1963 Buick Riviera, 401 Wildcat, Pearl White On Red, Beautiful Driver Quality! on 2040-cars
Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas, United States
1963 BUICK RIVIERA Up for your bidding consideration is this 1963 Buick Riviera in the lovely pearl white on red color combination. Originally a white car it has been changed to pearl white and the color selection is quite striking. The interior remains red and it is original and unrestored. It is debatable whether one should restore the interior because it has survived over 41 years but that would depend on the new owners desires and intentions for the car. However it does show its age and a new interior would sure add a lot of pop to this legendary design. The car sports a "Riviera Built Expressly For James Bibler" console plate that appears factory applied and I would imagine that Bibler was the original owner. The gentleman that I purchased the car from was the owner of two '63 Riviera's and he took the better 401 Wildcat engine out of one car and had it professionally installed in this car with the better body and interior. He also had installed a B&M shifter that works great. The car starts easy and drives nicely down the road. The correct drum brakes were recently serviced and it brakes extremely well. The original Sonomatic radio is still in the car and does not work. All the AC equipment is all there but it too doesn't work. I have not attempted to repair the AC. The Riviera rides on (4) new Good Year tires and I believe the wheels are original. The windshield has had a repair done to it at some point and the workmanship was terrific as its hardly noticable. When I purchased the Riviera I noticed some rust in the trunk. I took the car to a restoration shop in Hot Springs, AR that specializes in classic cars and old hot rods to have them repair it and they did a great job. The chromework is okay, but shows a bit of patina. The bezels around the taillights should probably be replaced at some point. A box of numerous Riviera parts (pictured) is inside the trunk which include some badges and the original shifter. The 1963 Buick Riviera was a masterpiece of American automotive design and was the brainchild of Bill Mitchell. Mitchell is shown in one of the pictures posing by his iconic design which is on display at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY. In a recent issue of "Automobile Magazine," September 2006, "The Design Issue," the 1963 Buick Riviera was listed as one of the 25 most beautiful cars of all time in a list that included the 1955 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing, 1937 Bugatti T57S Atlantic, 1961 Jaguar E-Type, 1937 Talbot Lago Teardrop Coupe, 1963 Chevrolet Corvette split window, 1948 Cisitalia 202 Coupe, 1966 Ferrari 275GTB, 1967 Lamborghini Miura, 1966 Maserati Ghibli, 1937 Cord 812. Mitchell used to say often that he was inspired by both the Rolls Royce and Ferrari designs of the day when he created the '63 Riviera. The Riviera has a clean and clear title but it must be noted that the Buick VIN plate affixed to the car is 7J1072381 and the title depicts 7J107281, so a clerical error omitted the 3. Not an uncommon mistake but I don't want the winning bidder to have any surprises. Please e-mail me with any questions on the Riviera and I will quickly respond. Also a pre-purchase inspection is available most anytime... just e-mail for an appointment. Winning bidder is to pay in full within (3) three days of winning the auction. Cashiers check, bank-wire, personal check (must clear first), or cash in person are all acceptable methods for payment. If the winner wishes to use a transport company for delivery I will be happy to be available to the driver to expedite a timely transfer. I will also keep the Riviera inside my enclosed garage for up to 30 days while shipping arrangements are being made. If you missed out on an affordable '63 Corvette split window (the 80's) or an inexpensive '63 Avanti R2 (the 90's) ... don't miss this opportunity to affordably acquire another American legend from 1963: the Buick Riviera. Here is a car that looks good, drives nicely- a car that you can enjoy from day 1 and improve upon all while you have fun. Thank you for viewing my eBay listing and best of luck in bidding. Buick boss shuts down idea of importing Opel Adam
Wed, Mar 30 2016Anyone hoping for Buick to sell small city cars in America, you're not going to like this story. Buick boss Duncan Aldred has effectively ruled out importing the stylish Opel Adam city car for US drivers. Yep, this is us being bummed. Admittedly, the business case for Adam is not as strong as it used to be. Gas is cheap and consumers have fallen back in love with the idea of high-riding crossovers instead of efficient cars. That's why Buick sold twice as many teeny, tiny Encore CUVs in 2015 as it did its smallest car, the Verano. With that in mind, slotting in another car, let alone one below the Verano, isn't a great idea. Of course, Aldred didn't come out and say as much, even though he campaigned for a US-market Adam in the past. "I very much did feel when I came over that that could really help accelerate the Buick brand story," the executive told Automotive News at last week's New York Auto Show. "I don't see that as much. Whether the market shifted or the fashion nature of those cars has changed, I don't know. But I wouldn't be looking for a small, B-segment car today." That, friends, is a real bummer. Adding a car like the Adam, even in a small, captive-import capacity would add a real dose of fun to Buick showrooms and (we're guessing) would bring in younger foot traffic. Related Video:
Buick Electra-X EV caught testing on U.S. roads in new spy photos
Mon, Dec 12 2022Spies captured what they say are the first shots of the production-bound Buick Electra-X electric crossover. Bound exclusively for China (last we heard, anyway), the Electra-X is underpinned by GM's new Ultium EV platform, meaning it's fundamentally related to all of the American automaker's next-gen electric models even if we won't get one exactly like this. If you're a fan of GM's swoopy utility concept, we've got great news for you: it appears as though Buick's designers are bringing its design to production pretty much as we saw it originally. Our spies weren't able to get close enough to snag any shots of the interior, where we expect things to be a bit more toned down relative to the futuristic renderings offered of the concept, but we're prepared to be pleasantly surprised. We've already seen some evidence of Buick layering elements of this new look (as inspired by the Wildcat EV concept) onto its existing models. Earlier in December, the Encore GX was spotted in the wild wearing the new front-end look. Both the Wildcat and the original Electra concept were stunners, so we're excited to see what Buick's designers can do with this language going forward. Sadly, we've yet to see anything as low-slung and sexy as those original concepts, but we can always hope. Related Video
GM recalling 8.4M cars, 8.2M related to ignition problems
Mon, 30 Jun 2014General Motors today announced a truly massive recall covering some 8.4 million vehicles in North America. Most significantly, 8.2 million examples of the affected vehicles are being called back due to "unintended ignition key rotation," though GM spokesperson Alan Adler tells Autoblog that this issue is not like the infamous Chevy Cobalt ignition switch fiasco.
For the sake of perspective, translated to US population, this total recall figure would equal a car for each resident of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Montana, Delaware, South Dakota, Alaska, North Dakota, the District of Columbia, Vermont and Wyoming. Combined. Here's how it all breaks down:
7,610,862 vehicles in North America being recalled for unintended ignition key rotation. 6,805,679 are in the United States.
