Story behind the car:

I have owned this car since December 23 2001.  I have owned several cars while owning this car as well, it has always been a low mileage second vehicle for me.  It has been garaged and only driven once per month (at most) since 2008 while I attended college in Denver.  I need to buy a new car to accommodate a family, and I rarely drive the car even now after college.  I hope to find an owner who will take good care of it and really enjoy the car as I have.

Pertinent information any buyer would want to know:

Gebhardt BMW in Boulder entered an odometer reading of 40,000 miles when I took the cylinder head in to have the cams removed (requires BMW special tool) for the valve job at 109,000 miles.  I have no idea why they entered this value.  Simply calling them several years later when I found out it was on Carfax did not fix the problem.

Vehicle was repainted in 2002 due to spinning out on ice and going through a chain link fence.  Scratches to paint and windshield were only damage.  Insurance claim paid for repair at a local body shop.

Right fender replaced and repainted due to a truck backing into me in the Target parking lot.

Wearing or worn items:

Driver door glass has a chip on the edge

Driver seat slightly discolored/faded by left side bolster

Left front strut leaking, all others fine

Trip computer display has some inoperative pixels

Oil leak at oil dipstick tube where it meets oilpan

Seepage from valve cover gasket

Between the two leaks the car uses 1/2 quart every oil change (3000 miles)

Normal wear and tear

Buyer responsible for shipping and/or pickup.

2018 BMW 3 Series spied looking cold as ice

Tue, Jan 19 2016

The 3 Series is without question the single most important model line for BMW. So, despite the fact that it was just refreshed for 2016 with updates that sharpened its steering and suspension, you can bet that work is well underway on the next edition. These fresh spy shots show just how far into the development process BMW has gotten as engineers test the model in the harsh conditions of the arctic. Camouflage hides on lot on this 3 Series, but we can still see that the nose appears to take cues from the latest 7 Series. Even through the swirling wrap, you can spot shapely headlights that flow into the long, narrow kidney grille. In profile, the sedan retains the proportions of the current model, with a longish hood and short rear deck. Around back, big, round taillights protrude outward, but these somewhat garish pieces might be development parts that don't reflect the final design. BMW reportedly uses the codename G20 for the next-gen 3 Series and plans to make the new model wider and with a longer wheelbase to create a larger passenger compartment. Even with the dimension stretch, weight could drop thanks to lighter materials. We expect that BMW will continue to offer a vast range of powertrains, and rumors hint the future M3 might use a plug-in hybrid system to boost power and lower emissions. Expect to see the updated 3 Series debut around 2018, according to our spies. Related Video:

The Aficionauto gets his hands on Back To The Future BMW

Thu, Oct 8 2015

When thinking about the cars of Back to the Future, Doc Brown's iconic DeLorean is surely the first one that jumps to mind. However, the latest video from The Aficionauto tracks down a more obscure but still rather cool vehicle from the series. Host Christopher Rutkowski heads to Connecticut for a difficult drive in Griff's screen-used 1976 BMW 633 CSI from the second film in the trilogy. Owner Jeff Chabotte bought the car in thoroughly neglected condition and spent weeks with his father and son bringing the futuristic Bimmer back to life. The slew of scoops and nacelles behind the seats might not be aesthetically beautiful, but they're authentic to the appearance in the film. For authenticity, Chabotte even keeps the busted taillight from Griff hitting it in the movie. As Rutkowski finds during his drive, Griff's BMW poses absolutely no threat of chasing down the DeLorean to 88 miles per hour. There's actually a pretty good reason for that, though. The interesting story involves how the producers procured this gray-market 633 CSI to be in Back to the Future II. Related Video:

BMW and Mini getting GoPro integration

Fri, 13 Jun 2014

The small, high-quality and relatively inexpensive GoPro camera has been revolutionary for Internet video, especially of cars. Imagine how much awesomeness and hilarity we would have missed without them. Finding ways to integrate the cams into performance cars is becoming increasingly popular among automakers, as well. For example, the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette has its Performance Data Recorder, and Volkswagen is giving GoPros to early buyers of the 2015 GTI. BMW Group is going straight to the source for its rendition, though, with a new app that allows drivers to control a GoPro from inside of some BMW and Mini vehicles.
In July, owners with 2012 or later models equipped with BMW Apps or Mini Connected can download the new app. There are a few hurdles to jump over, though. Not only do users need a model with the infotainment system, a WiFi-equipped GoPro camera is also required. The app also must be installed on an iPhone connected to the vehicle.
Once all of those stipulations are met, the app can configure and control the GoPro through iDrive and display a nearly live image on the infotainment system. Menus are simplified on-screen but still allow users to select among six camera modes, aim it and start and stop recording. While filming, it shows recording time, battery life and signal strength. While BMW's approach isn't quite as nicely integrated as the Corvette's solution, it's interesting to see automakers working to make filming easier. Scroll down to read the full announcement.
