With great hesitation I am moving forward with the sale of my 1973 BMW 2002. This has been a five year restoration process which involved complete disassembly of the car down to every nut, bolt, and component. The body was paint stripped to the metal. Minimal rust repair necessary which was accomplished with new metal. All chasis metal was acid washed and treated before painting. Painting was professionally done with OEM Glasurit paint in BMW Chamonix white. This was sprayed with an epoxy based paint for longenvity and protection. All suspension components were hot tanked, stripped, cleaned to bare metal, inspected for rust, and painted with epoxy chasis paint or powder coated. All brand new OEM BMW bushings were installed. Entire chasis was sound-proofed with FatMat adhesive sound insulation.

Motor was completely broken down, hot tanked, cleaned, bored over 0.50". Brand new Mahle high compression piano top pistons. Original rods re-bushed and balanced. Crank cleaned spec'd and polished. New bearing throughout. New BMW oil pump. Valve and timing cover powder coated. Brand new Ireland Engineering 4" aluminum crankshaft pulley. Ireland Engineering Aluminum radiator. Head rebuilt with new valve guides and seals, and valves. Brand New Schrick 292 cam installed with new Febi cam followers and high performance Schrick valve springs. Fuel delivered by Carter fuel pump mounted in the trunk feeding twin Dellorto DHLA 40 rebuilt carbs. Carbs mounted with a one piece Ireland Engineering manifold. Carbs have aluminum velocity stacks with mesh air filters. Brand new lighter, and stronger BMW 320 starter installed. New clutch, pressure plate, resurfaced flywheel.
Performance ceramic coated header and exhaust down pipe mated to Ansa sport exhaust.

5 speed conversion: 3 series 5 speed transmission with approx 150K on transmission--works flawlessly. New mounts welded on chasis for 5 speed transmission (from Aardvark). Original driveshaft cut and shortened. Ireland Engineering 5 speed short shifter and shifter assembly. Original open diff still installed and working fine.

Other Items:
-OEM gas tank was cleaned, treated and powder coated.
-Pedal box powder coated and reassembled with new bushings and components.
-Front suspension converted to coil-over with Ground Control adjustable coilover kit. Struts shortened, Bilstein inserts.
-Ireland Engineering adjustable camber plates.
-Rear suspension set with Ireland stage II springs and Bilstein sport shocks.
-Racetep rear brace/battery relocation kit for relocating battery to the trunk.

-Front and rear bumpers are NOS original bumpers. Not re-chromed. Front bumper currently not mounted.
-Red center Euro tail light lenses.

Original unrestored parts/components:
Original interior--not refurbished. This is why driver seat has a tear.
Original dash, instrument cluster, Blaupunkt radio.
Original trunk boards
Original heater core and heater box rebuilt (completely disassembled, cleaned, painted, new foam etc). Huge PITA but worth it.
Original rear and side glass (green tint).
Original belt-line aluminum trim, door trim, and rocker trim.

2 sets of wheels.
1: BMW turbine 13" X 5.5 with Bridgestone Potenza rubber. 200 miles on the tires max.
2: Original Mahle 13X6 wheels with
Front Hella 500 Yellow fogs lights.
Fiam dual tone air horns.

I am sure there is something I am missing. This project has been a blast. Have probably over 300 photos detailing the entire restoration process. I love the car and would keep it but other interests are brewing and I cannot afford to keep all the toys. If I continued this would certainly morph into a classic race series 2002. This car has about 1K of use since the rebuild. Everything works as it should. Nothing leaks. Gets tons of attention whereever I go and at Cars'N'coffee events. If you are looking for a GREAT example of a 2002 to daily drive this is it. Or you could take this further and turn it into a great classic racer.
Please do not hesitate to ask any questions.

If purchasing:  500.00 dollar NON-refundable down payment via paypal within 48 hrs of the end of auction.
Remainder of payment due 7 days after intial 48 hrs. Certified check or cash.
NO WARRANTY. CAR IS SOLD AS-IS. Keep in mind this is not a new car and though restored is over 30 years old. I will do everything to represent this car honestly.
Shipping or pick-up of the car is the responsibility of the buyer. I will try to assist any way possible. I have had cars shipped across the country. It is pretty straight forward.

Thanks for looking!

