This Buick was well taken care of by a couple here in Hemet.  The owner was a proud member of the Buick Club of America and a local chapter director.  That being said they babied this vehicle even after his wife passed and he could no longer drive.  Always garaged (since 1985) this vehicle was sold new here in Hemet.  Eugene purchased it on 1-23-1985 with 81,457 miles and as of this posting it now has only 84,873 miles.  On 12-13-2002 the transmission was rebuilt at 84,737 miles.  So here is how the numbers break down, 3,416 miles since purchase, 136 miles since transmission rebuild, and of those miles 55 were in the last month getting it ready to sell.

Eugene passed away in 2013 and I (Sheldon MacPherson 951-658-8444) am assisting his sister (Executrix of his estate) with the sale of his pride and joy.  I knew Eugene and his wife as fellow BCA members and vehicle events since 1986 when I came to Hemet.  They both worked in dealership parts departments, not the same one, and enjoyed the hobby of collecting Buicks.  This 1964 is the last of their collection.

I have put a few of the 55 miles on the car myself, taking pictures and finding out how the vehicle performs before listing here.  The engine, Wildcat 355, runs super quiet and has good acceleration due to having the High Output 300 cu in engine with 4 bbl carburetor and 11:1 compression ratio.  The good news is this combination with the Switch Pitch "300" transmission gets good mileage for all the comfort and style one enjoys with a Buick.

Inside and out the 50 year old Buick is a joy to drive and show.  The paint appears to be original with only very small rocker repair on the right rear just ahead of the rear tire.  It probably was done at the dealership before being purchased in 85 but I have no way of knowing.  There is just a slight amount of bondo showing if you look up closely to the bottom of the vehicle, other than that just very minor paint chips which have been touched up.  Not a perfect #1 car but a strong 2 to very high 3 with and interior that looks almost new.  Eugene had floor mats on top of floor mats to protect his show mats (note pictures).  What you cannot see in the pictures is the beautiful detail on the white crest in the center of the front and rear mats.  The one matching set is just like new and even smelled like they were just unwrapped.

The car comes with factory shop manuals, sales literature, salesman information, transmission rebuild information, temporary registration from purchase in 1985, owner's manual, and original matching numbers protection plan manual with plate.

If you have any questions please feel free to call and please leave a message if I am not at home.  My email address is s.macpherson@verizon.net and I have several more pictures, 56 total, and would be happy to help in any way.

A Nice, New Buick Aims For Middle Of The Road
Any time someone describes some portion of a car or a driving experience as being "nice," I want to either A) throttle them or B) run as fast and as far as I can from that vehicle. "Nice" is among the most insidious words in the English language - at best it's vague, and at worst, it conveys the exact opposite of its literal meaning. Yet it seems to be used with damnable frequency when it comes to verbally illustrating vehicles. "It looks really nice," or "These seats feel nice," or, heaven forefend, "It's got a nice ride," are all windy signifiers of absolutely nothing resembling a concrete opinion. "Nice" is the adjectival equivalent of meekly smiling and nodding your head.
Of course, I'm as guilty as the next person of having thrown English's least powerful descriptor around. There's even a chance that, rant aside, you'll catch me making nice in reviews to come. That's fine, but you should know that when you stumble upon such usage, past or future, that you've found a sentence in which I'm simply applying a bare minimum of effort to the task.

Hyundai, Buick dealer apologize in wake of Chinese baby social media incident

Sat, 09 Mar 2013

A very strange story out of China today, as Hyundai and a Chinese Buick dealer were forced to face allegations of using allusions to an infamous child murder on a social media site as a way of promoting the safety features of their respective vehicles.
The original sad tale goes something like this: On March 4, a man reported to police that he had left his infant child in a running Toyota RAV4 while he ran into a supermarket briefly. When he came back out, the vehicle and the child were gone. Later in the week a suspect turned himself in to the police; confessing to them that he had stolen a sport-utility vehicle, strangled the infant that was in it, and then buried the child in the snow.
As you might imagine, the gristly incident was covered massively in the Chinese media. (There was huge public outcry as well, as evidenced by the vigil scene, above.) "Changchun baby abduction" was very quickly amongst the highest ranking search teams of the China's Weibo social media site - an equivalent of Twitter in the English-speaking world.

Buick asks design students 'What could a Buick sedan look like in 2030?'

Mon, 09 Jun 2014

When you think of daring concept cars or emotional design-student projects, Buick probably isn't the first brand that comes to mind. It's not for lack of concepts; when General Motors ran down 11 concept-car highlights from Buick's 110-year history, three of them are from the past 15 years, with other experiments in that same timeframe like the Black Hawk, Centieme and Cielo left unmentioned.
But the company still thinks about them even if we don't. It ran a contest for students at Detroit's College for Creative Studies to create a Buick for the year 2030 that would incorporate future materials and transportation needs, and nanotechnology.
Best exterior design went to Sam Kenny for his Neo Classical Buick, Justin Salmon took honors for innovative material use, like having exposed algae on the bodyshell to generate energy, and Namsuk Lee nabbed best overall concept and best interior for his Buick Vision Sedan. You can read more about the design challenge and winners in the press release, and hear students talk about what went into the work in the video below.
