MY HISTORY:
I am selling because I bought this M3 as a project car to drop in a V8 engine and turbo. At the same time, the engine, transmission, and ECU are for sale too. But by the time this posting is over, I will have a son (hopefully) and will be needing one or the other to sell. So whichever option sells first determines my actions. If the powertrain sells, the car will not be for sale and the project will continue as planned. If the car sells, then I will see how parenthood goes and decide if the project will begin again or not sometime next year.

I bought this car from a dealership who told me it was not the original engine. I did not verify if that was the case or not - but if it is the original engine she's got great compression numbers and runs very strong. It may have sat for a year or so and was not in the best of condition. The E-brake wasn't working so I took it apart and fixed that. She isn't the strongest e-brake but she does work. The car came lowered and honestly drove horrible. I put stock springs on, got an alignment and four used, but decent treaded tires put on. She drives straight, and nice now. Truly I find myself driving a bit like an a-hole because she's light, small and nimble. The underside of the car was coated in fluid. So I traced the leakage and replaced the valve cover gasket and fixed a power steering reservoir leak. The car's underside, after driving it daily, has been completely dry now. Her AC system was not working when I bought it, the AC condenser was broken. So I replaced that with a new condenser and she blows nice and cold. The O2 sensor was not functioning, so I replaced that as well and now the car drives great and strong with no check engine lights.

As far as appearance... I shampooed, and steam cleaned the carpets and the seats. I added smoked tail lights and corner lights. I did this because the tail light assemblies were goofed up and things weren't making proper contact. Also, there is a section between the trunk lid and the rear bumper that had rusted. I bought a new piece to put on there, but it needs to be painted. I have not gotten around to doing that yet but the piece will come with the car. The front bumper didn't have the grill in it and was flaking. So I bought a new one, which will come with the car. It just needs to be painted as well. There was a big dent in the passenger side rear quarter panel (as seen in the pictures). This dent has been pulled, but is not perfect. I figured I'd make it perfect when I had the other pieces painted but haven't gotten to that point yet. The seats are cracked - very common for the dove grey interior - and the stitching on the drives seat bolster has separated. None of the leather is ripped though.

As far as condition... If you decide to buy the car, she's ready to drive immediately. Power windows, power door locks, sunroof, heated seats, windshield wipers, turn signals, head lights, high beams, climate control, etc all work. With that said though, she could use a little TLC in the following areas. She could use some updated suspension work. And the exhaust has a very small leak. She could use new fog light bulbs, rear stereo speakers, and the cruise control system doesn't work. The ABS light comes on and I believe that to be because of a faulty wheel speed sensor... or maybe its just dirty. The shifter is a little sloppy. I am unfamiliar with how it works, so I was not able to trace down the failure.

I do drive her quite a bit these days. She's got really nice pickup and averages 27 miles per gallon (hwy and city combined). She starts right up and goes without issue, stuttering, etc. Might be running slightly rich for a second on startup but does great. The dealership said their were bigger injectors installed - and I don't believe there are.

Here is a video of the exhaust sound and acceleration:

(Little rich on start up - the exhaust doesn't sound as raspy in person but it is on the louder side for sure)

