1988 Bmw M5 Dinan on 2040-cars

everyone knows what the E28 M5 is so I'll spare you the history lesson on the model!
I was looking for the nicest M5 I could find when I got a lead on this low mileage example. It had 2 long term southern owners who were BMW enthusiasts. There are not much for paper records prior to my ownership. However I picked the car up from the previous owner at BMW Nashville and talked with the tech who had done the majority of the work on it over the last 12 years. The people at the dealership were very familiar with the car, after all its a very rare car, and if you want more info on the history of it prior to my ownership I'm confident they can answer many of your questions. There aren't many of these left with this low of miles, and those that are out there generally get snapped up by Enthusiast Auto Group and get stuck with remarkable price tags and are subsequently sold to concourse collectors never to be driven again. (seriously take a moment and go check out their prices and then come back and click buy it now on this listing!). this car is not a concourse car, its a driver for a TRUE enthusiast! The driver seat shows some wear, the car is not 100% stock, the paint doesn't look like it just rolled off the showroom floor. That said. the seats are not in desperate condition, there is plenty of life left in them! The upgrades have been done to enhance the drivers enjoyment of the car (safe reliable Dinan Power), and the paint is in very good condition and still has plenty of shine to steal attention at your local Cars & Coffee! Here is a quick rundown of the car: Dinan tune Dinan springs Blisten suspension Billy Boat Exhaust 17" BBS RK wheels 225/45ZR17 PZero Nero tires (~5k miles) lots of maintenance in last year: 4 new brake pads & 7 series rotors distributor cap, wires, spark plugs valve adjustment assortment of hoses replaced newly rebuilt short shifter Programa SI board new battery |

1972 BMW 1602e EV concept looks glorious
Wed, Mar 25 2015Pretty sweet. That's a first impression of one cherry-looking experimental electric vehicle from BMW from way back in the day. Or at least from someone who for a time drove a '74 2002. A gas-powered one, that is. BMW built two experimental vehicles in 1972 based off of the old 1600 (which evolved into the 2002) model and even showed them off during the Munich Olympic Games of that year. BMW strung together a dozen typical car batteries and linked them to an electric motor made by Bosch. The result was a battery pack that weighed about 770 pounds (A quick modern-day comparison: a Nissan Leaf battery pack weighs about 480 pounds). Bimmer recently posted a two-and-a-half minute video about the project. The clip doesn't say how far those cars could go on a single charge, but did use to the vehicles to "escort" long-distance running competitions at the Munich Games, since there was no exhaust to choke those athletes out. The timing is fortuitous, of course, as the German automaker looks to continue to gain more goodwill from the green-car set through its new "i" sub-brand of plug-in vehicles, including the i3 electric vehicle and the i8 plug-in hybrid. BMW, Sixt carsharing making money most places
Wed, Aug 20 2014The DriveNow carsharing service, which is a partnership between BMW and Sixt, is growing quite rapidly. "We've been surprised about the explosion of new subscriptions, which has helped boost revenue," says Sixt CEO Erich Sixt. The number of DriveNow users has increased from 215,000 at the end of last year to 300,000 today. Sixt says that DriveNow has been profitable in cities in which it has been established for over a year. Perhaps encouraged by its unexpected success, DriveNow is set to expand even further. The service is currently available in five German cities, as well as in San Francisco, California, and the involved parties are considering a five-year plan to expand to 25 more cities in Europe and the US. Still, Sixt expects DriveNow to report a "small-to-medium, single-digit" loss for this year, according to Sixt CFO Julian zu Putlitz. It's no big deal, just the result of startup costs in new areas. Sixt, which is Germany's largest car rental company, also reported that its own second-quarter income rose 12 percent to $37.7 million, while sales rose 7.6 percent to $585.78 million. DriveNow uses a membership and pay-per-minute model that allows customers to rent BMW and Mini vehicles as they need them. The service also acts as a way to let potential customers try out the vehicles and familiarize themselves with the brands before they buy cars of their own at some point. Depending on the location, DriveNow's fleet includes the BMW 1 Series, ActiveE and X1, as well as several Mini vehicles like the Cooper, Clubman and Countryman.
