Purchased car in late 2007 with 40,000 miles from the second owner who purchased car with only 2,500 miles in 2005. This car was garaged until 2009 when I purchased an E9 coupe and the M3 had to go outside. The second owner, like myself, was an adult enthusiast who installed an Active Autowerkes M3 Signature exhaust System which has a very rich tone that is a welcome sound in the background while cruising down winding country roads. . Wheels are 19" staggered as all E46 M3's with brand new Nitto's. The deck lid is custom CSL design. Interior is immaculate with only minimal wear on Driver side outboard bolster which any enthusiast knows, the Wrap sides on the M3 seat is very prone to wear.. Both seats have full power and all functions operate 100 percent. No smokers or pets. Oil changed regularly and never driven hard or raced. Engine sounds awesome and SMG transmission shifts flawlessly. Paint finish is very glossy and rich in color. Engine compartment has not been detailed but you would never guess by looking under the hood.
I have enclosed pictures showing the undesirable points and will attempt to explain them faithfully. In the center of the front bumper is a crinkle from a parking bollard that is not noticeable unless you are inspecting the bumper for defects* behind the drivers door you will find a dimple from another vehicles door opening carelessly in a parking lot * there is a very light depression in the center of the roof just behind the sunroof which defies capture in a photograph despite repeated attempts to do so* there is key scratch in the passenger side from some human debris ne'er-do-well (these types can be found in abundance on most any college campus). The intentional scratch has gone through the clear-coat but because it is located just over a panel radius, it is very hard to see. In 2008, an F-150 truck stopped short on me and I collided at approximately 12 MPH. The bumper on the truck was high enough that the hood was peeled back, the bumper and right QP and left light was replaced. There is a photo of the damage just before it was expertly repaired. Note: Airbags were not deployed. In 2012, an indicator for the Driver Airbag set and a bad sensor is the problem; BMW will repair for $800.00 but this could be less expensive if done by your personal mechanic. (until sensor is fixed, the driver airbag may not deploy, KEEP SEATBELT ON just like your dad did in his 1992 Olds) There is a plastic windshield cover (decorative trim that covers the lower part of the windshield) that is cracked due to UV deterioration; most may not care, but I am bothered by these things and the replacement part (pn; 51718232894 is less than $70.00. There are aftermarket Angel-Eyes installed in the Xenon buckets but passenger side ballast went out so I disconnected the drivers side. Bavarian Motorsport will sell the replacement A-E kit ($100.00) but not the replacement ballast by itself. There is clear-coat coming off on trim strips on the roof. These trim strips are easier to replace with new pieces which are then painted "off car" and replaced. 2 required @ 85.00 each. (research BMW parts at www.penskeparts.com) I had an estimate for the body and paintwork for under $2,000.00. The trunk release latch spring is weak and the deck lid must be lifted with one hand as you press the trunk release button on the key with the other. Normally I was always on top of the little issues, but the E9 BMW has gotten all my attention. With a little attention to these gripes, the winner will really be getting an exceptional sports car. The coupe is really put together well, handles as if on rails with no squeaks rattles or vibration. M-Mobility System intact. Tires have less than 1,000 miles. Oil just changed. You will not be disappointed because I make a great effort to disclose those things that the prospective buyer would want to know. I have placed several adds in local venues--I reserve the right to end the auction if the cars sells locally. My wife has been driving the car locally so the mileage may differ from photograph in ad. Please see other BMW's I have loved @ www.bway.smugmug.com GOOD LUCK-SET YOUR ALARM-THERE IS NO RESERVE--HIGH BID WINS!!!

KBB 2013 Brand Image Awards has some obvious and oddball winners
Sat, 30 Mar 2013The sixth edition of the Kelley Blue Book Brand Image Awards have crowned a wide range of winners - in a couple of cases the recipient of the laurels might say more about KBB users than they do about the actual winner. Compiled from the responses of more than 12,000 shoppers on KBB.com over the past year, there are 13 categories broken into non-luxury, luxury and truck segments "representing the combined wisdom of the American car-buying public."
The award categories have been revamped this year, with some dropping off, some new ones appearing and at least one other given a new term. What isn't surprising is that Honda won Most Trusted Brand for the second year running, Best Value Brand for the third year in a row and took Best Overall Brand, which wasn't on last year's list of awards.
On our own shores, in the non-luxury categories Chrysler got Most Refined Brand and Buick took Best Value Luxury Brand. Neither one of those marques won anything in last year's Brand Image Awards, while Cadillac, which won Best Interior Design Brand and Best Comfort Brand last year - those awards disappeared this year - went home without a single accolade.
BMW X4 reclaims dash of utility with Clemson student project [w/videos]
Wed, 06 Aug 2014BMW seems willing to exploit every automotive niche it can find with creations like the four-door, 'crossover coupe' X4 and X6. Of course, these designs come with a compromise. That svelte fastback means that they just can't haul as much cargo as a more traditional, boxier hatchback. Fortunately, students at Clemson University's International Center for Automotive Research might have a novel solution: the engineering graduate program has turned the crossover into a unique pickup.
Dubbed Deep Orange 4 concept, this functional prototype has an enclosed cargo area with a sliding glass panel that opens up to expose a pickup bed if more room is needed. Think of it as the GMC Envoy XUV of German crossovers. This isn't just an X4 with its roof hacked off, though. The students actually started with an X3 and grafted on this top later in addition to the two barn doors for access to the bed.
To make this project even more impressive, this pickup-crossover could conceivably be produced. The graduate students conducted an in-plant analysis of BMW's manufacturing abilities and went back to the university to create a plan for a low-volume vehicle that could actually be built. "The students working on this phase of the project did an excellent job of keeping costs down while finding optimal integration opportunities," said Rich Morris, vice president of assembly at BMW Manufacturing, in the university's release.
2014 BMW M235i
Tue, 21 Jan 2014We know a number of BMW owners who reside in the Munich brand's core demographic - upper-five- and six-figure professionals who like to keep their automotive brand credentials as highly respected among their peers as their alma maters or the letters after their names. Before heading to Las Vegas to drive the new M235i, we asked four of those owners, "What did you think of the E30 3 Series?" Although phrased differently, every one of them had the same answer: "What's that?"
You can counter that we just happened to query a tiny and ignorant sample size, and it's possible that you're right. Nevertheless, in every case,we were speaking to BMW's core demographic, the increasing legion of buyers who have fostered another year of record growth and are responsible for BMW retaining its global luxury title for nine straight years. Question that, and we'll refer you to BMW's marketing department, its several hundred PowerPoint slides and several thousand pages of research that prove the point.
That second-generation E30 3 Series built a name, a brand and an entire segment by defining BMW-ness as superlative driving dynamics meets luxury - shortened to the phrase, "The Ultimate Driving Machine." Thirty years later, just being a part of BMW-ness and luxury is enough for the majority of buyers. The superlative handling, that's optional, and 150 hairy guys meet every Tuesday to keep the old religion going, light torches, sing dirges to the siren long gone and bang on their keyboards about the apostasies of modern buyers.
