Selling our '00 BMW Z3. We purchased it 3 years ago from the 2nd owner in Atlanta GA. In February someone hit the rear quarter while I was pulling out of a parallel parking spot. We filed a claim this summer to repair the damage so we could sell it, and the claim totaled the car. We have been using it regularly with this damage since February. It drives great and there's no reason to let it go to a salvage yard, so I bought it back from the insurance company. The toe is out of spec because it needs a new trailing arm, and between the dent and the trailing arm, the insurance company totaled the car. I've attached its alignment specs below.
It had H&R springs with Bilstein shocks installed in early 2009. The excessive camber is due to this. The toe is off due to the trailing arm. It's a GA car so it has no rust. It has never been driven in the snow. It's currently located in Washington DC. The DSC light is on and isn't working. I don't know if it's a speed sensor, the aftermarket wheels, the unit, or what. It doesn't throw any code to a Peake tool, and the ABS works fine. I haven't taken it to a shop to have it diagnosed. No check engine light, no airbag light, etc. When we purchased it, it came with a lot of maintenance records, but several were lost in a recent move.
I do have some records, and luckily I have some of the important ones. The most important being that in January 2008 @ 116k miles, the engine and transmission were replaced. The engine overheated and a used engine with 75k miles on it was put in. A used transmission with 35k miles on it was also installed due to the original sometimes being difficult to get into gear. The clutch was replaced as well as the cooling system. The total for this work was $7,315.03 and included: Engine w/ 75k Miles Transmission with 35k Miles Clutch Water Pump Thermostat Belt Tensioner This was all done 6 years and 30k miles ago. Meaning the engine currently has 115k, the transmission 65k, and the clutch 30k. A new alternator was installed in 2009 and the valve cover gasket and plugs were done at 136k in 12/2010. All 4 tires were replaced at 128k miles in March 2009. Rogue RSMs were installed in 9/2008. The suspension and wheels were also done that same winter. The head gasket and spark plugs were done at 136k miles. These are all the items I have the records for. There are more items that have been done, like the exterior gaskets and a full respray by the original owner, but I do not have the records. I do have some showing the receipts for the new shift knob, brake handle, and various interior trim pieces. Most everything works as it should. The semi-automatic top works with no problems. The A/C blows cold and has every since we bought it. The heat works great. Both power windows and power mirrors work as they should. The ABS works, but the DSC does not. Cruise control works properly. The clutch engages correctly and only has 30k on it. The transmission shifts perfectly and smoothly with no grinds. The suspension is a little bouncy as it is pretty stiff. As far as ownership history goes, the original owner had it until the engine was replaced. It had been keyed and the entire car was repainted at the same time. The second owner, an employee at the Spartanburg, SC BMW plant, purchased it then (2008) and sold it to us in 2011 with 137,400 miles on it. All panels retained the original VIN stickers except for the trunk lid, because it had been hit at some point under the first owner's watch. In the last 3 years, we have put under 9000 miles on it. It has been a city car and all commuting has been done on the DC Metro. It has been used for the occasional city drive and mostly for weekend drives out of town. It received a new battery in 2012 and has not needed anything aside from that. It will be due for an oil change at 150k miles. I've tried to describe it pretty thoroughly, but please email me with any questions. The title is currently clear, but we have received the total loss paperwork from the insurance company and I believe the DMV will issue a salvage title when we or you take it to them. I am not sure, so I went ahead and listed the title as salvage, as I believe that is the title you will receive. I will call the DMV tomorrow and verify this, so for the time being bid knowing there may be a delay while the DMV processes the title. I have the existing title on-hand. Please only bid if you plan to buy, otherwise ask questions. Your deposit is non-refundable. Meaning if you change your mind, you will not be getting it back! Be sure before you bid! Thank you and happy bidding.

2015 BMW i8: Autoblog Technology of the Year finalist
Wed, 19 Nov 2014
Traditionally, nominations for the Autoblog Technology of the Year award are earned for specific developments - a new-think powertrain, a uniquely developed material, a groundbreaking smartphone app, or what have you. In the case of BMW's marvelous i8, it so bristles with novel applied sciences and fresh features that we broke with tradition and nominated the entire car.
We just couldn't help ourselves. Oh, we could've focused on the i8's carbon-fiber monocoque, or its well-resolved plug-in-hybrid powertrain that incorporates a tiny 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine and an electric motor, or its seamless through-the-road all-wheel drive. This is a car that will even have frickin' laser beams for headlights - at least it will for our friends in Europe (and it will in the US, should our legislators ever catch up).
British automakers take costly precautions as Brexit 'no deal' fears grow
Wed, Sep 26 2018LONDON — Carmakers in Britain have triggered some Brexit contingency plans, such as certifying models in the EU, and are working on redrawing production schedules and stockpiling more parts to defend against any loss of unfettered trade after Brexit. The moves are aimed at ensuring plants, which rely on the just-in-time delivery of tens of thousands of components, can keep operating after Brexit on March 29, but will add costs and bureaucracy which could risk their long-term viability. London and Brussels hope to agree a deal by the end of the year to avoid tariffs and trade barriers, but Prime Minister Theresa May's proposals have been criticized by both Brexiteers, who want a cleaner break from the bloc, and the European Union. McLaren Automotive is looking at having its cars certified by both a British and an EU agency to smooth sales. It is also planning to stockpile critical components and change shipments into the EU around Brexit if there is disruption. "I will sell a little more in January and February and plan to pick the volume up in May and give us a leaner period through the change point," Chief Executive Mike Flewitt told Reuters. BMW, which said last week it would move the annual summer-time shutdown of its British Mini plant next year to April, is looking for lorry parking areas and warehousing on both sides of the channel and is seeking to sign contracts to lease certain locations, a spokesman said. It is also investing in IT systems to handle any new red tape as carmakers estimate tens of thousands of new documents could be needed if tariffs and customs are imposed. The German carmaker's Brexit plans are costing millions of pounds, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters. But Honda, which builds 10 percent of Britain's 1.67 million cars at its Swindon plant in southern England, is not in the market to buy "huge amounts of warehousing space," its Europe boss Ian Howells told Reuters. "It's been a very precise calculation or estimation of what components need to be brought in," he said, adding the firm could also alter its output to sell more into the EU at the start of next year. Waste of money? Many British carmakers have also asked suppliers to look into how they would handle delays at ports, executives told Reuters, as thousands of parts, engines and finished models move between Britain and the continent every day.
