Small half-dime sized ding on hood (only noticeable when looking for it at certain angles), and faint scratch on rear pass-side bumper, covers with wax. Interior is in excellent shape and the rear seat is virtually unused. A few small rock chips here and there on front bumper. Otherwise perfect. Mechanically flawless."

After a year of wonderful ownership, I've decided to part with my Black Sapphire Metallic BMW M5.  This car is incredible, and the only reason I'm selling it is because I work from home and rarely drive the car.  I don't use it for short local trips and it primarily gets its milage on days I drive to the office (100 mile trip), go to a car show, or when I take it out just to drive and enjoy the experience.  I am very particular with all my cars and this one is meticulously maintained (with records) and is never driven until it has had a chance to warm up.

I welcome any and all inquiries about the car, will consider all reasonable offers, and present the car for viewing and pre-purchase inspections.  Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions or to schedule a viewing/PPI.  The car is located with me in central NJ, very convenient via most highways in the region.

The car is a rare 6 speed manual example, with only a handful up for sale around the country.  For those who've done their homework you already know that the manual transmission is the way to go on these cars for two reasons.  1) Where else will you find a manual transmission + a V10 engine in a 4 door sedan?  2) The SMG auto-manual transmissions are notorious for failure and costly repairs.  When picking up a used M5 why bother yourself with the worry of a transmission that will need repair in a matter of time.  The 6 speed manual on these is virtually bullet proof with many owners surpassing 100,000 miles on the original clutch.

Recent Services within last 6,000 miles:
- Oil changes x 2
- Full brake fluid flush
- Transmission fluid change
- M differential fluid change
- Shifter bushings replaced
- Wheel balancing
- Wheel alignment

The car has already had its spark plugs and brake pads replaced as well and does not need another penny until it hits 60,000 miles.  However if you're compulsive like me you'll at least want to do an oil change sooner than that.  Surprisingly maintenance on these cars is not as bad as people make it out to be.  Purchase your OEM fluids from a reputable site like turnermotorsport.com and then any shop can do the work (I only use BMW specialty shops).

The Good:
I have taken care of this car as if I were keeping it forever, both cosmetically & mechanically
I have performed every single service on time and in many cases ahead of schedule; the car needs absolutely nothing
I have had zero mechanical/electrical/anything issues with the car. It is solid as a rock, exceptionally clean, and has just been detailed as well
The upgrades I've performed have truly enhanced the feel of the car and have made it more responsive as well as nimble

The Bad:
Half-dime sized ding on hood; barely noticeable and can easily be repaired with out paintwork
2'' faint scratch on pass-side rear bumper, wax covers it up nicely
Faint stress paint mark on rear bumper near trunk, was there when I purchased the car and has not grown since

Things I HAVE done with this car:
Driven it on long road trips
Stretched its legs on twisty mountain roads
Commuted to and from work
Tested it on a 1/4 strip (rolling start, no launch)

Things I HAVE NOT done with this car:
Crashed it
Drifted it
Taken it to a race track
Done burnouts/donuts in it
Abused it
Dropped the clutch/launched it
Let other drive it
Driven it in the snow

This car makes an excellent daily driver, weekend toy, collectable, or race car - or all of that in one. It gets attention enthusiast and non-enthusiast alike, without being overly flashy or pretentious.

I prefer a buyer who can pick-up locally in NJ, but will allow for shipping anywhere in North America at the buyers expense.  Payment is due in full by cash OR bank check within 7 days of purchase.

Are you the next BMW X5?

Tue, 15 Jan 2013

Who knew that diecast model makers could be such a good source of leaks? Less than a month after a diecast model 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA in China, someone overseas at Diecast Empire or Jadi Modelcraft could get a bath in boiling oil for leaking uncamouflaged images of the next-generation BMW X5.
Naturally, that assumes that this image from a brochure from a Jadi brochure is indeed the F15 BMW X5 - it was posted to Diecast Empire's Facebook page. In its favor, the lines all add up if we compare it to the most revealing spy shots we have of the coming crossover - the headlight corners, the metal trim separating the kidney grille from the opening just above the license plate, the cut of the swage line, and the fact that the model picture reveals all of the most important character pieces that BMW has kept covered.
There's something written on the door of the model image that isn't in the spy shots, but that could be an xDrive badge. We will see the genuine article soon enough and we'll know for sure. For now, we might have already seen its facsimile in miniature.

The List: The Red BMW - A Retrospective

Mon, 23 Dec 2013

We can't help but use this time of year to look back at the days before and reminisce about friends who are no longer in our lives. For The List, Jessi and Patrick were often joined by a little, red BMW 3 Series that, at times, felt like a third host of the show. Having been bought used for just a thousand bucks, the red BMW proved to be surprisingly durable. Through jumps, dunks and monster trucks, it remained our little trooper 'till the very end, and on the way taught us all how important a faithful four-wheeled companion is to the life's work of completing one's automotive bucket list.
For our last episode of The List in 2013, we give you The Red BMW - A Retrospective.
