1998 e39 540i 6spd with 121,000 miles. The car is in excellent condition. It drives like a BMW should. The interior is super clean. The paint is in great shape, but please see ALL of the pictures. I have taken care to represent this car as honestly as possible. It is not perfect, but it is REALLY NICE. I have recently had the bumpers, left front fender and trunk lid repaired and repainted as they had deep scratches and knicks in them, but it was all parking lot and street parking dings. A solid, great looking car with the included 19" wheels (THERE ARE 5 OF THEM, ONE EXTRA THAT IS BRAND NEW) and it also has a sent of winter tires included. Both sets of tires have lots of life left.
Factory options:
- aspen silver exterior. Gray leather interior
- sport seats
- heated seats
- non-folding rear seats
- sunroof
- remote locking/trunk
- heated steering wheel
- dual zone climate control
- dsp factory stereo
- the usual stuff for a 540. Power steering wheel adjustment, memory seat, windows, etc.
My adds:
- SSR comps 19x9 all around. Conti sport contacts. 255/35/19. Full set includes a band new wheel with brand new Pilot Sport Tire in 245 size. A couple of the wheels have minor dings in them.
- winter sport dunlops on oem staggered wheels with matching spare on factory issued all season tire. The paint is flaking on these wheels, but tread on tires is good.
- iPhone/iPod hookup (specUSA) - does not work perfectly with latest iPhone, but it does play music
- stealth one integrated Valentine 1 Radar detector hookup to dash display (see pictures of dash showing this and wire hanging from behind rearview mirror)
- short shifter
- 2000 M5 hid headlights.
- all new cooling system in 2008
- all dash displays work, only one line of missing pixels on climate control
- subtle tint
- always stored indoors, always premium gas
- no accidents, recent repairs on dings and dents from reputable Great Neck auto body shop
- just replaced a few cracked climate control buttons.
This car is currently registered and insured and it has Michigan plates, but has been in NY for the last 10 years and has always been garaged except for the last couple of months after I replaced it with an SUV for my growing family. I have the title in hand.

BMW V8-powered Ford Model A is the definition of Hot Rod
Thu, 20 Jun 2013Today, hotrodding has a pretty staid definition. Take one classic American car, add one classic American V8, sprinkle with tire smoke and you pretty much have every hot rod to roll out of a shop in the last 40 years. Mike Borroughs knows it wasn't always this way. Once upon a time, getting your bucket to go faster meant grabbing whatever parts were lazing about the yard, bolting them together with a bit of ingenuity and laughing your way down the quarter mile. It's in that spirit that Burroughs built his 1928 Ford Model A.
Rather than turn to the tired flathead or the common Chevrolet small block, Burroughs plucked a 4.0-liter V8 from a 1995 BMW 7 Series. With 300 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque, the engine has no trouble shuffling the old A around town. He had to build a custom chassis to get everything to cooperate, but the result is a 1,500-pound heathen that looks built to harass dry lake beds. You can check it out in the video below. Be warned, the soundtrack by Hanni el Khatib may not be safe for work - awesomeness of this caliber rarely is.
Mini Vision Next 100 concept invokes an alternate universe
Thu, Jun 16 2016Sir Alec Issigonis, designer of the 1959 Mini, would probably find Mini's new Vision Next 100 concept amusing. The original Mini was largely an exercise in efficient packaging and clever engineering. That it was handsome, and became iconic, was more a product of its wild success than an intentional product of its exterior styling. While the Mini concept is undoubtedly cleverly packaged, it's almost purely a styling exercise, no matter what sort of futuristic connected/autonomous functionality Mini says it'll have. Mini doesn't seem able to move past the Mini as a caricature of itself. The heavy, floating roof, the vestigial round and friendly "headlamps", the oversized gauge pod. This seems very German, the inability to communicate essential brand attributes without using cliches. Mini is in a styling rut, trying to evolve the same basic styling language with each new generation, stretching it over larger hard points. The Vision Next 100 program would have been a great time to communicate to the public that Mini is more than just styling tropes: it's an attitude, a way of thinking, a connectedness to the driver. More than a badge or bug-eyed headlights. To its credit, the interior is massively decluttered. That's in part to the rear-engine layout, but more on that in a follow-up piece. The comparatively vast footwell and ultra-minimalist dash pair well with the giant windscreen. It feels light, airy, and authentic to the ideals of the originally Mini in terms of space efficiency, without being overly sentimental. Futurism is a thankless profession, and we can't take this concept literally as a vision of what the brand will be in 100 years. We can say this: it doesn't seem that Mini will be able to transcend the styling tropes that currently define Mini. Let's hope they find a way out of their rut. BMW builds its 2 millionth 1 Series on eve of new model's launch
Fri, Mar 6 2015Hard as it may be to believe, it's been over ten years since BMW launched the first 1 Series, taking the Bavarian automaker into more accessible territory for the first time. Later this month, the first examples of the new model will arrive at dealers, but before it does, the littlest BMW has another reason to celebrate as the 2 millionth unit has rolled off the line. The landmark example is a 120i five-door equipped with the M Sport package and painted in Estoril Blue, bound for a customer in Japan. The achievement is even more noteworthy when you consider that what started out as the 1 Series has since been split into two lines. The three- and five-door hatchbacks remain part of the 1 Series, while the coupe and convertible we get in the US that were once part of the 1 Series as well have since been spun off as the separate 2 Series. Production of the three-door takes place exclusively at BMW's plant in Regensburg, while the five-door is split between Regensburg and a second plant in Leipzig. Buyers are further able to specify between diesel and gasoline engines ranging from three cylinders all the way up to six. Munich. 28 March 2015 sees the curtain raised on the market launch of the new BMW 1 Series. Fans of compact driving pleasure can look forward to an even more striking design, a further refined premium ambiance for the interior, engines that are extremely powerful and even more efficient, and innovative equipment features. Ahead of the launch, news filtered through from BMW Plant Regensburg of another reason to smile as the two-millionth BMW 1 Series rolled off the production line. The landmark car was built just a few days after the start of production for the new version of the compact model and is one of the first examples of the new BMW 1 Series range earmarked for export to Asia. The BMW 120i 5-door, painted in Estoril Blue metallic and equipped with an M Sport package, will be delivered to a customer in Japan. This production landmark at BMW Plant Regensburg represents another milestone in the international success story of the BMW 1 Series. In late summer 2014 the company celebrated the model series' tenth birthday.