Environmental group accuses BMW, JLR of link to deforestation in Paraguay

Wed, Sep 30 2020

ASUNCION, Paraguay — Environmental group Earthsight said on Wednesday it has linked some of Europe's largest carmakers to the deforestation of the Chaco, a dry forest region of Paraguay home to jaguars and one of the last uncontacted indigenous groups in the world. The group said in a report that livestock companies have illegally logged lands of the Ayoreo Totobiegosode indigenous ethnic group, some of whose members live in voluntary isolation. The livestock skin is used in leather upholstery of luxury vehicles sold by high-end European auto brands including BMW, Jaguar and Land Rover, the group said. UK-based Earthsight said it had made covert visits to tanneries that bragged about supplying the raw material to the luxury car brands. "BMW is using hides sourced from two slaughterhouses processing cows from ranches responsible for illegal [logging] in the Ayoreo Totobiegosode's forests. Jaguar Land Rover didn't dispute sourcing from a Paraguayan tannery that processes hides from another slaughterhouse doing the same," the report said. Jaguar Land Rover said in a statement to Reuters it had found no evidence to verify Earthsight's claims. It said its European suppliers assured sustainability. "We continue  our drive for further transparency and, in this case, the leather supplier in Europe verifies with each raw material supplier that no rural property that directly supplies it is involved in illegal deforestation," the automaker said. BMW did not respond to a request for comment on the Earthsight investigation. Paraguay exports about 50,000 tons of wet-blue leather (tanned, but not dried, dyed or finished) a year, and almost two-thirds of those shipments are bound for Europe, according to the report. Automakers say that leather is a byproduct of the far larger meat industry and high-end cars constitute a comparatively small market niche. But indigenous leaders say deforestation driven by growth in beef and leather exports is encroaching on their territory and destroying their way of life. "As deforestation advances with extensive cattle ranching, they are being imprisoned, they are disappearing," Taguide Picanerai, a spokesman for the Ayoreo community in the Alto Paraguay department, northwest of Asuncion, told Reuters. The region is home to some of the world's highest rates of deforestation, Earthsight said.   Green BMW Jaguar Land Rover

Forza Horizon 3 adds Ford Police Interceptor, Jeep CJ5

Tue, Oct 4 2016

We're only a few weeks past the debut of Forza Horizon 3, and already the folks at Turn 10 are introducing the first of six car packs for the open-world driving game. Focused heavily on performance, there are still a few, um, oddballs, including one we're sure Forza's livery customizers will have a blast with. The Smoking Tire Car Pack brings seven new vehicles to FH3, with the Aston Martin Vulcan, Pagani Huayra BC, GTA Spano, Lotus 340R, and BMW M2 repping traditional performance vehicles. As per usual, FH3 renders each car beautifully and promises a solid approximation of real-world performance – even if you do ditch the roads and opt to rampage through the Australian countryside. While performance is good, the Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor and the Jeep CJ5 Renegade bring an off-beat vibe to this particular pack. We aren't certain, but this might be the first time the Police Interceptor appears in a blockbuster driving game. While we expect plenty of police car liveries for the Crown Vic, Forza's rabid community of tuners and customizers are sure to do much more with it. As for the CJ5, is there a better vehicle for tooling about Australia? Yeah, we didn't think so. The Smoking Tire Car Pack is available for free as part of the Forza Horizon 3 Ultimate Edition or Car Pass program. Commitment-phobes can also download this single vehicle pack for $7. Pure black BMW i8 hydrogen fuel cell prototype on the track

Sat, Jul 18 2015

Largely coated in matte black paint with just a few touches of dark blue contrast, the BMW hydrogen fuel cell-powered i8 prototype looks stealthy just sitting still. Now, that ninja-like styling is taking to the track in this video to prove that its performance doesn't come with much noise. The quiet hum of the tires and an odd whir from the rear are all that you hear coming. As this i8 prototype picks up speed around the circuit, the sounds that the drivetrain makes just get weirder. When moving slowly, you can pick out the usual whine that's expected from conventional electric vehicles. However at higher velocities, the coupe almost makes a noise like its constantly exhaling. Along with the recently unveiled BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo hydrogen-fueled concept, this sneaky looking i8 is part of BMW's technological push to become a greener automaker. The company is also prototyping a turbocharged engine with water injection and new plug-in hybrid powertrains. Although this low-slung coupe is by far the most attractive of that bunch. We might not be too far away from actually seeing this tech on sale on models bearing the Bavarian brand's roundel, either. Thanks to collaboration with Toyota, the company wants to have fuel cell components ready by 2020, and sales could start early in the decade. Hopefully all of the company's FCEVs look as menacingly great as this i8 by that time, though.
