Bmw E30 M-technic S14 Convertible E30 M3 Conversion White Package on 2040-cars
Suwanee, Georgia, United States
This is one of my pride and joys since 1997 when I brought it. This is a rare 1992 e30 325ic M-Technic white package 5 spd car. I am the 3rd owner. Car has never seen snow or salt, always been a California and then Georgia car. NO rust at all. I brought the car from the BMW dealer in 1997 ( I still have the sale flyer) and have been the owner since. In 2008, I converted the car to full E30 M3 spec. It has a S14-4 cylinder engine, S14 5 spd transmission, M3 drive shaft and guibo, M3 shifter, M3 brake system, M3 5 bolt hubs and wheel bearings, e30 M3 struts/Bilstein sport shocks/H&R springs. The S14 has been converted to MAF metering from Split Second, It dramatically made much more torque and more h.p. So why did I replace the M20 6 cylinder engine with a S14 4 cylinder engine: because this is a E30, my other BMW is a 1991 e30 M3 coupe so this made a great companion to that car, and I had all this spare e30 M3 parts to put into this car. So I made this a full e30 M3 spec except for the body. Why didn’t I do a M3 body kit: because I didn’t want to make a e30 M3 cabrio replica exactly like the factory. I have been into E30 M3 since 1991 so I am VERY familiar with E30s and E30 M3s. If you ask around the E30 m3 community, most people know who I am. By starting with the white package M-Technic car, this is also a rare find. The interior was redone in OEM BMW ///M cloth- very rare and expensive as I had to source this fabric from BMW Germany. The steering wheel is very rare from a BMW Z1. You will never find another e30 with this steering wheel. The cluster is from e30 M3 except for the speedometer which is still 325i. Radio is a CD43 in dash CD player from a Z3. There are so many upgrades I have done to this car, some small, some big, some underneath the car, some on the exterior. See all the pictures at my web site. Little details like M-Technic door sills, M-technic badges, M3 EVO 3 hood seals. Samco silicone coolant hoses, real BMW accessory-center console armrest/cup holder, E30 wind deflector, under chassis X stiffener brace..….. The bad stuff: The electric top is now manual as the main rod is bent- I do have a new rod that will go with the car. The top itself is in decent shape, no holes on the fabric- I do clean and treat it every 6 months with special top cleaner and spray. The rear plastic window does have 2 cracks but it is pretty clear as I use plastic polish to keep it clear every year. I am including a brand new top with rear window with the sale of the car. During the previous owner, the left quarter panel has been replaced with factory BMW panel. Paint and fit is perfectly matched with the rest of the car. The car has some scratches here and there. See the pictures on the link below. The BBS RS wheels have all been restored by Metro wheels. ALL 6 wheels were taken apart and each piece polished or painted and re-assembled. All 6 wheels have Khumo tires 225-45-16 tires in decent shape. 2 of the 6 wheels did hit a curb so it has curb rash on the outer rim. I am also including a 7th BBS RS wheel that is un-restored. So you will have 7 BBS RS wheels!!! The gas gauge is not accurate, engine oil leak @ chain tensioner, missing left front brake cooling duct

BMW Motorad reveals Concept Stunt G 310 in Brazil
Wed, Oct 7 2015BMW has been on a bit of a concept motorcycle bent lately, and each has taken a decidedly different approach from one another. The Motorad division did the Path 22 scrambler concept in June, the Concept 101 custom bagger in May, the Concept Roadster last year, and the Concept 90 retro racer the year before. Now it's at it again with the Concept Stunt G 310. As you might have guessed, the G 310 is a stunt bike. Its compact form is built around a single-cylinder engine canted rearwards with a rotated cylinder head to help optimize the weight balance. The intake was moved forward and the exhaust towards the rear, mounted under the seat, to enable the rider's freedom of movement. It has long travel in the suspension, but still rides on a short wheelbase – perfect for impressing the crowds. To that end, it was designed with collaboration from four-time stunt riding champion Chris Pfeiffer. It's also got a lockable throttle so the rider can take his hands off the controls (not advisable for the rest of us). The beefed-up secondary rear brake can be actuated by a squeeze of the finger. Axle pegs allow for additional foot-placement options, red crash bars protect the mechanical elements, and a specially designed "stunt tail" is milled from solid aluminum and provides an additional foot-hold. The shape is adorned with an eye-catching neon livery designed to give the impression of movement, even when it's sitting still. The bike will be unveiled in Sao Paulo, Brazil, at South America's preeminent motorcycle show. BMW Concept Stunt G 310 – Street. Style. Stunt. 