2015 BMW M4 Convertible is here to put wind in your sails

Thu, 03 Apr 2014

Each generation of the BMW M3 has included a convertible model. Even the distant E30, the patriarch of the M3 line, had an ultra-rare (only 787 were built) droptop model. The convertible became more common on the successive generations, with the hardtop-convertible E93 being the most recent. Considering this history, there seemed very little doubt that as the M3 became the M4, a convertible would be in the cards. Now, the new droptop has arrived.
Set for its global debut at the 2014 New York Auto Show, the 2015 BMW M4 Convertible features, like its forbearers, everything that's great about the hardtop variant while adding an unlimited amount of head room. That means the same 3.0-liter, 425-horsepower, 406-pound-foot, twin-turbocharged straight six sits under its domed hood, while either a six-speed stick or a seven-speed M dual-clutch transmission dispatches power to the fat rear tires.
As for specific differences between the hardtop and the new convertible, obviously, the droptop is heavier. A lot heavier. Where an M4 with a six-speed manual tips the scales at 3,530 pounds, the M4 Convertible weighs in at 4,055 pounds. Believe it or not, BMW has actually trimmed 90 pounds from the last-generation M3 convertible, code-named E93. This marginal weight reduction from the third-generation convertible to the fourth is barely half of the 174 pounds BMW was able to subtract when transitioning from M3 Coupe to M4 Coupe.

Recharge Wrap-up: Nissan and Endesa launch V2G project; BMW denies Apple will use i3

Fri, Mar 6 2015

Nissan and Endesa will work together to deliver a mass-market vehicle-to-grid (V2G) system. The technology would allow users to charge their vehicle during off-peak hours, and sell energy back to the grid during periods of high demand. The two companies are looking to launch V2G technology in Europe, as well as exploring second-life projects using retired EV batteries for stationary energy storage. V2G allows users to lower the cost of ownership of their EV, and also helps stabilize the grid, particularly in countries that use a large amount of renewable energy. Endesa will demonstrate its V2G technology system in Madrid on March 12. Read more from Nissan. BMW denies reports that Apple will build a car based on the i3. German magazine Auto Motor und Sport said that such a deal was in the works, and that the Apple car could be sold by Apple and serviced by BMW. "We are in regular talks with companies from the IT and telecommunications sector, including Apple, concerning topics like connected vehicles," says BMW. "Developing or building a car is not a topic of these discussions." Anonymous sources say that Apple could have a car available for production in 2020. Read more at Automotive News Europe. BluepointLondon will take over the management of 60 EV charging stations from Transport for London. The 60 chargers are in the boroughs of Southwark and Sutton, and Bluepoint expects to take over management of charging infrastructure in other London boroughs as well. "A better maintained and more extensive charging infrastructure will mean more drivers are able to use electric vehicles and join the early-adopters who are already helping London reach lower emissions level," says BluepointLondon Director Christophe Arnaud. "We are very excited to be playing our part." BluepointLondon aims to manage 6,000 charging points in London by 2018. Read more in the press release below. Efficient Drivetrains, Inc. (EDI) offers plug-in hybrid conversions for GM light-duty trucks. The PHEV drivetrain offers all the performance of the original model, but reduces consumption and emissions by as much as 80 percent. It offers 30 to 40 miles of all-electric range plus enough energy to act as an idle-free power supply for tools and the like without depleting range. The EDI drivetrain can even be used to charge other EVs. Says EDI's Charlie Travis, "The light duty truck class is an important and high-volume vehicle category for fleet owners.

BMW begins restoring Elvis Presley's 507 [w/video]

Thu, 24 Jul 2014

Imagine the King of Rock n' Roll driving a car and you'll likely picture a pink Cadillac or a yellow De Tomaso shot full of holes. But Elvis also owned a 1957 BMW 507 roadster, and now that roadster is returning home to BMW headquarters.
The 507 was a rare bird, of which only 254 examples were ever made. They were sold mostly to celebrities and royalty, but Elvis Presley was a GI when he bought it while stationed in Germany. The example that he bought had been displayed at the Frankfurt Motor Show, used as a press car and raced by Hans Stuck (which is how Elvis came to see it in the first place), so when he took delivery of it second-hand, the dealership had a new engine installed. It was originally white, but legend has it that Elvis got tired of women writing their phone numbers on the side of it in lipstick that he had it repainted in red.
Stories differ on what exactly happened to it next, with some saying that he returned it once the lease was up and other saying that the army shipped it back to him in the States after his tour was over. But what we do know is that the car sat for many years, neglected but sheltered from the elements. Now it's heading to the the BMW Museum in Munich, where it will be on display until August 10, after which the BMW Group Classic department will undertake a comprehensive restoration of the star-studded roadster that's expected to take two years of work.
