Very fine, well cared for example. This model was only made in '87 and '88.  I have owned several and am selling because I bought another one.  Purchased 5yrs. and 20K mi. ago in western Colorado from seller who owned it for 10yrs. and 20K mi.  Originally sold in Virginia. Three owners. I have original window sticker with purchase price of $39,555 showing optional limited slip differential; I believe this was the only option available. I have original sales brochure.  I have all my records but not older ones.  Professionally maintained by local BMW expert.  Car is dry and rust free except for very minor trace surface rust appearing at joint areas of rear driver's side quarter panel which was replaced sometime prior to my ownership; the material used to seal the panel has developed very slight cracking and some hairline rust tracing. Also, same thing near roof line on left side due to roof rack mount; it seems newer paint is thinner and shows these slight rust streaks. See photos. Older paint does not do this. Panel below rear bumper has more than other areas but still small. Entirely surface. Panel and rear door were repainted and have faded less than original paint resulting in some color contrast; new paint is brighter than original paint. This contrast appears more pronounced in bright light photos than I think it does in person; it does not jump out when you see the car but it is noticeable upon closer inspection.  The contrast between the trunk and quarter panel is more pronounced that between front and rear doors.

I have repainted front air dam which was damage free, replaced trunk hinges and seal, replaced front side window seals and front/ rear exterior glass trim, replaced fog lamps, repaired driver's seat outside bolster, replaced rear shocks and flex disk, catalytic converter, starter as well as minor hoses.  I have maintained car to last many years.  All Redline fluids.  K&N air filter and Bavarian Auto chip.  Original air box/ filter included.  28% side window tint.  Cocoa mats.  Preparing for sale I installed my winter tires.  Tires are OK but won't fully balance out at 1/2 or less tread; the soft winter compound always does this.  Wheels are straight with very minor marking. Summer tires were done. I also removed a performance muffler and installed an original BMW muffler I had and this did not go well; the BMW muffler broke and will need to be replaced soon; it's not too loud but will not last and the chrome tips are not well attached.  Interior is very good; leather is somewhat dried with some creasing but not cracking through.  Dash has some cracks.  Everything on the cars works.  My shop always let's me know what's ahead and is advising to watch rear brakes and tie rod/center link in approx. 5K miles; these may go longer.  Next valve adjustment is at 120K and new gasket will be needed as will brake pressure switch.

I drive this car daily.  Mileage at 114,000 is approx. what you will get give or take 100 or so miles.  This car is super clean; no door dings and only a couple minor paint blemishes-I'm the guy who parks at the far end of the lot.  New tires and your choice of exhaust and you are set for awhile; last oil service was at 11621.  In 5-10K more miles you will need rear brakes valve adjustment and maybe tie rod/center link.  There are not many of these left in this condition and prices seem to be going up; I paid more than twice what I'm starting with for my new car with half the mileage.  I love to own and drive these cars. This is a great daily driver that gets many comments and really stands out from the new cars.  Please call me @ 303-641-4457 if you have any questions.  Mike.

Final revision.  This is my first listing as a seller.  I have included every detail about this car and have concluded that the car is better than it looks in this listing.  My old iphone pictures are not sharp enough IMO to convey the overall condition of this car.  The paint contrast is there and the repair items are too but neither really effects the actual impression that this is a really nice car when you see it.  I am also a big E28 fan and know that this is a solid car that will perform as represented-no DIY stories about the mechanical shape of the car; the owner of my shop will take your call to tell you about his 20+ years of maintaining my old BMWs (as a 1988 this is the newest car I have ever owned) and about this car. Mike

BMW M235i Racing takes to the track

Mon, 09 Dec 2013

Last month, BMW showed off a motorsports version of its new 2 Series Coupe called the M235i Racing. While that single image was obviously a rendering or design model, BMW Motorsports has now released a video showing the real deal being tested.
From what we can tell from beneath the camouflage, the wide-body fenders - to accommodate a 3.5-inch track stretch - are slightly different than the image BMW previously released. Still, the body is noticeably different from the stock coupe. The video, which is posted below, shows glimpses of the race-prepped interior, including a full FIA roll cage, but more importantly we get to hear the 333-horsepower engine and its throaty exhaust in action.

What would you drive in 1985?

Wed, May 6 2020

Bereft of live baseball games to watch, I've turned to the good ship YouTube to watch classic games. While watching the 1985 American League Championship Series last night, several of the broadcast's commercials made its way into the original VHS recording, including those for cars. "Only 8.8% financing on a 1985 Ford Tempo!" What a deal! That got me thinking: what would I drive in 1985?  It sure wouldn't be a Tempo. Or an IROC-Z, for that matter, despite what my Photoshopped 1980s self would indicate in the picture above. I posed this question to my fellow Autobloggists. Only one could actually drive back then, I was only 2 and a few editors weren't even close to being born. Here are our choices, which were simply made with the edict of "Come on, man, be realistic."  West Coast Editor James Riswick: OK, I started this, I'll go first. I like coupes today, so I'm pretty sure I'd drive one back then. I definitely don't see myself driving some badge-engineered GM thing from 1985, and although a Honda Prelude has a certain appeal, I must admit that something European would likely be in order. A BMW maybe? No, I'm too much a contrarian for that. The answer is therefore a 1985 Saab 900 Turbo 3-Door, which is not only a coupe but a hatchback, too. If I could scrounge up enough Reagan-era bucks for the ultra-cool SPG model, that would be rad. The 900 Turbo pictured, which was for auction on Bring a Trailer a few years ago, came with plum-colored Bokhara Red, and you're damn sure I would've had me one of those. Nevermind 1985, I'd probably drive this thing today.   Associate Editor Byron Hurd: I'm going to go with the 1985.5 Ford Mustang SVO, AKA the turbocharged Fox Body that everybody remembers but nobody drives. The mid-year update to the SVO bumped the power up from 175 ponies (yeah, yeah) to 205, making it almost as powerful (on paper, anyway) as the V8-powered GT models offered in the same time frame. I chose this particular car because it's a bit of a time capsule and, simultaneously, a reminder that all things are cyclical. Here we are, 35 years later, and 2.3-liter turbocharged Mustangs are a thing again. Who would have guessed?

BMW releases complete pricing info on M3 and M4

Mon, 31 Mar 2014

When BMW unveiled the M3 and M4 at the Detroit Auto Show back in January, we told you that the new sportsters were starting at $62,000 and $64,200, respectively. That leaked info, though, only told a small part of the story for the new M cars. Now, we have the complete pricing sheet on the new coupe and sedan, direct from BMW.
The pricing intel that we had at the time was correct - prices start at $62,000 for four doors and $64,200 for two. Those prices don't include the $925 destination charge. Potential customers should also plan on spending an extra $550, as seven of the eight paint options are of the metallic variety. BMW's trademark Alpine White is the only no-cost paint option.
As for the cabin, customers will, interestingly, have the choice of a cloth/leather combination as standard. That's in addition to the standard suite of leather options. There are also extended leather and full leather options, for $950 and $3,500, respectively. There are three option packages available, covering all the extra goodies for the M3 and M4.
