You are looking at a 1972 BMW 2002 with the desirable round tail lights. Recently purchased, don't have a whole lot of history on the car but I believe its priced very fair and its a good opportunity to get into the collectable BMW market. I'll be painfully honest with the description and perhaps even a bit harsh. While bidding please bear in mind that this car cannot go to the next Concourse event , nor will the walls of your garage be laden with trophies from showing the car every weekend. However, this is the perfect car to take as it is, don't do a full-on, nut and bolt restoration, just drive it. Heck, teach your kids to drive a stick and don't be afraid to let them drive it to school. Take it for a spin and if it rains, so what? Throw the dogs in the back seat, roll the windows down and you'll still turn heads with this neat little '02. Good multi-purpose car, throw your bikes on the roof rack, don't worry about that next door ding......I think you get the idea. Description as follows:

Mechanical:
*Original M10 4 cylinder
*4 speed manual
*Stainless header
*Ansa Exhaust tip
*New tires
*Rebuilt Weber 32/36 carb (manual choke), may need some fine tuning, seems a bit rich
*Clutch/brakes feel fine
*Fresh tune-up: Plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor
*New Engine compartment fuel lines and filter
*New water pump and thermostat; radiator flush, fresh coolant
*Fresh oil/filter
Overall, the car starts/runs/drives good, few shakes/rattles, couple of electrical gremlins (someone had a problem with the turn signal switch, opted to install toggle to replace the factory switch. Heater fan non-op as well. Some of the electrical issues may be due to the 4-way switch? Person with the right abilities could probably have it squared away in a long weekend

Interior:
*Black bucket seat interior
*No radio
*Momo steering wheel
*Newer carpet
*Good headliner
*Overall interior condition very good

Exterior:
*Decent repaint to Alpine White (car was originally white)
*Ireland Engineering front fascia and rear Euro-style bumper
*Molded turbo-style flares
*New Yakima rack with 2 bike attachments
*Vintage 13" OZ Racing Ceres basketweave wheels
*Overall paint and bodywork acceptable but somewhat amateur. Has had the typical 2002 rust and rust repair (spare tire well, portions of floor repaired, one rocker replaced)

Once again, great little driver, not a candidate for restoration in my opinion due to existing rust/repair. Priced accordingly, lot of bang for the buck. Please take the time to review all pics, don't hesitate to call with any questions 517-425-0129. I also have contact with a reasonable shipping company and would be glad to assist. Vehicle offered by Rare Rides, a licensed Michigan dealer.

TERMS: 25% NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT DUE WITHIN 3 DAYS OF AUCTION CLOSE, BALANCE DUE WITHIN 7 DAYS OR VEHICLE PICKUP, WHICHEVER COMES FIRST. PREFERRED PAYMENT IS BANK TO BANK WIRE TRANSFER OR CERTIFIED BANK FUNDS. VEHICLE PURCHASED AS/IS, NO REFUNDS OR WARRANTIES IMPLIED.

BMW 1 Series getting a small nose job

Tue, 06 Aug 2013

As BMW prepares to launch its new 2 Series lineup, it appears that the current 1 Series is going to get a little attention for itself. Based on these spy photos, the 1 Series hatchback (F20/F21), which is not offered in the US, will be getting a minor facelift in the near future.
From what we can see in these images, the updated 1 Series will definitely be getting a tweaked front end, with most of the attention focusing on the air intakes and grille. Our shooter tells us that it is possible that the headlights may yet be reworked in some way by the time we see this car in production form. It still isn't clear if we'll ever see this bodystyle or the next-gen 1 Series in the US, but our most recent report seems to indicate that the car's fortunes will depend somewhat on how well the Mercedes CLA-Class and Audi A3 sell.

Mercedes chief invites Audi, BMW to compete in F1

Thu, Dec 4 2014

Mercedes-Benz didn't just win the Formula One World Championship in 2014 – it positively dominated it. The team won all but three of the grands prix this season, scoring a one-two finish at more than half of them and landing at least one car on the podium at every race without exception. It goes without saying, then, that the German automaker thrives on competition, but now it's welcoming even more. Speaking with Germany's Sport Bild at its homecoming celebration in Stuttgart, Daimler chief Dieter Zetsche welcomed Mercedes' biggest rivals Audi and BMW to join it on the F1 grid. Noting that the three German brands share some 80 percent of the market for luxury automobiles, Zetsche said that F1 would make a natural arena of competition for Mercedes, Audi and BMW to fight for top bragging rights. The three currently compete against each other in front of home audiences in the DTM touring car series – effectively Germany's equivalent to NASCAR – but of the ten races held this year, the majority were in Germany itself, and all of them took place in Europe. BMW last competed in F1 when it bought the Sauber team in 2006, but withdrew from the series in 2009. Despite its progenitor Auto Union having fielded the famous Silver Arrows in pre-war grand prix racing, Audi has never been a player in modern F1 racing, though recent rumors have linked it to a potential foray – spurred by the arrival of sister-company Porsche on its home turf at Le Mans, the departure of several of its key endurance drivers and the hiring of former Scuderia Ferrari chief Stefano Domenicali. Porsche had similarly considered an F1 program before getting the go-ahead to compete with Audi at Le Mans. As for the prospect of Mercedes competing in other international racing series, Zetsche added that year-long preparations for 24 hours of racing at Le Mans didn't present a good cost-benefit ratio in his estimation, but that Formula E (where Audi currently supports a quasi-works entry) would be worth a closer look.

BMW M1 really was the Ultimate Driving Machine

Thu, 29 May 2014

Life giving you lemons? Make lemonade. That's the spirit in Munich that lead to BMW producing the only mid-engined sports car in its 98-year history. The project resulted from a collaboration with Lamborghini (now owned, incidentally, by arch-rival Audi) to meet Group 4 homologation requirements. Lamborghini withdrew, the FIA changed its rules, but BMW built it anyway.
Arguably one of Giorgetto Giugiaro's finest designs, the M1 packed a 3.5-liter inline-six, driving 273 horsepower to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual. The Procar racing version turbocharged that output up to 850 hp and attracted the top drivers in a one-make F1 support race series.
Over the course of three years, the Bavarian automaker only built 456 examples of the M1, and for BMW enthusiasts, there's no vehicle more coveted. But don't take our word for it - let Petrolicious tell one noteworthy owner's tale in the video below.
