This X5M has never seen snow or smoke and has barely seen rain. This car has been maintained by Desert BMW in Las Vegas, despite some minor service recalls, (rewiring of side marker lights and replace brake vacuum line), just the standard "included maintenance" under the warranty has been done. This car is in excellent shape, both interior and exterior are perfect. Car is garaged and is hand washed every other week. As you can see in the photos, SPOTLESS. Why am I getting rid of it? I have another speed demon in the garage that I am enjoying on the weekends (Ferrari F430) and except for the occasional CostCo run, no real need for an SUV, so I am going back to a sedan as my daily driver. Why not trade it in? I ordered a Tesla Model S and Tesla doesn't take trades. So here I am hoping to find a good home for this wonderful vehicle.

Model Overview
BMW's X5 comes in four different models for 2010--the 30i, the 48i, the 35d, and the M. The high-powered M is propelled by a 555-hp twin-turbocharged 4.4L V8 with 500 ft-lb of torque, which BMW claims is enough to get the vehicle from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds. All X5 powerplants are mated to an advanced 6-speed automatic that drives all four wheels.

The X5 is built with a very stiff body structure and has a 4-wheel independent suspension, including a double-wishbone setup in front and a multi-link arrangement in back; the system is oriented toward a good ride and crisp handling on the road, yet it has the ruggedness for occasional light off-roading. The active steering system adjusts the effective ratio of the steering such that at low speed the steering wheel only needs to be turned twice to go from lock to lock, yet at high speeds the system has a long ratio for good stability. The system interfaces with BMW's AdaptiveDrive--part of the M Drive and M Dynamic Mode--to coordinate the steering system's operation with active roll stabilization and electronic damping control. Suspension in the M has been extensively tuned for aggressive driving, with stiffer rear mounts, upgraded control-arm bushings, a lower ride height and a standard self-leveling rear air suspension. Brakes, too, are improved, 4 Wheel BMW M Antilock ventilated disc brakes with huge 15.6-inch 4-piston rotors up front and 15.2-inch in the rear.

All X5 models come with xDrive, a full-time all-wheel drive system that normally sends 60% of engine torque to the rear wheels but using a multi-disc clutch can steplessly vary torque to the front wheels, sending more as needed. XDrive interfaces with the stability control system to enhance handling safety. The X5 comes with two rows of seating for a total of five adults. Dual-zone climate control is standard. A new revised version of the standard dynamic stability control (DSC) now includes brake fade compensation, brake stand-by and brake drying, to help increase overall brake safety in a wide range of conditions, plus the Start-off Assistant, which helps keep the vehicle from rolling backward when starting from a stop and facing uphill. Hill descent control helps modulate speed during steep descents off-road or on slippery surfaces. The X5 comes with a range of safety features, including advanced dynamic stability control and a rollover sensor that interfaces with the vehicle's air bag system. Front seat-mounted side air bags and a head-protection system for all outboard occupants are also standard. Climate control, navigation and entertainment functions, among others, are accessed through the BMW's second-generation iDrive controller, which now includes iDrive logic and hard drive.Popular options in this vehicle standout high-tech and luxury features like, heated rear seats, park distance control (front and rear), rain sensing windshield wipers and a head-up display. An M Package includes Sport seats, special trim, a sport steering wheel, active roll stabilization and electronic damping control. The Technology package includes a rearview mirror, park distance control and voice-activated navigation and BMW Assist with Bluetooth wireless technology

