Restored about 10 years ago, over $25k in receipts. New paint, top, interior including leather inserts in the seats, as it was from the factory. Almost all chrome redone. All mechanical work that was needed was done- things like suspension, steering, exhaust. Engine and trans are original and running great. 401 Nailhead, Turbohydramatic trans. Fully tuned up last year, always garaged since restoration. Won its class in some local car shows, was featured in the Washington Times "Out of the Past" column.  Much attention paid to details- clock works, AM radio converted so it has FM. P/W, P/Seat, Tilt wheel, A/C (compressor engages but system has a refrig leak), P/Antenna. Trunk completely redone using correct material. Engine compartment body was painted when car was repainted, the rest is original but cleaned and in very nice original condition. Even has the "Wildcat Power" sticker on the air cleaner housing. Comes with all records of repairs done during the restoration, and photos showing the work that was done. I will also throw in a shop manual.

This car is quite stunning in person, and draws a crowd wherever it goes.  Correct bronze mist metallic looks super sharp, the chrome glistens, the glass is free from scratches or pitting. All gauges work, and I added water temp and oil pressure gauges to keep a more accurate eye on things.

I have taken this car on some 200+ mile roundtrips without a hitch. Yes, she has a good appetite for fuel, but loves the open road and is the fastest full sized car I have ever owned. The 401 Nailhead is a legendary Buick motor that puts out 325 hp and 445 lb/feet of torque. It makes maximum torque at pretty low rpms, which is why these engines were popular in drag racing cars back in the 1960s. This is also the first year that Buick had the Hydramatic trans- what I think is a nice improvement from the somewhat lazy Dynaflow.

There are comparably lots of '64 Rivieras around, but this car is rare. I have seen a few '64 Electras at car shows or in the Hershey car corral, but they have always been sedans. The Sport Coupe, with its standard leather buckets and center console, is far more unique.

So channel your inner Don Draper- with Mad Men just starting a new season, this is a fine example of American car building at its best during the Mad Men era.

Amazing car!!

U.S. new-vehicle sales in 2018 rise slightly to 17.27 million [UPDATE]

Thu, Jan 3 2019

DETROIT — Sales of new vehicles in the U.S. rose slightly in 2018, defying predictions and highlighting a strong economy. Automakers reported an increase of 0.3 percent over a year ago to 17.27 million vehicles. The increase came despite rising interest rates, a volatile stock market, and rising car and truck prices that pushed some buyers out of the new-vehicle market. Industry analysts and automakers said strong economic fundamentals pushed up sales and should keep them near historic highs in 2019. "Economic conditions in the U.S. are favorable and should continue to be supportive of vehicle sales at or around their current run rate," Ford Chief Economist Emily Kolinski Morris said after the company and other automakers announced their sales numbers Thursday. That auto sales remain near the 2016 record of 17.55 million is a testimonial to the strength of the economy, said Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody's Analytics. The job market, he said, has created new employment, and wage growth has accelerated. "That's fundamental to selling anything," he said. "If there are lots of jobs and people are getting bigger paychecks, they will buy more." The unemployment rate is 3.7 percent, a 49-year low. The economy is thought to have grown close to 3 percent last year, its best performance in more than a decade. Consumers, the main driver of the economy, are spending freely. The Federal Reserve raised its key interest rate four times in 2018 but is only expected to raise it twice this year. Auto sales also were helped by low gasoline prices and rising home values, Zandi said. It all means that people are likely to keep buying new vehicles this year even as they grow more expensive. The Edmunds.com auto-pricing site estimates that the average new vehicle price hit a record $35,957 in December, about 2 percent higher than the previous year. It will be harder for automakers to keep the sales pace above 17 million because they have been enticing buyers for several years now with low-interest financing and other incentives, Zandi said. He predicts more deals in the coming year as job growth slows and credit tightens for higher-risk buyers. Edmunds, which provides content, including automotive tips and reviews, for distribution by The Associated Press, predicts that sales will drop this year to 16.9 million.

GM follows Ford and Honda in skipping SEMA

Fri, May 20 2022

The list of automakers skipping SEMA has become longer. First reported by Muscle Cars and Trucks, and confirmed to us by a company representative, General Motors will not have an official presence at the aftermarket show. It joins Ford and Honda in leaving the show. It will be a large hole in the show, with the GM brands typically filling a significant swath of available show space in one of the main halls. GM hasn't provided much explanation for the move, either. The GM representative provided Autoblog with the same statement that Muscle Cars and Trucks got: "GM has made the decision not to participate in the 2022 SEMA Show. The SEMA show has always inspired us, and accessories and performance parts remain an important part of our business." We also asked if we would see any sort of announcements around the time of the show — Ford said it has plans to share some things around that time — however, the GM representative said that the company has no immediate plans for announcements. Certainly things could change between now and the November show, though. SEMA had previously noted that other exhibitors would help fill in some of the space vacated by these major OEMs. Another OEM, Volkswagen, is returning to the show after an absence, which will also help with the display deficit.
