windows all down, you almost felt like it was 1968 all
over again. Cant get the RR door to open, probably just
the latch or something. Trunk is very clean on the bottom
again, just a little rust near the 1/4s.

EXTERIOR: Original color was Artic White and its had at least
one repaint over the yrs, still acrylic  enamel , Im sure over time
its had some body repairs but really they are hard to see.
Maybe its because of the white paint. But I dont see any signs of
huge bondo spots or rust repairs. Stainless and chrome  not in
bad shape for being 50 yrs old. But again its not a restored car either.

SUSPENSION: all factory the best I can tell and Im sure some bushings
are old and shocks, but again this stuff is easy to fix these days
then rusted out bodies. Its not as mushy or tank-like of a drive as I
expected to be. The car drives like a smaller 2dr car to be honest
and Im sure with a few upgrades it would be even more fun to drive.

Leave it stock or put some 20" wheels on it.

Check out ALL the pics below ----->

it may take a full minute for them all to load if you have a
slow connection, so be patient AND looks for the extra schroll
bar on the right side.
Az gets maybe 12" a yr of rain and Az very dry climate.
more info AFTER the pics etc. There are 100 large pics.

There you have it, probably The BEST represented Buicks on Ebay.

Shows you all the good as well as any bad, hope you appreciate them.
We put a lot of time and effort in marketing our cars and it shows.
People wait months for a car this solid to come up for sale
and even if you have to pay shipping to your area, it still beats
paying a body shop to hopefully fix a rusty car for weeks on end.
Having as much as the original steel on a restored car these days
speaks volumes.

Also, if you buy a car thats been "restored", who knows what sort
of surprises are hidden under new paint or thick undercoating.
People are flipping cars all the time when most of the jobs are
fast, for a quick buck and quality suffers.

Our auctions have NOTHING to hide .
Restore a car like this yourself or locally and you know
exactly what you have in the end.

Email us with ANY questions before you bid please

Junkyard Gem: 1973 Buick LeSabre Custom Hardtop Sedan

Sat, Oct 26 2019

The steps on Alfred Sloan's "Ladder of Success," in which you'd start your career by buying a Chevrolet and then move up through the GM marques as your wealth increased, stayed rigidly fixed from the 1930s into the late 1960s. By the early 1970s, though, "prestige creep" among The General's divisions had set in, with lower-zoot marques leapfrogging their betters with ballooning price tags and snob appeal; a fully-loaded Chevy Caprice could cost more than an Olds 98, a Pontiac Bonneville could out-snoot a Buick LeSabre, and the LeSabre itself came to threaten mighty Cadillac at the top of the GM pyramid. Here's a fully depreciated '73 LeSabre Custom Hardtop Sedan, once the picture of Malaise Era opulence but now brought down to earth in a San Jose self-service car graveyard. The high-rollingest of all LeSabres in 1973 was the Custom (though shoppers for full-sized 1973 Buicks really wishing to rub the noses of their lessers in their success could opt for the even pricier Centurion or Electra 225), and that's what I found among the Achievas and Cateras of this yard's GM section. Wasps now nest in the rust holes caused by rainwater seeping beneath the padded vinyl roof, but this car once told the world, "I've made it!" It went without saying that your big, comfy Detroit luxury sedan had a big, comfy front bench seat; let those frivolous rakehells in their Rivieras have their bucket seats. Believe it or not, a three-on-the-tree column-shift manual transmission was still standard equipment on the lower-level Buick Century in 1973, but all LeSabre buyers enjoyed two-pedal luxury that year. Some junkyard shopper grabbed the massive 455-cubic-inch (7.5-liter) V8 — rated at 225 horsepower, due to Nixon's stricter emissions standards and the switch from gross to net horsepower ratings — before I got here. I'm guessing this car got driven into the ground by the early 2000s (there's a 2001 calendar inside) and then spent the next couple of decades bleaching in the harsh South Bay sun before arriving here. So good, shoppers bought them sight unseen!

