2002 Bmw Race Ready M3 E46 Horsepowerfreaks Turbo on 2040-cars
Lake Oswego, Oregon, United States
Here is a once in a lifetime opportunity to own the history and legacy of Horsepower Freaks at a fraction of the cost. In the past year the car has only been tracked once. Well over $150k has been invested in this vehicle. This is the same vehicle that has been on the covers of multiple magazines throughout the years.
BIO: "The E46 M3 was reinvented by Horsepower Freaks with a completely new approach to power and style. The elaborate body kit was designed by Perry from Asuka Design to deliver a low coefficient of drag, plenty of down-force and stunning looks. Everything from the front bumper to the rear bumper was painted with Standox paint including the roll-cage, engine, and interior trim pieces. The car was stripped of several hundred pounds of excess weight thanks to HPF. Nearly 40 man hours were spent stripping the chassis harness of all non-essential items or swapping OEM stuff for lighter gear. Even with the added weight of the cage, wing, widebody and turbo kit the M3 weighed in at 3,127 lbs. With the driver in the driver's seat, the car now has near perfect 50:50 weight distribution. One of the most important aspects of every car built for the track is traction and loads of it. HPF chose VIP Modular for their extremely strong and lightweight wheels. The 19x10 and 19x13-inch wheels were custom built and feature a gloss black lip and matte finish on the center. VIP Modular even etched the letters "HPF" directly onto each wheel. Wrapped in Hoosier R6 265 slicks in the front and 325's in the rear all of the necessary traction is there. The handling was critical to this track beast and the parts were chosen wisely. HPF selected the OS Giken differential and improved acceleration exiting turns and increased durability. A set of KW Variant 3 coil-overs were chosen which provide dampening and rebound adjustment and the UUC lower control arms were used to add rigidity and adjustability. HPF took chassis tuning even further and installed their own front under brace to tie the front suspension points together. The entire chassis was dramatically stiffened with a custom gusseted roll-cage built and installed by Racetech Motorsports. The interior was stuffed with Sparco Circuit Pro race seats and RCI 5-point seat belts. HPF retained the factory dash and modified it to fit within the roll-cage constraints to keep the BMW feel. The steering wheel is a Vertex which easily disconnects from teh Rothsport Racing quick release hub. To monitor engine parameters, this beast was equipped with an AEM fuel pressure guage, AEM oil pressure gauge, AEM boost gauge, and an AEM wideband. Running the fully built HPF S54 engine, the block was bored and plateau-brushed using state of the art Sunnen equipment. It was then balanced and stuffed with HPF-spec pistons, rods, main studs, wrist pins, rings and bearings all done by M&B Cylinder Heads. The stock S54 head flow so well, that HPF didn't need to massage or modify the head or even the cams, but it did require ARP L19 studs to clamp it down. The S54 utilizes dual VANOS technology that allows HPF to position the camshafts + or - 20 degrees for every RPM and every boost level, giving all kinds of timing adjustability along with the drivability of a grocery getter. This vehicle was tailored specifically for the track with the HPF Stage 3 Turbo system that make well over 800rwhp when the button is pressed and 650rwhp when the button isn't pressed. The HPF Magic button is right by the steering wheel and switches maps when the driver wants an additional 150rwhp on those long straights to pass everyone and everything. To hold the power HPF turned to JDM manufacturer OS Giken and their triple clutch. As most of you know this car is the real deal. It has been on the cover of countless magazines. To feed the six-shooter, HPF installed twin Walboro 255lph fuel pumps in addition to the factory fuel pump. To maintain fuel pressure, AEM's high volume fuel pressure regulator was used which feeds fuel under pressure to HPF's fuel rail and into six RC Engineering 1200cc low impedance injectors. Okada projects plasma direct ignition coils store up spark energy and NGK racing spark plugs fire the intake air charge for each cylinder. The boost comes from a Precision dual ball-bearing billet wheel turbo running an .81 A/R. The turbo spools insanely quickly, yet still flows enough to make 800rwhp surprisingly well. This is achieved via computer controlled boost feedback through the HPF/AEM EMS system and the TiAL 44mm V-band wastegate. To vacate the intake system of pressure when the ITBs are closed, twin HKS Super Sequential BOV's were installed one directly in front of the intake manifold, and one directly after the turbo. To cool the intake charge a massive HPF intercooler was used which measures 24x12x4 inches with a 95-percent efficiency rating. All of this cool air is forced into the engine via the HPF flow benched "orange" intake manifold which equalizes air to all six cylinders. To keep everything tight under pressure, all of the silicon couplers were designed by HPF for precise fitment and they all utilize 5-layer silicone so the t-bolt clamps won't loosen up. To keep the engine cool during long track sessions, HPF installed the Active Autowerke mechanical fan which utilizes a stiffer clutch as the factory clutched fan will often slip during hard abuse. They also wired the air conditioning fan to stay on once the car is started and left the factory fan shroud in place to improve air flow through the radiator. To keep the oil cool, they designed an additional oil cooler that runs in series with the factory oil cooler." - Text by Dave Pankew of pasmag.com Brief breakdown Body and Wheels ---------------------- Asuka carbon fiber widebody (13" wider than factory)

Updated BMW X6 spied running the 'Ring in Germany
Tue, 22 Oct 2013Following the debut of the X5 earlier this year, it shouldn't come as a shock that BMW is testing an updated X6 in its homeland. The Munich-based manufacturer trekked to the Nürburgring to test the lifted, four-door coupe it calls a Sports Activity Vehicle, while also giving us our first peak as to what the future holds for one of the weirder models in the brand's stable.
