2001 Bmw M5 - E39 - Silver Exterior - Black Leather Interior on 2040-cars

I dreamed for years about owning my own Beast - E39 M5. I finally purchased this vehicle and lived the dream for two months as I commuted 15 miles round trip to work. Beginning in June, I started a new assignment with a 100 miles round trip journey. In fear of putting miles on the car and it depreciating rapidly, I bought a commuter and parked it in the garage for sunny days (rare in Washington State). However, as you can imagine it is a tease and cash tied-up when you cannot use a vehicle like this daily. So here it is on the open market for you to enjoy.
This Silver M5, with black leather interior, Alcantara headliner, and wood trim has only 59,400 miles. I purchased this car from its original owner (former politician in Seattle) who leased and then purchased it which demonstrates why the carfax suggests that I am the 3rd owner. When I purchased it, I had very little maintenance records from the prior owner so I immediately had a comprehensive maintenance completed. This maintenance consisted of seal replacements and flushes. Additionally, I had a new clutch installed as it was slipping. So, nearly $5k in costs later, you can see why I didn't fix the gas pressure issue and power mirror. Now, that said, I did "have" to spend $3k on exhaust, H&R springs (installed with an alignment and warranty), mint Michelin tires, and good condition E39 M5 wheels because for some reason the prior owner replaced the original wheels with aftermarket wheels and never put an exhaust on it! My price also includes a spare set of mint tires (Toyos) with the purchase. As a bonus, this car comes with a superb stereo system with rear-deck mounted sub-woofers with a tape deck and 6-disc cd changer, short throw, upgraded pedals, bmw rubber floor mats, M5 carpet floor mats, and a mounted radar detector (sensors installed on front and rear bumpers with the head unit installed in front of the gear shift). I am not desperate to sell my Beast but like I said, it is a tease and it is tied up cash. I hope to sell it to a proud owner who understands and appreciates the thrill of owning the greatest production sedan ever made. |

BMW brings laser headlights and HUD helmet to motorcycles
Tue, Jan 5 2016BMW is complementing its array of cutting-edge tech at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show with the ConnectedRide concept that adapts automotive innovations to the motorcycle world. To highlight the two-wheeled future, the company modified a K1600 GTL with a laser headlight and controls for a helmet-integrated head-up display. The result could make riding safer if these developments ever come to market. Some of BMW's latest models like the i8 and 7 Series can already cut through the darkness with laser headlights, and this K1600 GTL brings that technology to motorcycles. The bright light can shine down the road up to 1,969 feet, which the company claims is about twice as far as a conventional unit. The additional visual range gives riders extra time to evaluate what's ahead at night and could make for a safer journey. The concept laser headlight on the bike is only a feasibility test for now, but preliminary development is underway. However, the lights might need modification to see production in the US because BMW had to turn down the power on the units in the i8 to get FDA approval, according to BMW Blog. BMW also wants to make riders safer through a helmet-integrated HUD that ensures they never need to take their eyes off the road. While other companies already offer similar products, this solution maximizes the available information. Through controls at a person's left hand on the handlebars, a user can select displays of current speed, selected gear, tire pressure, oil and fuel level, and even speed limits, and the system displays the desired info right in front of the wearer's eye. A front-mounted camera can record the trip, and a rear-mounted one can simulate a rearview mirror. Real-world production of the HUD is still a few years away, but BMW says future versions could incorporate vehicle-to-vehicle communications to let the system receive hazard warnings, too. BMW Motorrad will be displaying two innovations at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas on 6-9 January 2016. Laser light for motorcycles and a helmet with a head-up display will be presented, setting new standards of motorcycle safety, along with a technical outlook of how they may be employed in series models of the future. Hydrogen could deliver one fifth of world carbon cuts by 2050, industry says
Tue, Nov 14 2017BONN, Germany — Increasing the use of hydrogen in power, transport, heat and industry could deliver around one fifth of the total carbon emissions cuts needed to limit global warming to safe levels by mid-century, a report by the Hydrogen Council said on Monday. To encourage industries to use hydrogen, Toyota and Air Liquide helped set up the Hydrogen Council, a global lobby launched in January this year. Its 27 members include automakers Audi, BMW, Daimler, Honda and Hyundai, and energy firms such as Shell and Total. The council said using hydrogen for transport, energy generation, energy storage, industry, heat and power could cut annual carbon emissions by 6 billion tonnes by 2050. "This would ... contribute roughly 20 percent of the additional abatement required to limit global warming to two degrees Celsius," the council said in a report released on the sidelines of a U.N. climate conference in Bonn. To achieve a two-degree limit this century agreed by governments in Paris in 2015, the world must reduce energy-related carbon emissions by 60 percent by 2050. The report said one in 12 cars sold in California, Germany and Japan were expected to be powered by hydrogen by 2030. By 2050, hydrogen could power 400 million cars, 15 million to 20 million trucks, around 5 million buses, a quarter of passenger ships and a fifth of non-electrified train tracks, as well as some airplanes and freight ships. Achieving this shift in transport and other sectors would require investment of $280 billion by 2030, with about $110 billion to fund hydrogen output, $80 billion for storage, transport and distribution, and $70 billion to develop products. Fuel cell vehicles combine hydrogen and oxygen to produce electricity to power an electric motor, producing water as a byproduct. However, making hydrogen from fossil fuels, a common route, also produces some greenhouse gas emissions. So far the take-up of hydrogen vehicles is tiny and industry experts say their wider use is years away, with high purchase prices and a lack of refueling stations the major barriers. But some firms, such as miner Anglo American and carmaker Toyota, are pushing for fuel cell cars to play a role even with the rise of battery-powered electric vehicles (EVs). Woong-chul Yang, vice chairman of automotive research and development at Hyundai said EVs and hydrogen fuel cell cars were needed because EVs were better for city driving and fuel cell vehicles better for longer journeys.
Can the government mechanically force you to wear your seatbelt? [w/poll]
Fri, 30 Aug 2013
The National Highway Traffic Administration is considering the use of ignition interlocks in vehicles that would require the seatbelts of occupied seats to be fastened in order to drive the car, Automotive News reports, four decades after Congress moved to prevent manufacturers from installing them in cars sold in the US market. Following a transportation bill passed last year that lift some of the restrictions on seatbelt interlocks, automakers such as BMW are considering the benefits of using them in future cars. Now, before you go crying about your lost freedom, keep reading.
BMW said in an October 2012 petition that the use of seatbelt interlocks would allow the company to make lighter and more spacious vehicles, if the devices could be used in lieu of unbelted crash tests. The crash test has required the addition of bulky safety features, such as knee bolsters, that aren't as necessary when occupants are buckled up, especially when considering the dizzyng list of safety features that come standard on today's cars. Europe, which has a higher rate of seatbelt use than in the US, doesn't perform unbelted crash tests on cars sold there.
