No BMW M2 Convertible in the cards
Thu, Feb 25 2016Despite BMW's history of M-ing all the things, enthusiasts pining for a droptop version of the recently released M2 are about to get some bad news. In a recent interview with CarAdvice, M2 chief engineer Frank Isenberg confirmed, "There will not be an M2 Convertible." "We need to keep it as purist as we did with the 1 Series M Coupe," Isenberg told CarAdvice. "We've got such a nice M235i Convertible. And convertibles are not for racetracks, they're for cruising." Indeed, while the M2 might not be as hardcore as the 1M Coupe that came before it, it's pretty darn great, as we found out in our first drive earlier this month. BMW sees its latest two-door M as a special car, and one that will not spawn additional variants. That sort of makes sense, but remember, this is the same company that has no problem doing a heavy, folding hardtop version of its M4, and an ultra-grand-touring M6 Convertible. Related Video:
BMW and Mini shuffle NA management, McDowell to retire
Wed, 04 Dec 2013BMW and Mini recently shuffled top personnel in their design departments, and now BMW of North America will reorganize its management to improve customer relations. Peter Miles (pictured), currently the executive vice president of operations, will take a newly created position, vice president of sales channel development and customer relations, while Jim McDowell, vice president of Mini of the Americas, will retire.
Chris Koenders, president of BMW Group Netherlands, will move take Miles' spot as executive vice president of operations. David Duncan, western region vice president, will take McDowell's job as vice president of Mini of the Americas. Finishing off the management switcharoo is Peter Witt, who will move from his current position as Managing Director of BMW Sweden to take Duncan's job as western region vice president.
"We are intensifying our customer-driven focus and these changes will influence the entire organization to continue improving all phases of the customer journey from prospect to purchase and throughout the ownership cycle," says Ludwig Willisch, president and CEO of BMW NA. BMW hires Ferrari chief engineer Fedeli
Wed, 08 Oct 2014There's going to be a little bit more Prancing Horse in some future BMWs because the Bavarian brand is hiring Ferrari chief engineer Roberto Fedeli to join the company in November. Fedeli's new position is still somewhat of a mystery though, and he reportedly might be lending his talents to the high performance M division or possibly even Rolls-Royce. When asked by Automotive News Europe, BMW said that it "currently can't say what his role will be."
Regardless of his new job, Fedeli was a big get for BMW because of his strong résumé. He has been with Ferrari since 1988 and led the engineering for the famous Italian automaker's vehicles since 2007. Fedeli tendered his resignation in September at around the same time that chairman Luca di Montezemolo announced his decision to leave the company. However, Ferrari told ANE that there was no connection between the two events.