Cadillac and Buick boost GM's return to growth in China

Mon, Oct 12 2020

BEIJING — General Motors on Monday said continued market recovery from the COVID-19 crisis helped its China vehicle sales grow 12% on year in July-September, marking the Detroit automaker's first Chinese quarterly sales growth in two years. The second-biggest foreign automaker in China by units — after Germany's Volkswagen AG — said on Monday it had delivered 771,400 vehicles in China in the third quarter. That followed a 5% fall in the second quarter, when parts of China were still emerging from virus-busting lockdown measures. GM has a Shanghai-based joint venture with SAIC making Buick, Chevrolet and Cadillac vehicles. It has another venture, SGMW, with SAIC and Guangxi Automobile Group, producing no-frills minivans and which has started manufacturing higher-end cars. Sales rose 26% for cars under its mass-market Buick brand in the third quarter versus the same period a year earlier, while those of premium brand Cadillac jumped 28%, GM said in a statement. Sales of its mass-market Chevrolet marque fell 20%. Sales of no-frills brand Wuling grew 26%, whereas those of mass-market Baojun vehicles tumbled 19%. "GM's compact models returned to four-cylinder engines and that helped sales growth," said LMC Automotive senior analyst Alan Kang, referring to an attempt to market cleaner but noisier three-cylinder versions. "Cadillac also has a more complete lineup this year." China's biggest automakers' association expects overall car sales to grow by double digits in July-September versus a year earlier. Makers such as Toyota, Honda and Geely saw sales jump in the just-finished quarter. GM has seen its China sales suffer in a crowded market and slowing economy. To revive its fortunes, it plans to have electric vehicles (EVs) make up over 40% of new models in the next five years in China, where the government promotes greener cars. The automaker's Wuling Hong Guang MINI EV, a micro two-door EV with a starting price of 28,800 yuan ($4,200), was China's biggest-selling EV in August. GM's sales fell 15% in 2019 from a year earlier to 3.09 million vehicles. The automaker delivered 3.65 million vehicles in 2018 and 4.04 million in 2017. Related Video:

Buick lowering base prices on Regal, Verano

Wed, May 27 2015

Buick might have two new options for buyers in the market for an inexpensive luxury sedan. In a move similar to the introduction of the LaCrosse 1SV base trim a few months ago, the brand is ready to offer cheaper, entry-level versions of the Regal and Verano. Like the LaCrosse 1SV, the Verano 1SV mostly cuts dealer margins to reduce the cost for customers. The small sedan is priced at $21,065, plus $925 destination, which is a significant $2,315 drop compared to the next higher trim. The powertrain is still a 2.4-liter four-cylinder making 180 horsepower and 171 pound-feet of torque and a six-speed automatic, but buyers lose out on satellite radio. According to CarsDirect, dealers are making just $106 on this model, versus $935 on the higher grade. Meanwhile, the Regal 1SV charts a slightly different path to a lower price. The trim starts at $27,065, which is a $2,925 savings over the next trim. Buyers still get leather seats too, but the powertrain here is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder without eAssist that makes 182 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque and a six-speed automatic. That's a 77 hp deficit compared to the turbocharged Regal, and combined city/highway fuel economy dips to 23 miles per gallon combined, compared to 24 mpg with forced induction. Buick is introducing the 1SV models in hopes of grabbing more attention for the brand. "We added this new base level to some models as a means of expanding the opportunity for more customers to experience Buick vehicles. The addition of these trims will create an increased awareness and consideration of these vehicles when being compared to the competition," said company spokesperson Nick Richards to Autoblog. However, you might not see many of these inexpensive Buicks on the road. "On the Verano, we suspect dealers will opt to stay away from a car with around $100 between invoice and MSRP - that's the pattern we've been seeing on the LaCrosse 1SV, which is practically impossible to find," said CarsDirect Senior Pricing Analyst Alex Bernstein to Autoblog. Also, the Regal 1SV's switch to a less powerful, naturally aspirated engine "could be a turn-off for some shoppers," he said. Related Video:
