Up for auction is one of the best Grand Nationals I have ever owned.  I have had about 6 of these including a WE4 and a GNX which I sold in a pinch for $32K.  Seems like every time money gets tight the first thing to go is the Grand National.  This time it’s a 1987 Buick Grand National.  Highly optioned car including power seats, concert sound, (all power everything works), Posi rear end etc.  This car has close to 90 RPO codes on the trunk label.  It is a highly optioned, body by Fisher 1987 GN.  This car's mechanicals have less than 11,000 miles on them.  This engine which is very well broken in now is like new.  Suspension like new.  Drives like a newer car.

Over the years I have just come to terms that any Grand National with 75K miles on it needs certain things done.  Especially if the car has been abused at all.  This car came to me from a NJ guy that moved to Florida.  I bought the car from him after he threw a ton of money into it.  He did the entire suspension and undercarriage as well as the mechanicals so the car would drive like new for his wife.  It was her driver here in South Florida.  I bought it as a driver too.  I drive it in 100 degree weather with the AC blasting and it runs between 167-182 all day – even in traffic.  The oil pressure is super strong since the car has a high volume oil pump.  Oil pressure stays North of 35lbs at idle while hot and usually stays above 50lbs driving around at 1500 rpm.  It can be as high as 75lbs when it’s cold.   There are more than $8,000.00 in high performance parts just from the rebuild.  There is far more than $10,000 under the hood.   So that is basically what I will take for the car.  The car is basically free you are just paying for the engine and engine work done to the car.

The brakes have been converted/upgraded for safety from powermaster (Death Trap) to Kirban’s Hydroboost vacuum operated system.  Also done by trackside performance here in South Florida.

Car is a highly optioned car.

Jeff Rodick- Trackside Performance (google him – Jeff Rodick Trackside Performance) did the work on the car and has been taking care of the car for the past 2 years.  He runs a Buick Grand National race and tuning shop in South Florida.  His car was into the low 10’s before it was stolen in Bowling Green at the Buick National a couple of years ago.  He built this car’s mechanicals.  It is rock solid. (lots of receipts provided with sale):

Dyno runs after the build…. Engine produced 385hp at the wheels and 431 torque at 10 lbs of boostin the Florida heat 92 degrees outside.    Any low mileage GN for sale, over 100k miles, is going to need all this work done in short order due to tremendous under-hood heat that wears out components and quality of OEM parts. This car is a driver but it also a modified performance car. It can be driven anywhere with the AC on, wipers running, windows functioning, radio and cassette playing.  It drives like a new car down the highway.  No shakes, rattles or leak issues.  This car is beyond tight.

I run Mobil 1 synthetic + Zinc Additive(every 3500 miles) and engine idles smoothly and rumbles (has a great sound of course) at 30-45 psi oil pressure hot.   Also as a bonus, this car comes with an appraisal completed in 2008 by Auto Appraisal Group.  The car appraised at that time for $18,000.00 for insurance purposes based on a “sound” determination by the appraiser which means the car is daily driven. The only difference is that the car is mechanically much stronger now, with safer braking system thanks to Kirban’s and the bumper inserts need to be replaced.   This car is basically a resto-mod without the body restored.  The suspension and the mechanicals are done.  (The hard part).  You can finish the body to your liking.

In addition to the appraisal, this car comes with all of its original paperwork from day 1.  Even the bill of sale and finance contract, long expired warranty paperwork etc.  No surprises with this car.  No gremlins.   I took pictures of this car to feature its shortcomings (which are body), nothing mechanical is listed in the car’s shortcomings.  It needs cosmetics but I would not hesitate to drive this car coast to coast to coast and back right now.   It loves the highway although it will run 11’s as it sits.  I baby it though.  I am too old for headaches and have spent a lot of hard earned money making it mechanically sound and a beast (a fine balance).  Had it built special so it would never give me any problems- not overpowered like some cars.  Car is sold as is and where is and the buy it now is very close to the reserve.  If the car does not meet the reserve I will not sell it.  There is $10,000 easy under the hood.  Like I said before, the car is basically free.   So as is, where is.  No warranties expressed or implied.  Happy bidding. Car comes with all its original paperwork since birth with even the GM warranty card.  Too much to list here.  It also comes with a clean Florida title.   Heck, it even has a factory alarm.

GM recalls 2022 Cadillac XT5, XT6 and GMC Acadia for suspension issue

Mon, Jun 27 2022

General Motors is recalling a relatively small number of 2022 Cadillac and GMC crossovers to address the potential for missing or loose rear suspension hardware that is being blamed on a lapse in quality control at the company's Spring Hill facility. The campaign covers 223 examples of the Cadillac XT5, 159 examples of the Cadillac XT6 and 354 examples of the GMC Acadia. "General Motors has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain 2022 model year Cadillac XT5, XT6, and GMC Acadia vehicles," GM said in its defect report. "A fastener in the left-rear suspension toe link in some of these vehicles may not have been fully tightened during suspension assembly. After an assembly process was moved to a new area, error proofing equipment was not initially set up properly, which allowed a window where the operator might miss tightening certain fasteners without the failure being flagged." The issue was discovered by a quality engineer at the Spring Hill facility in March of this year, at which point GM conducted an audit to determine which and how many vehicles may have left the factory with improperly torqued or missing fasteners, narrowing down the recall population to the above 736 vehicles. No incidents associated with the defect have been reported in customer vehicles.  Related video: Recalls Buick Cadillac GM Ownership Safety

KBB 2013 Brand Image Awards has some obvious and oddball winners

Sat, 30 Mar 2013

The sixth edition of the Kelley Blue Book Brand Image Awards have crowned a wide range of winners - in a couple of cases the recipient of the laurels might say more about KBB users than they do about the actual winner. Compiled from the responses of more than 12,000 shoppers on KBB.com over the past year, there are 13 categories broken into non-luxury, luxury and truck segments "representing the combined wisdom of the American car-buying public."
The award categories have been revamped this year, with some dropping off, some new ones appearing and at least one other given a new term. What isn't surprising is that Honda won Most Trusted Brand for the second year running, Best Value Brand for the third year in a row and took Best Overall Brand, which wasn't on last year's list of awards.
On our own shores, in the non-luxury categories Chrysler got Most Refined Brand and Buick took Best Value Luxury Brand. Neither one of those marques won anything in last year's Brand Image Awards, while Cadillac, which won Best Interior Design Brand and Best Comfort Brand last year - those awards disappeared this year - went home without a single accolade.

2019 Buick Envision First Drive Review | Still not a standout

Thu, Mar 15 2018

ATLANTA – "We're in the fashion business," executive chief engineer Rick Spina told us as he introduced the 2019 Buick Envision. "Except with a lot of technology." Spina was referring to the changing whims of new-car buyers, which have prompted Buick to give the compact Envision crossover its mid-generational update early — just 18 months into its lifecycle — and drop its prices across all trim levels. As with much of our consumer goods, the Envision is made in China. That doesn't seem to have hurt it in the market, even though it wears the badge of one of the most quintessentially American brands out there. It even aced the IIHS crash tests, putting it in league with Volvo, Mercedes-Benz and Lexus. There's good news and bad news about how the Envision is doing. It's now the third-best-selling model in the Buick portfolio, behind the three-row Enclave in second place and the surprise hit Encore subcompact crossover in first. Sam Russell, Buick's director of marketing, reported 73 percent growth in the past nine months versus the first half of its market life. A full 60 percent of Envision buyers are new to the GM family, too, and Russell says that nearly half of those are likely to buy another Buick SUV when the time comes to trade in the Envision. And yet, the Envision trails in luxury compact-crossover sales, behind mainstays such as the Audi Q5 and Acura RDX, even amid crossover demand in the U.S. that has companies like Nissan posting record sales numbers and Ford canceling a redesign of the Fusion. Our test of the 2017 Envision found it competent, but lacking that "X factor" that would send buyers of German and Japanese marques flocking. Instead, we compared it to the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, and deemed those both better values. Perhaps Buick feels the same, because the base 2019 Envision now starts at $32,990, a $2,000 cut from last year. The Preferred trim level sees a greater drop of $2,400, to $34,495. Rounding out the naturally aspirated 2.5-liter grades, the Essence's price falls $1,900 to $36,795. The turbocharged 2.0-liter Premium and Premium II trims get a discount of $1,600 and $1,400, respectively. With those prices come changes that Buick hopes will make the Envision a more compelling prospect. Outwardly, the Envision sports a new grille, a winged affair to replace the 2018's waterfall and bring it in line with the rest of Buick's lineup.
