BMW X3 spied with nip and tuck nearly complete

With the style-driven BMW X4 coming along in development, it looks like some of the forthcoming crossover's design could trickle over to its utilitarian sibling, the X3. Captured in these spy shots, it appears that the 2015 BMW X3 is preparing for a minor facelift, and from what we can tell, the biggest change will center on the CUV's headlights.
There is plenty of camouflage on the front and rear fascias to suggest updates will occur there, too, but we can definitely tell that the X3 will be getting LED-equipped headlights - at least as an option, anyway. The halos are slightly different from the current offering and there is also an LED strip above the headlights used as turn signal indicators. Another interesting thing we notice in these pictures is the nub at the bottom of the grille (also visible in recent X4 spy shots). While this could be some sort of test sensor for this prototype, it could also be a front-mounted camera for a possible parking assist system.
We don't expect any changes to the powertrain and we're not sure what updates could be in store for the interior, but we're guessing that that the 2015 X3 will debut shortly after the X4 goes on sale next year.

Maybe that adds to the appeal. The good news is that 150 of the 500 cars to be built will come to the United States. US-spec cars will be pretty much as loaded as an M3 gets. That means everything we detailed in our initial report, including the Competition Package and all of the special touches, like that sweet Macao Blue throwback paint. BMW is also including the other three packages available on an M3: the Driver Assistance Plus Package (safety stuff like Active Blind Spot Detection, Active Driving Assistance, and side- and top-view cameras), the Executive Package (the head-up display, a heated steering wheel, a rearview camera, heated rear seats, parking sensors, and wireless device charging), and the LIghting Package (full-LED headlights, auto high-beams). The cars will run $84,245 for a manual transmission or $87,145 for one with the dual-clutch, which amounts to just a little more than a maxed-out run-of-the-mill M3 sedan. Recent concepts like the Vision Next 100 have signaled BMW's plan to become a leader in automotive tech in the near future, but the Bavarian automaker added some concrete details to that strategy during the company's annual press conference. The business promises there are updated i models and more plug-in hybrids on the way, and a vehicle called the iNext could bring an autonomous EV to the road early next decade. Before we see any completely new vehicles, look for BMW to refine its current green models. Later this year, the i3 will get a larger battery capacity, which will increase the hatchback's range. After seemingly endless teasing, the BMW i8 Roadster will finally arrive in 2018, according to a slide during the conference. The company will also launch a plug-in hybrid Mini, but it didn't give a specific arrival date. At the beginning of the next decade, BMW will also introduce a fully autonomous i model.
