For sale is a 1988 BMW 535is, that I have owned since 2004.  It is a blast to drive and has that old rough and tumble BMW feel.

Are you looking for a fun project?  Want to own a classic, that is fun to drive and work on?  This is the car for you!

The interior looks great, but the exterior needs TLC (paint and dents / dings).  My priorities have changed, so I don't have time to finish up the exterior work.

Tires in great shape, Interior looks great, Car needs exterior TLC.  No accidents, clean title & carfax.  New battery, most all little stuff works except detailed below.  

Upgrades performed to the car:

- Conforti p chip
- Mustang fuel injectors
- Bilstein HD struts and shocks
- UUC clutch stop
- New style BMW rims- Replaced the carpet.
- Carpet mats
- Wood stick shift
- Upgraded stereo and speakers
- Key-less entry system
- Upgraded vacuum hoses to silicon
- Front and Rear Seats replaced and in crack free condition.

Issues:
- Needs a paint job and ding / dent repair (interior great, but exterior needs TLC) - Original owner had this red car painted black.
- Typical 535 (e28) rear bumper crack
- Driver side door cannot be unlocked with a key (installed remote keyless system to get around)
- A/C leaks so I disabled it by removing the AC compressor belt
- light in drive computer has gone out
- Odometer gear broke and was repaired in 2007, so the car lost mileage between 2003 - 2007.  I suspect it was about 25K since the car was never a daily driver. Speedo needle has a slight kink in it that happened during the change.
- I bought the car with the dash cover installed, but I suspect the dash below is cracked.
- Car runs fast and has new battery, but has mostly sat idle since 2007.
- 535is trunk fin was cracking badly so I replaced it with a 535i trunk lid (without the fin)
- 535is front seats were cracked, so I replaced them with 535i seats

BMW replaces tri-turbo diesel with a quad turbo

Quad turbos have until now been the stuff of Bugattis. BMW is introducing a quad turbo diesel for the 7 Series, with nearly one hundred horsepower per turbo. It's all about making the six-cylinder 3.0-liter turbodiesel all as enticing a proposition as possible, and it faces strong competition from Audi's new twin-turbo V8 diesel available in the SQ7 TDI. The earlier, N57S engine (pictured above) utilized a triple-turbo setup good for 381 horsepower and 546 lb-ft. The new B57 version, confirmed by BMW at the 37th International Vienna Motor Symposium, adds yet another turbo for 394 hp and 561 lb-ft, and that massive torque is available from 2,000 to 3,000 rpm. It means the 7 Series gets from 0-60 mph in a snappy 4.5 seconds. The engine could produce even more torque, but 561 lb-ft is all the ZF 8HP 8-speed automatic transmission can handle. The N57S engine's dual-stage turbocharging setup consisted of one low-pressure turbocharger to take care of low-end torque, and two high-pressure turbos for the higher rev range. In the new B57 engine, the big turbo is now replaced with two smaller units on a common exhaust, to benefit from lower costs and smaller unit weight. In addition to the gains in power and torque, fuel economy has reportedly been improved by 5 percent. There are no reports yet whether the B57 TOP quad-turbo will make it to the US market, but customers in the European high end diesel saloon market will probably be very excited. Initially it will be available in the 750d xDrive version, and other top-end models like the 5 Series and the X5 will follow later on. BMW itself says it is making "Precise modifications to the design" of the facelifted, sixth-generation 5 Series, and this is the result. The 2014 5 Series will come in four flavors - sedan, Touring, Gran Turismo and ActiveHybrid 5 - the biggest news probably the addition of a diesel engine for the US market.
When they go on sale in August, the 528i sedan will start at $50,425, a $1,700 increase over the 2013 model, and if you want xDrive that adds $2,300 to the price across the model range. The 535d employs a 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline six-cylinder diesel with 255 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque and starts at $56,025. BMW portends "substantial fuel efficiency gains over its gasoline-fueled counterpart," but the exact numbers won't come until closer to the on-sale date. The $64,825, top-dog 550i holds pat with 4.4-liter, twin turbo V8, with output upped to 445 hp and 480 lb-ft - an increase of 45 hp and 30 lb-ft of torque. The outputs haven't changed on the twin-turbo four-cylinder in the 528 nor the 3.0-liter six-cylinder gasoline engine in the 535, and *all prices include the $925 destination charge. The engines are also fitted with a coasting mode that uncouples the powertrain when rolling downhill.
Outside there are new "contour lines" for the grille and air intakes, slimmer taillights and elements that accentuate the car's width - as if that were necessary. Xenon adaptive headlights will be standard along with side indicator lights on the rearview mirrors, the options list adds LED headlights, the Luxury Line and Modern Line packages. The former package adds chrome trim to certain exterior elements, the latter adds matte chrome trim.

The BMW M4 and i8 represent two every different expressions of the performance car. The M4 relies on its turbocharged six-cylinder combustion engine to spin the rear wheels. Conversely, the i8 packs a turbo three-cylinder and electric motors for its cutting-edge all-wheel drive system. Top Gear is the latest publication to put the pair together to find out which ethos is quicker. We saw Germany's Auto Bild hold a similar race last year, and the i8 scored a clear victory there. We don't want to spoil the winner of Top Gear's attempt, but we can tease that this sprint ends in a photo finish.
