Body:
1997 M3 Sedan. Alpine white exterior with Black leather interior. 143,XXX chassis miles.

Engine:
The previous owner spared no expense for this car. It previously had a VAC built S52 with an AA twin screw super charger coupled with a built auto trans.

This was removed and replaced with an S54B32 from a 2004 M3 with 42,000 miles. We pulled the VIN number to confirm factory maintenance. The rod bearing recall was performed at 21,000 miles along with new fuel injectors. It was also from an SMG car so there is no chance for a misshift. Perfect candidate for our swap.

S54B32-- 3.2liter inline 6 cylinder motor. Dual vanos. Dual oil pick up. Oil cooler. 6 individual throttle bodies. 8,000 rpm redline on factory tune. 333hp factory.

This engine is running off the factory MSS54 ECU. The car is equipped with an e46 electronic gas pedal for precise petal modulation. The car had EWS flashed out during the tune to make it comparable with the e36 chassis. Secondary O2s and the secondary airpump injection system were also flashed out.

When the engine was out, the oil filter housing gasket was replaced as preventative maintenance. The O-rings for the oil cooler lines were also replaced. The car is using the 335i oil cooler mounted to the bottom of the radiator.

E46 remote coolant expansion tank and mounting bracket. Self bleeding, a huge plus if you've ever worked on a typical e36 cooling system.

The S54 has CSL replica headers, professionally touched up with a tig welder by KG Made in Marietta. These headers are beautiful!

All fluids are brand new including Red Line synthetic 10w-60 motor oil, Genuine BMW blue coolant, and power steering fluid.

All belts are new.

The engine currently has an 8,300 rpm redline.

The engine runs on 5bar of fuel pressure utilizing an e46 fuel filter and pressure regulator system.

Currently no cruise control or windshield washer jets (can retrofit).

Exhaust:

Custom CSL replica headers (professionally touched up by KG Made), custom midsection with X-pipe (by Performance Muffler of Norcross), all mated to a like new Active Autoworks cat back exhaust. Warning: the exhaust currently does not have catalytic converters or resonators. It is very quiet and drives very nice but please make sure you obey all traffic laws in your area. Contact me to discuss in more detail. Thanks.

Transmission:

Originally an automatic, converted to a 5 speed during the S54 conversion.

55,000 mile ZF trans from a 98 M3.
Brand new Sachs OE genuine BMW clutch kit (pressure plate, clutch disc, and throw out bearing)
Brand new plastic pivot pin and spring clip.
Brand new shifter selector shaft seal and shifter selector bushing.
Delrin front shifter carrier bushing.
B&M short shifter with new M-shift knob.
Brand new rear carrier bushing for the body.
Guibo/flex disc in great condition.
Transmission mounts in great condition.
3.91 rear end. (Will sell with 3.23)

Suspension:
Brand new AST 4100 coilover suspension. 525/650r spring rates. Height and rebound dampening adjustable. AST camber plates up front. AST ball bearing  rear shock mounts with reinforcement rings.

Turner Motorsports adjustable rear control arms.

Power flex rear trailing arm bushings.

(Note: Can sell the car on Bilstein Sport shock and struts front and rear)

Wheels:

ARC-8 Hyper Silver 17x9 all around with 255/40/17 Bridgestone tires.

(Note: Can sell the car with factory staggard M-Contour wheels with 245/40/17 rear tires and 225/45/17 up front)

Brakes:
Factory BMW rotors and pads with ~50% life remaining.
Stainless steel brake lines.
ABS functions properly and stops very straight with no issues.

Interior:

Black interior. The headliner is still intact and is not saggy. The door panels are also intact and not bubbling or delaminating. Even the glove box does not have the typical e36 sag. The interior is very clean. No mysterious odors and smells like a BMW should.

All the interior lights work as they should.

Windows function as should, and the one touch function works as it should.

Side view mirrors function properly.

Exterior:

European ellipsoid projector headlights with 4300k hid bulbs.

Clear front, side and rear Euro turn signals assemblies.

Fog lights work as they should.

All tail light, turn signals, brake lights, and license plate lights work as they should.

Rust free body. Very straight and clean. Minimal to no door dings. No major dents or dings. Front bumper does need a respray. Can address before the sale. Fenders have minor chipping near the tires due to being lowered on the AST 4100s.

Motorsports X-brace for chassis reinforcement and oil pan protection.

Motion Motorsports aluminum under paneling for proper airflow and cooling. Most durable under paneling on the market. Far surpasses that of OE.

No tint on the windows.

No cracks or pits in the windshield.

Sunroof motor works as it should.

Moldings and trim are clean and tight to the body like they should be.

