BMW's iPhone app tells you how to be on time
Fri, Apr 1 2016BMW is presenting its Connected North America digital mobility service at the Microsoft BUILD conference in San Francisco. The service is referred to as a cross-platform mobility concept, and it is said to be based on a digital infrastructure called the Open Mobility Cloud, itself based on the Microsoft Azure architecture. In layman's terms, it automatically recognizes information related to planned movement and travel, such as destinations and arrival times, and combines this with traffic data. The user's smartphone receives notifications of suggested departure times based on current traffic, and this information can then be transferred to the vehicle's navigation system. Practically, it'll politely inform the driver when they should get going if they plan to make it to their destination in time. Another feature is that frequently visited places are automatically stored in the Open Mobility Cloud. The BMW Connected North America for iOS can be used in BMW vehicles equipped with the optional ConnectedDrive Services add-on. BMW says more markets will follow during 2016. Permanent erection lawsuit against BMW thrown out
Wed, 19 Mar 2014The California man who claimed that he suffered from a 20-month erection after a four-hour ride on his BMW K1100RS motorcycle (similar model pictured above) has had his case dismissed. It seems the court found his claims too hard to believe.
Henry Wolf filed a product liability lawsuit against BMW and seatmaker Corbin-Pacific in the California Superior Court in April 2012 after he claimed a motorcycle ride in September 2010 caused a long-term case of priapism from the "ridge-like" saddle design. He asked for compensation for lost wages, medical expenses and emotional distress from both companies.
Nearly two years later, according to Visor Down, Judge James J. McBride decided that the case didn't have enough supporting evidence. A urologist testified that the plaintiff had priapism, but the court rejected the testimony of a neurologist who claimed the motorcycle's vibration caused the disorder. The defendants presented testimony from the bike's former and subsequent owners. Corbin-Pacific CEO Mike Corbin also spoke in the company's defense.

You can counter that we just happened to query a tiny and ignorant sample size, and it's possible that you're right. Nevertheless, in every case,we were speaking to BMW's core demographic, the increasing legion of buyers who have fostered another year of record growth and are responsible for BMW retaining its global luxury title for nine straight years. Question that, and we'll refer you to BMW's marketing department, its several hundred PowerPoint slides and several thousand pages of research that prove the point.
That second-generation E30 3 Series built a name, a brand and an entire segment by defining BMW-ness as superlative driving dynamics meets luxury - shortened to the phrase, "The Ultimate Driving Machine." Thirty years later, just being a part of BMW-ness and luxury is enough for the majority of buyers. The superlative handling, that's optional, and 150 hairy guys meet every Tuesday to keep the old religion going, light torches, sing dirges to the siren long gone and bang on their keyboards about the apostasies of modern buyers.
