Outstanding 2002 BMW 540iAT Sport Wagon with rare color combination and M tech sport package from the factory. Powered by the venerable M62 V8 motor, this is the last 8 cylinder powered Station Wagon produced by BMW. My car is a particularly well maintained example of a rare car with many records and can connect you with previous owner and shop that maintained it for prior six years for those interested. You will look a long time before finding a better e39 540i Wagon with this combination of factory options. I have enjoyed this terrific car for 2 years and put 30,000 trouble free miles on driving mainly highway to our farm in central Illinois. I am a very fussy owner and attend to ALL maintainence more regularly than BMW recommends. Some upgrades include Bravarian Auto speakers, Dice Mediabridge integrated iPod/iPhone dock, Bluetooth/hands free, USB and AUX connection with Sirius SAT radio, all controllled thru M Tech steering wheel. Also I have Widescreen Navigation upgraded to the later (faster) BMW Mark IV DVD unit. A stiffer Eibach rear anti-roll bar has been installed and also installed were K&R front springs, but have reverted back to the factory springs (I will include K&R front springs and original anti-roll bar). New brakes (pads and rotors), radiator, fan clutch, water pump, thermostat, auxiliary fan, ALL control arms and thrust arms. New Bilstien shocks. New rear air springs. At 156,XXX miles this car still feels like it just came out of the factory and with BMW replacing the engine for the original owner at 48,000 miles (it is recorded in BMW computer system can confirm with the VIN# through your friendly Dealer). BMW also replaced the instrument cluster for the previous owner under warranty due to missing pixels in the display. You really need to think of this a is 100,000+ mile car due to the BMW short block replacement; it is in astonishingly good condition and drives fabulously. The history report will indicate one accident with the original owner where apparently the hood and passenger fender were replaced. I bought the car from AlphaCars in Boxborough, MA where they had serviced it for 6 years before I bought it at 127,XXX miles. I will also include the Black Powder Coated Racing Dynamic alloy wheels which are fitted with All Season tires. You can connect to my Skydrive on the following link http://sdrv.ms/OanA51 for 140+ photos including those taken in recently in March 2013 and also in 2012 with the K&R springs and 17x8.5 Racing Dynamic Forged Alloy wheels. Also on the Skydrive are all the receipts for the work done over the past 2 years. The pictures show the car with a slightly lowered front with the K&R springs, but as mentioned I have reverted to the original springs. Thanks for looking. Feel free to call or txt me, I am really looking for a BMW enthusiast who will appreciate the car, see make or best offer. I do have the car for sale locally and reserve the right to end this process and sell to a local buyer - James (312) 560 7980 / (e) evancook@msn.com . For 140+ pictures http://sdrv.ms/OanA51 .

2015 BMW 228i xDrive
Wed, Apr 22 2015Has BMW lost its edge? The answer to that depends on what vehicle you're discussing. The company's products, while still quick and agile, are softer and more forgiving than they've ever been. And while this change may be worrying if we're talking about an M3 or an M5, is it necessarily a bad thing for more mainstream models? That's our question after a week behind the wheel of the BMW 228i xDrive, a vehicle that succeeds the beloved, driver-focused BMW 1 Series. In some ways this new car is a let-down, but in many other areas the new 2 Series is just plain better. The latter is particularly true if we're talking about the new sheet metal. While the 1 Series was a great source of compact, rear-drive entertainment, it wasn't a pretty car. The new 2 still isn't a stunner, but it benefits from BMW's latest design language. It looks wider and more muscular than the squat 1 Series, although certain elements, like the daylight opening and rear taillights, look like they were plucked right from the old car. Overall, BMW has crafted a more premium aesthetic for the exterior of its entry-level coupe. A weak spot for the 1er, the 2 Series cabin sports a similarly upscale redo. Like the last-gen car, the top of the dash is home to a master display for the iDrive system (a neutered, non-navigation version on our test car), while the lower half of the center stack is dedicated to analog controls for the HVAC and audio. The dash layout is similar to the 1 Series, but the execution feels more upscale. The trim around the radio and climate controls includes aluminum and gloss accents. The passenger side dash and center console ditch soft-touch plastic for authentic materials – our car uses real brushed aluminum, although piano black and wood are also available. As with all recent BMWs, the combination of the automatic gear lever, the knob and buttons of the iDrive system, and the toggle switch for the Driving Dynamics Control system mean there's a lot of clutter where the driver's right hand falls. What hasn't changed with the 2 Series is the excellent relationship between the driver and the primary controls. Our test car wears the Sport Line package, which does without BMW's obnoxious, too-large-diameter M Sport steering wheel. Instead, there's a thick-rimmed wheel with textured leather and red contrast stitching. It feels more natural than the oversized M wheel, while this car's large paddle shifters have a solid, well-damped action.

Genesis cars win accolades, offer value — so why are sales so bad?
Tue, Jul 31 2018My high-school buddy Brent Cormier was so smitten with the Genesis G80 when he saw it at an event I hosted at SXSW in 2016 he bought a used 2013 Hyundai Genesis a short time later and fell in love with the car. "It surpasses my every expectation," said Cormier, a self-described "renaissance man" who owns and runs a real estate agency with his wife Laura, is a food service executive chef and part owner of Austin-based Thin the Herd Guitars. "I was locked into Mercedes and Audi for 10 years," he added. "And felt trapped in an endless pit of maintenance costs." After owning the Genesis over the past two years — including using it as an Uber and Lyft driver to earn extra cash — Cormier learned what some frugal luxury sedan buyers and a handful of car reviewers have discovered: Genesis offers great bang for the buck compared to other premium brands and can compete with the best in terms of performance, features and comfort. Hyundai's luxury brand also earned a prominent third-party endorsement last week when for the first time Genesis topped J.D. Power's 2018 APEAL study, surpassing German luxury-performance icon Porsche. The APEAL study (which stands for Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout) "measures owners' emotional attachment and level of excitement across 77 attributes," ranging from performance to comfort, and asks nearly 68,000 owners of new 2018 models to score vehicles on a 1,000-point scale. In its second year ranked as a stand-alone brand, Genesis earned an APEAL score that bumped it up 15 points to 884 and helped push it past Porsche — and past BMW, Lincoln, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volvo, Cadillac, Land Rover and Lexus, in order of ranking. Last month, Genesis also topped J.D. Power's Initial Quality Survey (IQS) for the first time this year. And both its models were awarded Top Safety Pick Plus ratings by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, among 11 Plus ratings in all for Korean vehicles. Despite high J.D. Power rankings and great reviews, Genesis U.S. sales were off 50 percent for the first six months of 2018 compared to 2017, and in June Genesis sold only 796 vehicles — the first time U.S. numbers dropped below 1,000 in a month. Part of Genesis's APEAL and IQS success can be attributed to its small product lineup: just two models, the G80 and G90 sedans, with a third, the 2019 G70, launching later this year. And while those numbers may help in J.D.