The best cars we drove this year

Tue, Dec 30 2014

Six hundred and fifty. That's roughly how many cars pass through the hands of Autoblog editors every year, from the vehicles we test here at home, to the cars we drive on new product launches, testing roundups, long-term cars, and so on. Of course, our individual numbers vary due to several reasons, but at the end of the day, our team's repertoire of automotive experience is indeed vast. But let's be honest, some cars certainly stand out more than others. So as the year's about to turn, and as we're readying brand-new daily cat calendars for our cubicles, our editors are all taking time to reflect on the machinery that made this year so special, with one simple, open-ended question as the guide – a question that we're asked quite frequently, from friends, family, colleagues, and more. "What's the best car you drove this year?" Lamborghini Huracan When I review the list of everything I drove in 2014, picking an absolute favorite becomes almost impossible. I mean, how does one delineate between the joy offered by cars as different as the Alfa Romeo 4C, Volkswagen Golf R, Mercedes-AMG GT S and even the humble-yet-wonderful Chevy Colorado? Okay fine, I'll just pick the Lamborghini. I drove the Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4 on a racetrack, in the mountains, and along southern coast of Spain. It felt like the king of the car jungle in all of those places, sucking the eyeballs of observers nearly out of their heads as it drove by, and almost melting my brain with its cocktail of speed and grip and intense communication. It feels a little easy to say that the one new supercar I drove this year was also my favorite, but the fact is that the Huracan is one of the finest cars I've driven during my career, let alone 2014. Judge me if you must. – Seyth Miersma Senior Editor Rolls-Royce Wraith There are a couple of ways to look at the question, "What's the best car you drove this year?" In terms of what was so good I'd go out and buy one tomorrow, that'd be my all-time sweetheart, the Volkswagen GTI. Or if I'm just talking about sheer cool-factor, maybe something like the Galpin GTR1, BMW i8, or Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG. But instead, I'm going to write about the sheer opulence of being the best of the best. The hand-crafted, holier-than-thou, shut-your-mouth-when-I'm-talking-to-you supremacy. I'm picking the Rolls-Royce Wraith. I drove the Wraith for a week in April, and was really, really impressed. This car does everything, perfectly.

2014 BMW 2 Series configurator drifts online

Wed, 15 Jan 2014

Monday marked the official, live unveiling of the 2014 BMW 2 Series. Not a company to rest on its laurels, BMW has unveiled the online configurator for the replacement to the much-loved 1 Series. Potential customers can select from either the 228i or go all-out and get the M235i. We shouldn't have to explain which car we've been building all day.
As a recap, a base 228i starts at $32,100 not counting a $925 destination charge. It includes 240 horsepower, 258 pound-feet of torque and, when optioned with the six-speed manual rather than the eight-speed automatic, a perfect 50/50 weight distribution (the 8AT balances at 50.3 in front and 49.7 in back). The M235i, meanwhile, starts at $43,100 (although you can't actually buy one for that, because the configurator forces you into a $1,450 Dakota leather interior). It offers up significantly more grunt, with 320 hp and 320 lb-ft from its 3.0-liter, turbocharged straight six.

Lexus to use BMW 3.0-liter straight-six in next-gen IS sedan?

Thu, Feb 21 2019

Here's a rumor so wild it needs a U.S. Fish and Wildlife permit. Japan's Best Car magazine reports that the next-generation Lexus IS will offer BMW's B58 3.0-liter inline-six as one of four powertrain options. That's the same engine found in the new Toyota Supra with 335 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque. What's more, the fourth-gen IS will resurrect the IS F model gone AWOL during the current third generation, and do it with the twin-turbo V6 from the Lexus LS 500. The current TTV6 makes the same 416 hp in the LS 500 as the 5.0-liter V8 did in the first Lexus IS F 12 years ago. According to the magazine, the other engine options would be Toyota's 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, a 2.5-liter for a hybrid model, and a 2.4-liter turbo. We don't know where that last engine fits in. BMW doesn't make a 2.4-liter, and Toyota appears to have retired all of its 2.4-liter applications. Ignoring that, the 3.0-liter straight-six looks like it would replace the current 3.5-liter V6 rated at 311 hp and 280 lb-ft. This wouldn't be the first time the Supra's engine has been ported to the IS. Lexus mavens will remember that two years after the introduction of the original IS in 1998, Lexus put the Supra's 2JZ 3.0-liter straight-six engine in the IS 300 — without the turbochargers, thank you. But Best Car's prediction would have zero relation to history. Those were both Toyota engines back in 2000, and even ignoring the power differential, the IS didn't compete with the Supra. Putting BMW's 3.0-liter in the Z4 and the Supra works because they are the same car. And again, even ignoring the power differential, the more powerful Z4 doesn't compete with the Supra. Best Car's scenario has BMW selling one of its best engines for use in a direct competitor to the 3 Series. Lexus would need to design an engine bay long enough to swallow an inline-six, not a bread-and-butter engine for the brand, yet still be sensible for three more compact powerplants. Then, assuming BMW and Toyota made the same deal as with the Z4 and Supra, the Lexus would be down by a healthy double-digit horsepower margin on its German foe. The new Supra gives up 47 hp to the roadster. Where's the upside? It's said the trim sedan will stay about the same size, on a wheelbase roughly four centimeters longer, but lose a substantial chunk of weight.
