1999 Bmw Z3 2.3l Convertible - 103,000 Miles, Super Clean, Impeccably Maintained on 2040-cars
Orlando, Florida, United States
Highlights of the vehicle: -ABS module rebuilt by ModuleMasters.com (Has 5-year warranty). -Brand-new rear tires and tons of tread left on the fronts tires. All tires are matching and are Pirelli's PZeroNero. 225/45/17 front and 245/40/17 rear. -Includes 17-inch BMW 330CI wheels. -Approximately 2,000 miles on the last oil change with Mobil 1 0W-40. I only use Mann oil filters. The car uses no oil. -Transmission fluid and differential fluid have been replaced with full synthetic fluids. Amsoil full synthetic ATF is in the transmission. -Brake fluid and clutch fluid have been replaced with BMW DOT 4 brake fluid. -Four brand new Sensen shocks all around. With that, the rear shock mounts were also replaced. -Powerflex bushings on front lower control arms (purple street version). -Seat bushings have been replaced with Whalen Delrin seat bushings (no more rocking seats!). -Both seat belt guides have been replaced with BMW OEM parts. -Both front and rear brake pads were replaced with BMW OEM pads, and the E-brake shoes were done as well. -I also replaced the stock rubber clutch line with a Rogue Engineering stainless clutch line. -The Glove box sag fix has been performed on this car, too. It will not sag! -The power top is completely functional, but the top cylinder was leaking. So, I just installed a manual gas-assist shock to replace it. It is very easy to pull up manually while seated in the car. I will be including the old hydraulic top cylinder as well. -Main serpentine belt replaced. -Trunk struts replaced. Minor flaws: -A couple minor dents on the fenders. Very small but mentioned for accuracy! -A few scratches and chips on the front. Nothing unusual, and far less than what you'd expect on a 100,000-mile, 15-year-old car. This car is very, very clean and well-maintained. Everything is functional with the car and the A/C is ice cold. I will accept a $500 deposit with PayPal, with the balance to be paid in cash or with a cashier's check on a nationally-recognized bank. I have the title in hand. Feel free to ask any questions. The car is also for sale locally and is subject to prior sale--but if you still see it listed here, don't worry; that means it's still available! Please contact me if you have any questions or would like to see the car. I'll respond quickly. The car is located about 4 miles from Orlando International Airport in a residential subdivision. Thank you for your time! |

Finalists for 2014 Green Car of the Year announced
Thu, 17 Oct 2013The list of finalists for the 2014 Green Car of the Year has been announced, and in a genuinely bizarre twist, there's only one hybrid and no electric vehicles among the five contestants, despite the arrival of cars like the BMW i3 and Tesla Model S. Taking the place of the EVs are a pair of diesels, repping a technology that last won a Green Car of the Year award in 2009, when the Audi A3 TDI took the title. No diesel was in the running for last year's award.
Naturally, both of the diesel finalists are fielded by the Germans - with BMW's 328d and Audi's A6 TDI getting the nod. In the case of the 3 Series, BMW installed a 2.0-liter, turbodiesel, capable of delivering 180 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, while returning 45 miles per gallon on the highway. Audi and its larger, 3.0-liter, V6 turbodiesel produce quite a bit more grunt, with 240 hp and 428 lb-ft of grunt, but net a very impressive 38 mpg on the highway in the A6.
Finalists for this year's awards include two diesels, three gas-powered cars and a plug-in hybrid.
Automakers' sound systems: Crank it, don't yank it
Thu, Jun 21 2018Years ago, one of the first things most music lovers did after buying a new vehicle was drive to an aftermarket stereo shop to get the crappy stock components swapped for better gear. And you'd typically get not only better sound but also more bang (and boom) for your buck. But in the past decade or so, the overall quality of OEM audio has dramatically increased, while car electronics became more complex, removing the incentive for most new vehicle owners — and all but the most hardcore DIYer — to start from scratch. In 2010, I did a comparison of the average costs for OEM electronics vs. similar offerings from the aftermarket, and back then automakers' stock premium systems were by far the best bargain — and are probably an even better value now. The premium 14-speaker, 1,200-watt JBL system in the all-new 2019 Toyota Avalon is a prime example of this trend. It's standard on the top two Limited and Touring trims and is available as a $680 audio upgrade on the XLE and XSE. I doubt you can even buy 14 speakers and 1,200 watts of amplification from the aftermarket for 700 bucks, much less have it all installed. And because the system is bundled with Toyota's Entune infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and a surround-view camera, removing the head unit means you would likely lose these features. Another advantage of OEMs and their audio partners is they can design the car around the audio system. In the past, automakers would typically place speakers where convenient for packaging, not for optimal sound reproduction, and audio engineers were forced to compromise. But as with the Avalon's premium JBL audio system, this is starting to change. At a recent behind-the-scenes peek for media into the process of developing the system, Toyota and Harman engineers delved into the minutia of sealing the inner panel of the front doors to create an enclosure for 6x8-inch woofers, making space in the pillars for JBL horn tweeters and extensively measuring the acoustic properties of the interior to tune the sound to the space. I'm met some creative and skilled car stereo installers, but none with a degree in psychoacoustics. The system is also the first to feature Quantum Logic Surround that creates a multi-channel listening experience from two-channel sources. And it includes Harman's Clari-Fi processing that "rebuilds key details lost" in compressed audio formats used by streaming music services and MP3s.
BMW offering glitch fix for i3 with range extender
Thu, Mar 12 2015The BMW i3 has received quite a bit of acclaim since its release, with the electric powertrain grabbing a spot on Ward's 10 Best Engines list and the high-tech machine earning the nod as 2015 Green Car of the Year. However, Consumer Reports uncovered a vexing problem with the range-extended version of the hatchback that has plagued it until a recent software update. While CR was driving the range-extended i3 last year, it discovered that when the internal combustion engine was running during low states of charge, hard acceleration could suddenly cut back with no warning to the driver. This was especially problematic when passing. BMW knew about the issue and promised a software update in the spring. That improvement is now available. BMW spokesperson David Buchko tells Autoblog that the software update adds a percent-of-charge indicator to all models of the i3 to let drivers know just how much juice is left. For the range-extended model, it also provides a warning of possible power reduction when the charge reaches two percent. According to Consumer Reports, the revision lets the car anticipate needing more reserve power based on the topography from the navigation system, as well. For any i3 drivers who want the upgrade, they need to visit a dealer for installation, according to Buchko, but it should be come at no cost to owners. Related Video:
