Petrolicious carves up the road with a pumpkin-colored BMW 2002
Wed, Nov 25 2015Sometimes the best way to learn a skill the right way is to completely screw things up the first time. Carter Kelly Kramer figured out that lesson during years of restoration work on his 1976 BMW 2002. What he lacked in talent, Kramer made up with dogged perseverance until he had the pumpkin-colored BMW in this week's video from Petrolicious. The problems started the moment Kramer bought the 2002 on eBay. It turned out to have rotten floors, no brakes, and plenty of other issues. However, Kramer was 16 and thought he could fix everything that was wrong. It was long repair process with a multitude of problems. Kramer even briefly sold the car. Kramer's tenacity eventually resulted in the orange 2002 that he has today. After all the work, the classic BMW is now far from stock, but the mods express Kramer's dream for the car. This engrossing story of determination also introduces a new opening for Petrolicious' videos. It also has a redesigned website. Related Video:
BMW doubles i8 production to meet demand
Sat, Mar 28 2015They're not exactly Ford F-150 pickup truck numbers, but global sales of the BMW i8 plug-in hybrid are spurring the German automaker to step up the supercar's pace of production. As rumored, Bimmer, which has been pretty happy with sales of its i3 electric vehicle, is going to double the production pace of the i8. BMW's Germany factory will now put out about 20 i8 vehicles a day, Automotive News Europe says. That should cut down the wait time for the model, which started sales in both Europe last June and in the US two months later. Right now, buyers have to wait about four months to get their i8 plug-in vehicles, Automotive News Europe says, citing German outlet Automobil Produktion. Given that the cars retail for $135,000, we suspect these are people who probably aren't accustomed to wait for much. In January, BMW said that it sold almost 18,000 i3 and i8 plug-in vehicles last year globally, with about a third of those going to the US. Specifically, BMW moved 555 units of the i8 last year (and the vehicle was really only available for about five months) and another 198 through February. Through February, Bimmer also moved 1,759 units of the i3. BMW working on X2 crossover
Thu, May 21 2015Like the rest of the auto industry, BMW is going wild for crossovers, and the company's North American boss is wishing for supply to sell even more vehicles in the segment. It looks like the Bavarian brand is ready to feed all of this demand because the X2 reportedly has the green light for production, according to unnamed insiders speaking to Autocar. As its name suggests in BMW parlance, the X2 would be a five-door, high-style, coupe-like CUV that would be a smaller take on the X4 and X6. While these models aren't necessarily paragons of aesthetic beauty in the brand's lineup, their development is partially subsidized by other vehicles. The X2 reportedly shares drivetrains, electrical systems, and a platform with the next-gen, front-wheel drive X1 (pictured above). Sales in the UK at least could begin as soon as the second half of 2017, according to Autocar, and an M Performance version boasting up to 300 horsepower might even join the lineup in 2018. "We're finalizing the first prototypes now," a source said to Autocar, and a concept should preview the design before release, possibly at next year's Geneva Motor Show. BMW trademarked the X2 name in 2012, and rumors have continued to arise about it since then, including a possible design sketch. Related Video:
