1997 Bmw 5 Series 540i E39 White Pearl/tan 4.4l V8 Automatic, Low Reserve on 2040-cars
San Diego, California, United States
RE-LISTED, WITH LOWER RESERVE
This listing is for a 1997 540i BMW e39, v8, automatic with the "S" transmission feature the car runs good the engine is strong, and so is the transmission the vehicle has a salvage title due to theft recovery back in 2002 it was repaired and driven and registered in california DMV until 6/11. it has been unregistered since driven on private property, occasionally turned on for good reasons i dont want the car anymore, ive done a number of maintenance repairs that come customary to this model vehicle like: valley pan gasket vanos gasket service valve cover gaskets all of the cooling hoses fan clutch cooling system flush replaced the radiator transmission service flush and probably more but thats all i can remember now. factory rims and tires, the tires have ok tread but i would replace since tires crack over time, the rims are in good condition the interior is ok, the leather has scuffs but no real tears except for small one on the driver seat back rest. mostly everything on the vehicle works as it should down to the details. the back rear passenger window elevator is bad the sunroof went bad a year ago, and i bought the whole replacement mechanism, its ready to install but i dont want to work on it anymore so i will be included in the sale of the vehicle for the new owner to do, ( i will put it in the trunk) the paint is custom white with gold pearl, looks really nice. but needs work. There is cosmetic damage to the front bumper cover and hood, (as you can see in the pictures) and the trunk lid has hard scratches and plenty of paint nicks from placing thins on the trunk. it will most likely need a new fuel pump, sometime in the near future, i replaced this one many times, BMW's dont like to be parked. AC blows air but not cold. The check engine light is on and the code says it needs the O2 sensor. dont remember what bank, but this will need to be done before it gets smogged for california. this vehicle is sold as is. with a low reserve customer to pick up, or some sort of pick up service can be accommodated the vehicle is in 92111 zip code in a business park. i have no problem taking it to a shipping yard/service or such local location as long as its not too far. Thank you for looking. |

BMW E9 3.0L CSL Batmobile is an awesome retro racer
Tue, Sep 8 2015When BMW released pictures of its 3.0 CSL Hommage earlier this year and then brought a period-livery racing example to Pebble Beach, this is the car it was looking at. The BMW E9 New Six CS came before BMW Motorsport and BMW M cars existed, and well before the tagline "The ultimate driving machine," but it paved the way for all of them. Built as a road-going coupe from 1968 to 1975, 1,265 units out of a total production run of 30,546 units were homologated for the European Touring Car Championship. Fitted with the final specification aero package in 1973 and powered by a 3.003-liter inline six-cylinder with a base rating of 200 horsepower, it proved such an able racer that it won the overall ETCC trophy six times - four of those after its road car donor had ceased production, and a bunch of other races like a class win at Le Mans. Clean samples go for huge money. That aero kit earned it the nickname "Batmobile," and Car Throttle drove a left-hand-drive version in the UK (BMW did build 500 right-hand-drive models, though). This is less a car review and more a dream drive, the host letting us know right off that the 3.0 CSL is the one car he's wanted to drive more than any other. He also finds that the Coupe Sport Leicht had a stop/start system... of the temperamental kind. Check it out in the video above. Related Video:
Take a look at the shocking Rolls-Royce Next 100 concept
Thu, Jun 16 2016Rolls-Royce showed off its Vision Next 100 concept today in London, giving a look at what its vehicles might look like a century years from now. Each BMW brand will show its own concept this year; BMW's Vision Next 100 concept was an interesting mix of textile-like patterns with stretchy fenders and a very 2010s four-door coupe shape, but this Rolls-Royce concept looks more like a luxury version of a World Solar Challenge racer. The car's official title is 103EX, following the convention of recent Roller concepts. Whereas its BMW counterpart was perhaps a safe, predictable vision of the future, the Rolls is a striking vehicle and a big departure for the brand. Whether it works as a whole for you or not, it represents the kind of stylistic provocation that made ex-BMW stylist Chris Bangle a household name. While the early Bangle cars were extremely controversial, this Rolls concept is clearly the heir of his penchant for sharply creased character lines. Call the rocker panel crease flame surfacing if you want. The floating headlamps and blade-edged verticality of the fenders are classic Rolls: imposing and visually heavy, without necessarily being classically beautiful. The square, flat grille is, to my eyes, much less successfully integrated. It seems like Rolls had the perfect opportunity to evolve the trademark grille into something more contemporary. In 100 years, the brand will still need to lean on this sort of anachronism? That seems short-sighted. We'll have more on this concept from our man on the ground in London later today. BMW working on 2 Series Active Hybrid Tourer
Wed, 14 May 2014The cover may have officially been pulled off the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer at the Geneva Motor Show, but BMW has apparently continued working on other variants behind closed doors. While at first glance this prototype looks like any other Active Tourer, the "Hybrid Test Vehicle" stickers on the passenger door and rear bumper give it away as something a little different.
Details about the hybrid Active Tourer are somewhat sketchy at the moment, but BMW indicated its likely direction for the electrified hatchback in the earlier Concept Active Tourer. It used a hybridized 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine coupled with an electric motor with a total system output of 190 horsepower and 147 pound-feet of torque. The company claimed that it had a roughly 19-mile electric range and could hit 62 miles per hour in under 8 seconds. However, the Bavarian automaker hasn't said yet whether this powertrain would be used in the production version.
The internal combustion 2 Series Active Tourer is rumored to come to the US in 2015. Given the nearly complete look of the test car, the hybrid might not be too far behind.