BMW discussing supercar collaboration with McLaren

Mon, Sep 21 2015

BMW is reportedly considering a new halo supercar. But rather than go it alone, word has it that the Bavarian automaker is discussing a potential partnership with McLaren to make the idea a reality. This according to Britain's Car magazine, which suggests that negotiations are well underway. The proposal would see the BMW supercar based on the same architecture that will to underpin Woking's P16 project that's set to replace current 650S. Rather than use the 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 that McLaren developed together with Ricardo, the Bimmer version would use Munich's own engine: a 4.0-liter V8 with quad turbochargers – two conventional spools and two more electrically driven chargers. Their combined effect would net an expected 750 horsepower. Further differentiations on McLaren's carbon monocoque architecture for use in the BMW would include custom bodywork, aerodynamics, and interior fitments to include a unique instrument panel. Production, however, would be handled at the McLaren Production Centre in Woking, to the tune of several hundred units per year. The project would take the place of several aborted programs undertaken internally at BMW. One called for an entirely unique supercar developed in-house, referred to internally as the M100. When that project was aborted so that BMW could concentrate on the i sub-brand, BMW's own skunkworks shifted its focus to developing a more performance-focused version of the i8, known by some as the i8 CSi. When that project was canned as well, discussions with McLaren commenced. It wouldn't be the first time BMW would outsource development of its own supercar, or even the first time BMW would collaborate with McLaren on such a project. Initial development work on the original M1 in the 1970s was undertaken by Lamborghini before being taken in-house. And, of course, BMW provided the engine for the legendary McLaren F1. Meanwhile McLaren performed a similar function for Mercedes-Benz with the SLR, demonstrating Woking's experience in building flagship supercars for German automakers. This latest project could suffer the same fate as the M100 and i8 CSi programs. But if it is approved, it could yield both coupe and convertible versions, with the first slated to surface at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2017 and reach dealerships in 2019.

MotorWeek fondly remembers the 2000 BMW M5

Fri, May 15 2015

The Retro Review series from MotorWeek tends to reminisce about vehicles at are at least 20 years old and often from even further back. However, the show's latest recollection shines the spotlight on a fondly remembered sports sedan that's also a modern classic: the 2000 BMW M5. Years before BMW committed to downsized engines with turbocharging and shortly prior to the introduction of iDrive, the E39 M5 showed the Bavarian brand's engineering talents at their very best. By modern standards, the sedan's powertrain is almost antiquated. Up front, there's a big, naturally aspirated V8 that sends power to the rear wheels, and the only choice of transmission is a six-speed manual. But as MotorWeek explains, the tuning of the whole vehicle comes out to near perfection. This is a model that's definitely worth remembering.

The 2016 BMW M2 is a steroid-addled M235i [UPDATE]

Wed, Oct 14 2015

UPDATE: As it turns out, BMW mixed up the weight specs in the official press materials. We spoke to BMW for confirmation, and the manual M2 weighs 3,450 pounds, the DCT car weighs 3,505. We've updated the text to reflect this. If you're looking for a featherweight M235i, you'll be disappointed. The extra power and goodies are offset by negligible weight savings. When we first got behind the wheel of the M235i early last year, BMW was quick to point out the spiritual link between the small quasi-M car and its ancestors, the 2002 Turbo and the E30 M3, but we couldn't help but think fondly of the more potent 1M Coupe. And while the M235i got a lot of things right, its weight and price took some of the shine off it. But more importantly, the intangibles that those older BMWs nailed was somewhat lacking in the M235i – while fun, it was somewhat distant, unlike the visceral 1M. Until we drive the 2016 BMW M2, those intangibles will remain intangible. But on paper, the M2 looks to be a super-M235i, buffed up with M goodies like an active rear differential and lightened suspension components. But if you're looking for a featherweight M235i, you'll be disappointed. The extra power and goodies are offset by negligible weight savings. With the manual it weighs 3,450 pounds, an 85-pound reduction. With the DCT, it's a wash at 3,505 pounds. At least the M2 looks like a proper M car. The side bodywork swells 2.1 inches up front and 3.1 inches in the rear to accommodate wide 19-inch forged wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. The front end takes the M235i theme (itself an adrenaline-injected version of lesser 2 Series cars) and adds steroidal menace, with the expected larger intakes to feed the extra engine radiator. Out back, there's a diffuser in the rear tray that the M235i lacks, and the scallops that incorporate the taillights plainly telegraph the extra rear width. It's the M4's handsome younger sibling. Like the M235i to which its clearly related, the heart of the M2 is a 3.0-liter inline-six that inhales through a TwinScroll exhaust manifold-integrated turbocharger. High-precision direct injection, Double-VANOS, and Valvetronic are all present and accounted for, with some M goodies like pistons and crank bearings trickling down from the M3 and M4. The result is 365 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 343 pound-feet of torque available from as low as 1,400 rpm.
