I'm selling my 1996 M3, Cosmos Black with black leather and 155,000 miles with 5 speed manual. This is a luxury package car which means sport seats, some wood and chrome trim, and non-twisty side skirts. I am the second owner, having bought this car Certified Pre-Owned back in January 1999; I've owned this car for over 14 years and have maintained it very well.
The car is mechanically in excellent condition. Everything works like it should with the single exception of the sunroof tilt feature; that still tilts, but the inside panel isn't moving with it so it won't vent; this started after I replaced the headliner and I assume I forgot to hook something up. It's probably an easy fix but I haven't found the time to fix it.
Mods are very limited: Koni SA shocks, Powerflex control arm bushings front and rear, VDO Gauges (Oil Pressure, Oil Temperature, Volts), HID Low Beams in glass lenses (can't remember which brand - been too long), keyless entry, Euro wiper control module (sets intermittent wiper interval), BSW Speakers front and rear (Stage 2), OMP aluminum pedal covers, and I modified the stock radio to accept an iPod, etc. via an auxiliary cable that comes out of the center console.
The car does have a 6 CD changer, but I removed it from the trunk to make more room. It will be included in the sale.
The interior including the leather seats are in above average condition. There is very little bolster wear and no rips or tears. I have religiously treated the leather since I have owned the car. There is a worn spot on the steering wheel that was there when I bought the car and the wood on the center console is cracked in two spots. On the exterior, there are what I would call normal paint chips and scratches, and several small parking lot dings. There is a crease on the passenger front fender where I hit a deer last year.
Recent mechanical work: I replaced the clutch at 135,000 miles, and the starter and rear shock mounts at 150,000 miles. I have always run Mobil 1 in the engine. It burns about a quart of oil every 1,000 miles which BMW calls normal. I have all the maintenance records that I have kept in a book and most of the receipts. All preventative maintenance is up to date.
Tires: The rears are nearly new Continental Extreme Contact DWS and have plenty of tread left. The fronts are Dunlop SP Sport Signatures.

BMW shows off 435i Coupe with M Performance parts
Sat, 20 Jul 2013Greetings from the famous Circuito do Estoril racetrack in Portugal. We're here to put the 2014 BMW 4 Series coupe through its paces, and we'll have the chance to sample the updated 2014 BMW M5 with its new Competition Pack, as well. But before going out for some hot laps, we took a few minutes to check out this 435i Coupe that's been fitted with a full suite of goodies from the BMW M Performance parts catalog.
Starting with the exterior, carbon fiber bits are the most noticeable additions, with the lightweight material added in the form of a massive front splitter, mirror caps and a rear spoiler. Other visual changes include lightweight 20-inch wheels, a blacked-out grille, and unique M Performance side stripes. No, that's not a shadow you see under the 435i's strong side character line - that's a stripe. Yes, we're serious.
Inside (we couldn't get photos of the interior, sorry!), BMW has added its sport steering wheel with race display, unique M floormats, steel pedals, and a whole mess of carbon fiber and Alcantara trim.
Five reasons to love, or hate, the culture of German cars
Thu, Mar 5 2015A few months back, we took a 500-foot view of the culture of American cars, dissecting prides and prejudices on our way to the conclusion that automotive allegiances can be simultaneously embraced and derided. We had so much fun with the narrative that we decided to do it again, this time taking a look at Germany and its world-renowned lineup of automakers, including the likes of Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and Volkswagen, among others. Join us below as we discuss the points and counterpoints that make or have made the German auto industry what it is today. And remember, Germany did pretty much invent the automobile, after all... The V12 Engine If America is known for the proliferation of the V8 engine, an argument could be made that Germany owns the V12. Yes, of course, other companies have created V12 engines – Ferrari, Jaguar and Lamborghini immediately come to mind – but the big 12-cylinder powerplants from BMW and Mercedes-Benz, in particular, have proven to be some of the most effortless, luxurious and downright over-built engines the world has ever seen. These days, having 12 cylinders is more a case of wretched excess than ever before, and yet, you can still stroll into your local BMW or Mercedes dealership and get a brand-new 760i, S600 or even an over-the-top G65 AMG, efficiency be damned. Best of all, since the majority of these German powerhouses depreciate as fast as an anchor sinks, nearly any auto enthusiast who dreams of a dozen cylinders can satisfy their carnal desires. Current Star: 2016 Mercedes-Maybach S600 View 28 Photos Diesel Engines Remember how we talked about those glorious V12 engines? Well, you can even get one from Audi that runs on diesel. If your compression-ignition fantasies err more on the side of fuel savings, that's no problem, either. Audi, BMW, Mercedes and Volkswagen have got you covered, with engines starting as small as 800 cubic centimeters (Smart Fortwo). If you want something a little more practical, it's hard to argue with a VW Golf TDI, which will provide plenty of space for you and three of your best friends, plus a fair bit of luggage, all while returning 50-ish miles per gallon. For the purposes of this discussion, we'd rather focus on the asinine levels of torque provided by Germany's high-end diesel engines than the lower-end fuel sippers.
Nissan and BMW want the UK to stay in the EU
Wed, Mar 9 2016Nissan and BMW are saying that the Brexit shouldn't become reality. It's a mixture of hope and threat because their planned investments in the UK risk to be damaged by the referendum's result. While those brands are still saying that every decision from the UK's people will be respected, you can sense a fear that every plan is going to be messed up. The problem is simple according to Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn: "For us, a position of stability is more positive than a collection of unknowns. It makes the most sense for jobs, trade and costs." For sure Nissan is not going to shut its plant in northeast England if the country exits the Union, but this could change plans for the future, as the so-called Brexit could cause an increase on costs and above all on competition. Nissan employs 8,000 people in the UK across its manufacturing, engineering, and design facilities, and a further 32,000 indirectly through dealerships and its supply chain. All these people produce almost half a million cars and 80 percent of those are exported, so just imagine how taxes could affect prices and sales. If the EU's borders get smaller, Nissan will face some problems with customs duties the foreign products struggle with, as other Japanese automakers have so far, while importing their cars into the Union. Nissan is not the only maker interested in the outcome of the referendum to be held June 23; BMW is of the same mood, hoping Brexit won't become reality. The Germans already warn Mini and Rolls-Royce employees that the exit of UK from the Union could cause problems with increasing costs and higher prices due to tariff barriers. BMW CEO Harald Krueger at the Geneva auto show said "a UK vote to exit the European Union would cloud the future of the automaker's UK brands, which include Mini, along with Rolls-Royce". What's happening in this case is not only an English issue. In fact, although every decision taken by the UK's people must be respected, the automakers are right when saying they hope it is not going to happen, as you hope no one changes the cards during the game.