Mainly, we can safely expect the next X6 to get the same range of refinements made to its platform-mate, the X5, which debuted earlier this year. If we're lucky, that could mean an X6 sDrive35i, complete with rear-wheel drive with which to fling the big SAV about. Adding a rear-drive option could also broaden its admittedly limited appeal by lowering the cost of entry, which could serve the pricier X6 well. As a point of reference, the X5 sDrive35i is priced at $2,300 below an xDrive all-wheel-drive-equipped model.
The X6's top-flight xDrive50i model should get the same 45-horsepower bump as the X5 xDrive50i, thanks to refinements to its twin-turbocharged, 4.4-liter V8, while the 3.0-liter, turbocharged six-pot should remain unchanged. We wouldn't hold our breath for an X6 diesel to arrive, although weirder stuff has happened. Like the X5, though, this should be a pretty slim refit that improves an already competent package to go along with an expected increase in price.
BMW X4 Concept is no Shanghai surprise
Thu, 04 Apr 2013"One in four new BMW cars is now a BMW SAV." If you're new to BMW parlance, SAV stands for Sports Activity Vehicle, a vehicle type most of us more commonly refer to as a crossover, and that statistic, which comes straight from the automaker itself, tells you all you need to know about why the X4 Concept you see above exists.
Like its larger X6 sibling, the BMW X4 Concept tries to shove a crossover in a mold shaped vaguely like a fastback coupe. Put another way, the X4 is likely to be a polarizing design, though perhaps not to the extent that the X6 divided opinions. As for us, we definitely prefer the styling of this X4 Concept, with its strong character lines and impressive wheel-to-bodyside ratio, over that of its bigger brother. That said, we're sure the AMC Eagle comparisons will begin in earnest starting right about... now.
Dimensionally, it seems the most obvious machine with which to compare this X4 Concept is the 3 Series Wagon - we're not sure if it will be as spacious inside as the 3 Series Gran Turismo. A two-inch stretch in the wheelbase ought to bring a commensurate improvement in legroom, and a body that's nearly five inches longer should be a boon for cargo capacity. Of course, that fastback roofline will surely cut down on the car's roominess inside, but we'll have to wait for the final production model to judge its true capabilities.
BMW readying Spartanburg expansion for X7 production
Mon, 24 Mar 2014Prior to the debut of the original X5 in 1999, the idea of a BMW crossover might have seemed like heresy. But here we are, fifteen years removed from the Frank Stephenson-penned design, and the Bavarian automaker has expanded its crossover lineup to include the X1, X3, X4 and X6, and it's showing no sign of slowing down.
We recently reported that BMW is planning on slotting an X2 in at the bottom of the range between the X1 and X3, but now it's being widely reported that it's got an even larger one to put in at the top of its utility line. That, of course, would be the X7, a long-rumored three-row model that would give BMW a large family hauler to challenge the Mercedes-Benz GL.
According to The Wall Street Journal, BMW is expanding its assembly plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina, to accommodate production of the X7 alongside the X3, X4 and X5 that it already builds there for local consumption.