06.10.2015 Munich/Sao Paulo. With the world premiere of the BMW Concept Stunt G 310 at South America's largest motorcycle show, BMW Motorrad is presenting a completely new side: the uncompromising interpretation of an aggressive and agile stunt bike based on a single cylinder study. Thanks to his experience as a four-times World and European stunt riding champion, Chris Pfeiffer, contributed to the realisation of the BMW Concept Stunt 310. "Stunt riding is a demanding and multi-faceted sport. Ideally you need a compact, agile bike which is also stable and robust at the same time. You have to achieve the ideal balance between aggressiveness and control", explains Chris Pfeiffer. Compact proportions, highest-level agility.
Researchers halfway to cutting carbon fiber costs by 90%
Wed, 15 Oct 2014Carbon fiber has been utilized for decades to build racecars, as a means to cut weight while maintaining strength. But until recently, the space-age material has been largely absent from the street on anything but supercars because of the expense to use it. Recently, BMW signaled a major shift in that trend when it starting using carbon fiber reinforced plastic panels on the i3 and i8. This relatively small scale start might be just the beginning; the German company believes that a breakthrough to inexpensively manufacture the lightweight stuff is just on the horizon.
MAI Carbon Cluster Management GmbH counts BMW, Audi, Airbus, the German government and many other organizations as supporters, and it's researching how to make carbon fiber cheaper to produce, according to Automotive News Europe. The company thinks it can reduce costs by 90 percent in the near future. "We've certainly reached a halfway point on our cost-cutting target for suitable carbon-fiber parts," said project head Klaus Drechsler to Automotive News Europe.
Unfortunately, it isn't entirely clear just what MAI Carbon is doing to make such a huge leap possible. However, a recent post on the company's website talks about a new form a carbon fiber using a thermoplastic matrix that could be cured in less than three minutes. That's compared to about 90 minutes in the traditional process with an autoclave.
BMW, Ferrari, VW cars use tungsten mined by terrorists
Thu, 08 Aug 2013Bloomberg Markets is reporting that BMW, Volkswagen and Ferrari have been using tungsten ore sourced from Columbia's FARC rebel terrorists. The extensive story focuses on Columbia's illegal mining trade and calls into question the provenance of the rare ore that is used not only in crankshaft parts production, but is also found in the world's computing and telecommunications industry for use in screens.
The ore is mined by the FARC (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia, or Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia - People's Army), and exported to Pennsylvania, where it is refined. The refined ore is then sent over to Austria, where a company called Plansee turns it into a finished product. Now, it's important to note that we aren't talking about the world's supply of tungsten here. In 2012, Plansee's American refinery purchased 93.2 metric tons of tungsten, valued at $1.8 million. That's peanuts, with the entire Colombian tungsten mining industry producing just one percent of the world's supplies.
That doesn't make indirectly supporting FARC any more acceptable, though. BMW, VW and Ferrari are all committed to not accepting mineral supplies from the Democratic Republic of Congo, which is also in the grips of a guerrilla insurrection funded, in part, by illegal mining. The same commitment would figure to extend to Colombian mining, but as BMW points out, it's difficult for a multi-national manufacturer to know where every item in its supply chain comes from. A company spokesperson says as much, telling Bloomberg, "These few grams out of the billions of tons of raw materials passing through the BMW supply chain are of no practical relevance."
