I hate to do this because I will never find another one as nice but I need to sell my 2000 Z3M roadster. This is the 2nd Z3M I have owned and the finest one I have seen. It is in simply outstanding condition for its age. I encourage potential buyers to contact me and arrange to see the car in person. This is Imola Red with the factory hardtop and black interior. The car shows some very minimal wear for being 14 years old. The overall interior condition is outstanding. The interior is stock with the exception of the added leather armrest and AC Schnitzer pedal kit shown in the photos. The blown factory subwoofer has been replaced with a aftermarket unit. (The originals are all blown on these cars) The seats and leather are in excellent condition. The exterior is in great condition and the car has always been garaged. The paint is excellent however the hood shows some rock chips which are normal on these cars. The chips were touched up however I would only call the touch up job fair. The rest of the exterior is perfect with no dings including the doors. The trunk carpet has the glue removed to allow easy inspection of the area above the differential mount to check for cracks that have been a issue with these cars if abused. Don't buy one unless you can inspect this area! Tires are in excellent shape with at least 80 percent tread left. Rims are perfect with no curbing. They have been chromed by the previous owner but look fantastic! The factory hardtop is in perfect shape and a stand is included for the hardtop. The convertible top is in excellent condition. The rear window shows some folding issues however is in good condition. A brand new rear window is included if you desire to replace the current one. I saw no need. Overall this car is simply a outstanding example of a Z3M. No one who looks at it believes its 14 years old! The factory hard top is a hard to find very desirable option in perfect shape. The previous owner looked for over a year to find the best M roadster he could. He found the car in California and had it shipped to VA. I looked for 6 months before finding this one. It breaks my heart to sell it but I am out of garage space and I refuse to put the car outside even under a cover. The reserve is very reasonable for a M Roadster of this quality. Please feel free to contact me with any questions and arrange a viewing. The car will be advertised locally and I reserve the right to end the auction early. Thanks for looking!!

Behind the Scenes of BMW's 'Drift Mob,' Part 2 [w/video]
Tue, 01 Jul 2014After spending four days practicing about a dozen drift stunt moves in a parking lot for an upcoming BMW "Drift Mob" internet mini-film, Rhys Millen, Sam Hübinette, Dai Yoshihara, Rich Rutherford, and Conrad Grunewald are finally ready for show time. We are brought to the huge urban traffic circle to see the stunts performed midway through the day to observe for a couple of hours.
The undertaking is massive, with multiple cameras set up, scores of crew members, a helicopter filming from above, a rigged pickup for car-to-car shots, sidewalks lined with security and plenty of curious onlookers, and oh, yeah, a major intersection of a top world city shut down for an entire weekend.
The five drifting legends are nestled in their identical red BMW M235i coupes, which have been modified with special handbrakes but essentially nothing else you can't get on a stock version, and are listening to direction from director Mic Rodgers and stunt coordinator Riley Harper. We're basically given free rein of the set, to shoot the cars, the drivers, and at one point, even hopping in with Yoshihara for one of the admittedly more tame stunts. Even then, the g-forces are so severe that they flip our cameraphone's video recording from landscape mode to portrait. Yes, this is a pretty cool day to be reporting on cars, and as we said during our first installment of our behind the scenes coverage of Drift Mob, we're honored to be the only US media outlet here to tell the tale.
Are future vehicular hacks inevitable?
Wed, Jul 29 2015Before the hack of the Uconnect system in a Jeep Cherokee resulted in a 1.4-million vehicle recall, the potential software vulnerabilities in vehicles were already a hot topic with Congressional inquiries and even proposed legislation in the US. As cars' interconnected systems gain the ability to go online, they become open to a host of new threats. Automakers are trying to stop this, but it might be too late to put the genie back into the bottle. Throughout 2015, the issue of software security in vehicles has become increasingly vital. For example, the recent Jeep case wasn't even the biggest hack this year. In February, a major flaw was discovered in the BMW Connected Drive service that allowed researchers to remotely lock and unlock the doors and potentially affected 2.2 million cars. The fix was an over-the-air patch for the problem. Automakers are actively working to fix the issues. Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi reportedly are using encrypted connections and firewalls in their vehicles to prevent hacking. "Absolute, 100-percent safety isn't possible," Daimler spokesperson Benjamin Oberkersch said to Automotive News Europe. "But we develop our systems, tested by internal and external experts, so they're up to date." These vulnerabilities seem to be popping up more often. A successful hack took $14 in parts from Radio Shack in one case. There was also a 60 Minutes report earlier in the year about DARPA's ability to hack into OnStar to take control of a Chevrolet Impala. Experts aren't so sure companies can contend with hackers' advancement. "The difficulty for the carmakers at the moment is the question whether they can keep pace with advances in technology, and especially hacking technology," Rainer Scholz, executive director for telematics consultant EY, said to Automotive News Europe. "We seriously doubt they can." At this point, vehicle hacks are coming more from researchers looking for holes than from those with malicious intent. Still, the vulnerabilities are definitely there. It's up to automakers to keep patching the problems before they become dangerous to drivers.
