2001 M Roadster. Excellent condition, garage kept and only driven in nice weather. Properly maintained with service records. Completely stock except for a replacement head unit to add bluetooth (have OEM head unit). Includes factory boot cover and all tools and manuals.

Minor blemishes for a 13 year old car.  Seats in great condition.  Wheels have no rash, but have some minor brake dust staining.  Tires are in good condition.

Recently replaced Mass Airflow Sensor.  Power top works fine, rear window is clear but original (light scratching).  Top is in good shape as expected from a garage kept car.  All paint is glossy.

Interior trim has light wear from use.  Some of the vinyl on the door cards is lifting but does not affect function.  Bolster on drivers seat is in great shape, no tears or significant wear (light wear).

Almost new factory M floor mats are included.

Does not leak anything, it is parked on an epoxy garage floor and the floor underneath is immaculate.

Everything works as it should except for the auto dimming rear view mirror which stopped working about a year ago.  The knob for the clock is missing, the A/C button has a crack in it but functions fine.  There are light blemishes in the paint in a couple of places from 13 years of use.  No scrapes, paint missing, or rust.  The clear coat is glossy and deep in all areas, and the car receives a detail twice a year.  The finish is in beautiful condition.  All original BMW factory panel stickers are in place.  There is some curb rash on the bottom of the front clip, and light road rash on the front bumper from bugs/etc.  There was a front license plate which I recently removed.  The holes for the plate/bracket exist.  I have the bracket for the buyer.

Please contact me with questions or to set up a pre-purchase inspection BEFORE the auction ends.  My reserve price is very reasonable for an S54 roadster and I will not end the auction early.  This is a nice car but I am moving on to a sedan for my growing family.

Clean California title.

No accident history, nice clean low mileage roadster.

Next BMW X1 moving to smaller, lighter FWD-biased platform

Thu, 20 Feb 2014

BMW's decision to make the upcoming 2-Series Active Tourer front-wheel drive has been polarizing to say the least, but like it or not, that is the direction the company will go in the near future - one rumor put the number as high as 23 front-wheel-drive models for Mini and BMW combined. The next-generation X1 won't send all its power to the front wheels, though, when it launches in early 2016. While it will use the same platform as the Active Tourer, rumors suggest all models will use all-wheel drive - at least at launch.
A "high-ranking," unnamed BMW manager confirmed to AutoWeek that the new model will switch to transversely-mounted three- and four-cylinder engines and the same six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic transmissions as the Active Tourer. The new, smaller platform will allow for more efficient packaging, and despite the smaller size, interior space will remain comparable. All the changes should make it significantly lighter too.
Don't start wailing just yet because BMW surely won't be entirely abandoning sporty models. AutoWeek claims that the Bavarians are working on a higher-output version of the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with power closer to 300 horsepower, about a 72-hp boost. It's also rumored to offer a sporty version of the X1 that may be called the X2.

The importance of Angel Eyes, Ventiports and four round taillights

Sun, 01 Sep 2013

Just the other day, we told you about how Lincoln isn't really a luxury brand, according to Ford's head design man, J Mays. His argument was that Lincoln lacked the unique DNA to differentiate it from the rest of the market, although the arrival of the MKZ is beginning to change that. Now, we have this video from Autoline Detroit, where Jim Hall, an analyst for 2953 Analytics who was quoted in yesterday's Lincoln story, explains the influence of certain styling cues and how they impact the brands.
Using BMW (Angel Eyes) and Buick (Ventiports) as examples for small, simple touches that serve to distinguish the brand's vehicles on the road, Hall then points out how changing trademark styling features, as Chevrolet has done on the new Corvette Stingray, can hurt the vehicle's public perception. Take a look at the full video below for an interesting dive into what these styling features mean to their individual brands.

VW could look outside its own ranks for next CEO

Fri, Feb 27 2015

Companies have two options when coming up with succession plans – hire within, or go outside its ranks. Either choice comes with advantages and disadvantages, to be sure. Hiring within means generally getting someone familiar with the company and its culture and traditions, while going outside is ideal if you're looking to shake things up and bring in fresh ideas. It's unclear which avenue the Volkswagen Group will go down when it comes time to replace its head man, Herr Professor Doctor Doctor Herr Martin Winterkorn, but he isn't ruling out a trip outside of Wolfsburg. Winterkorn has already given the reins of the VW brand to former BMW board member Herbert Diess, while Andreas Renschler, a former Daimler board member, is heading up VW's truck group. Now, Winterkorn has made some statements to a German weekly that indicate the most important thing about his successor isn't necessarily his (or her, though no women appear to be on the short-list) previous employer, Motoring.com.au is reporting, so much as his qualities as a leader and an engineering background. "A Volkswagen boss has to have a big affinity to our products. He needs to be close to customers and he needs to have a relationship with dealers," Winterkorn told Stern. "Like always, it depends on the personality and it also helps if the candidate is an engineer." Motoring throws out a couple of potential candidates from within, including Porsche boss Mathias Muller, Audi Chairman Rupert Stadler and engineering guru Ulrich Hackenberg, in addition to both Diess and Renschler. And while each candidate has a lot of potential, the only thing that's guaranteed right now is what Winterkorn has already said: "The decision about who will succeed me is not an easy one for the supervisory board."
