Paint and body in very good condition, and interior is in top shape and clean. Runs like new. Wheels need some work as some of the plating is pitted and has peeled on one of them, but they are functionally fine. Minor stone chip(s)on hood. Tires still have decent tread remaining. Maintained well by BMW dealer."

This listing is for a BMW 540i in very good condition (body and mechanical). It comes with all original documentation and the BMW video for new vehicles. I am the second owner, and have had the vehicle since 2003. It was garage kept by the previous owner and it has been garage kept since I have owned it. Body and Paint is in very good condition, and interior is in top shape and clean. Leather in very good condition. All electronics in dash work properly. Radio, Cassette deck and 6 CD player all work properly.  Runs like new. Right rear wheel needs some work as plating is peeling, others are in "ok" shape, spare never used. Body has minor chips and wear that would be expected of a 14 year old vehicle. I have a set of winter tires and wheels with BMW emblems that will go with the car, as well as a soft grill cover.  Excellent opportunity for someone who wants a solid '99 BMW 540i. The vehicle is fun to drive, but with a new teen driver in the house, it's time to get a more "practical" vehicle with automatic transmission.

Rolls-Royce sketching out SUV for possible 'late 2017' release

Wed, 14 May 2014

With each new story on the Rolls-Royce SUV, the Goodwood automaker comes off as more at ease with their reluctantly birthed yet necessary sport ute. Company design chief Giles Taylor told Autocar that his team is still "sketching to assess the viability of the concept," which to ours ears means they're trying to figure out if such a beast is even possible within the confines of the brand. If it is, Taylor says it will be "a shooting brake, not a crossover with a sloping roof. A proper SUV."
A different company source, unnamed, seems confident that Taylor's team will figure it out, telling the magazine it would start at 200,000 pounds ($335K US). However, that same source said the vehicle will be "a kind of Mercedes-GLK-plus-plus," which is a baffling description in several ways. More reasonable is the speculation that it will ride on Ghost, not Phantom, architecture and make its debut sometime around late 2017.
That Ghost platform is expected to take cues from the carbon, aluminum and steel bones that supported the BMW Vision Future Luxury concept shown at the Beijing Motor Show and destined for the 9 Series. Some of those tricks will also go into the next-generation Phantom, which Autocar says will come in 2017 and not 2020.

BMW wants world drifting record back in US

Sat, 23 Mar 2013

BMW just can't stand the thought of the world record for the longest drift winding up in the hands of someone else. The German automaker is set to take a crack at setting a new record by blowing the old one straight out of the water. A driver in China holds the current title after kicking a car sideways for a full 3.6 miles. Now, on May 11, BMW Performance Driving Instructor Johan Schwartz will attempt to pitch a BMW M5 sideways for some 40 miles as part of a stunt to raise funds for the BMW Pro-Am Charity.
We've had the distinct pleasure of riding with the instructors at the BMW facility in South Carolina, and we can tell you that if anyone can keep an M5 at full tilt for 40 miles, it's these guys. BMW has released a teaser video to drum up attention for the stunt. You can catch it below.

Hands-on with BMW's Open Mobility Cloud at CES

Fri, Jan 8 2016

BMW had a bevy of cutting-edge technology ready for the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show that ran the gamut from a laser headlight for motorcycles to replacing the mirrors on an i8 with rear-facing cameras. The German automaker's most potentially life-changing (or most creepy, depending on your attitude) concept was the Open Mobility Cloud that aimed to connect the vehicle with a person's daily agenda, sort of like the way many folks use their smartphones. The tech includes a sci-fi piece of furniture called the Mobility Mirror that looks straight out of Star Trek. The pane of glass displays everywhere a person needs to go during the day, offers appointment reminders, and tracks vehicle charging. It even sends an autonomous car out of the garage when the owner picks up the key to leave the house. Get a better look at this cutting-edge connection between the home and the automobile from Autoblog editor-in-chief Michael Austin, direct from CES.
