1973 Fjord Blue Roundie BMW 2002 Sunroof

A very nice original Fjord Blue BMW 2002 nicely updated   We acquired this Fjord Blue Roundie nicely preserved but needing a new drive train.   After installing engine, 4 speed we then proceeded to redo sunroof cables, install new headliner, new black carpet, sound deadening and a nice well preseved OEM buckskin tan interior.   Car has upgraded 14 inch BBS style wheels with new tires.       

 

Body and Appearance Upgrades

·         Car had good recent repaint on it when we purchased but hood had been repainted later and did not quite match.  So we repainted 90% of car with new PPG clear coat with euro clear.   Paint is not flawless but very nice

·         Original bumpers detailed and polished .  Bumpers are decent but not perfect.   We have rechromed bumpers available if want perfect

·         New door stop  checks and pins

·         Good original belt molding all around car.   Some minor imperfections but a good A-

·         New trunk boards covered in matching euro vinyl to interior

·         Lower body molding recondition and attached with new OEM clips

·         Bottom of car solid steel.  One small portion of floor pan had corrosion was completely cut out removed and coated in undercoat rest of floor power washed and detailed

·         New OEM roundels, badges, wheel cap roundels

·         New OEM rubber in doors

·         Front grills polished and reconditioned nice shape

·         OEM flag stainless rear view mirror installed

Functional Upgrades and Preventive maintenance

·         New LED rear brake light installed

·         All electrical working (turn signals, lights, switches etc.)

·         New load Bill Bad horn

·         All gear oil drained and replaced with synthetic oil.  Upgraded 4 speed from a Tii

·         Engine detailed tested, tuned all new peripherals (alternator, water pump, ignition wear items, brake booster etc)

·         14 inch new tires

·         14 inch BBS style wheels in gold and silver  (not we can paint all silver or other)

·         New brakes all around car, calipers, pads, brake hoses, drums, emergency brake cables, shoes etc.

·         All steering components checked for tight fit or replaced,  New ball joints, repacked wheel bearings or replaced on all 4 wheels

·         Shifter bushings check and replaced to give crisp shifter feel

Engine upgrades

·         Rebuilt cylinder head installed.  Engine runs great, , no smoking... runs clean nice power with Weber 38 carb

·         New plugs, tune-up, fresh oil and filter, fresh battery

·         All new peripheral (alternator, voltage regulator, water pump, ignition, plug wires, new Weber 38 carb , etc

·         Engine bay detailed with paint updated while engine was out of car

·         Original radiator works well (could be a candidate for upgrade to 320i radiator)

·         Original AC car has AC crank pulley on engine  (we can install complete AC system if interested for low cost)

·         Heater box reconditioned working Bosch fan motor, heater valve working etc.

·         New clutch throw out bearing with reconditioned clutch pressure plate and friction disc

 

Interior upgrades

·         OEM steering wheel

·         Original interior seats and door panels in buckskin tan.  Have been redied to clean up … no tears or rips, foam in nice shape appears to have been redone

·         Door panels in matching vinyl

·         Instrument cluster redone with LED lighting (all works but speedomenter)   Working on repairing

·         Dash in nice shape… see pictures.  No visible cracks and only a couple minor inperfections

·         Period correct stereo with new custom 5.5 inch speakers installed under rear seat.  New stereo head unit can be installed at new owners request

·         New black 13 piece carpet set

·         Aluminized sound deadening and modern sound deadening carpet pad installed throughout car

·         Refurbished sunroof cables reinstalled, lubricated and roof works as it should smoothly and reliably

·         New OEM white sunroof headliner installed  (big job)

 

Additional Work at your Request

Apple Watch watches your BMW i3, i8

Apple unveiled details about its long-awaited Apple Watch yesterday and we now know that the $349, er, watch will be released to the public early next year. Amid the millions of features the watch has is the ability to provide real-time information on the battery charge level in a BMW i3 or i8 plug-in vehicle. The watches can also help locate the vehicles if, say, they're parked in a crowded lot. Because so many of us lose our Bimmers on a daily basis. BMW spokesman Dave Buchko confirmed the integration of the Bimmer-centric features on Apple Watch to AutoblogGreen, and noted that the product will let users monitor heating and air-conditioning as well as remotely unlocking the car. "This latest device has the potential to change how owners interact with their BMW, paving the way for a new level of personalization and immediacy," Buchko said. The new wrist-based connection allows for a nice bit of exposure for the German company's new i series. As of the end of last month, BMW had sold 2,082 i3 battery-electric vehicles in the US since starting domestic sales in May. It also sold nine of i8 plug-in hybrids in August, the first partial month for US sales.

BMW doubles i8 production to meet demand

They're not exactly Ford F-150 pickup truck numbers, but global sales of the BMW i8 plug-in hybrid are spurring the German automaker to step up the supercar's pace of production. As rumored, Bimmer, which has been pretty happy with sales of its i3 electric vehicle, is going to double the production pace of the i8. BMW's Germany factory will now put out about 20 i8 vehicles a day, Automotive News Europe says. That should cut down the wait time for the model, which started sales in both Europe last June and in the US two months later. Right now, buyers have to wait about four months to get their i8 plug-in vehicles, Automotive News Europe says, citing German outlet Automobil Produktion. Given that the cars retail for $135,000, we suspect these are people who probably aren't accustomed to wait for much. In January, BMW said that it sold almost 18,000 i3 and i8 plug-in vehicles last year globally, with about a third of those going to the US. Specifically, BMW moved 555 units of the i8 last year (and the vehicle was really only available for about five months) and another 198 through February. Through February, Bimmer also moved 1,759 units of the i3. Zombie cars: Discontinued vehicles that aren't dead yet

Car models come and go, but as revealed by monthly sales data, once a car is discontinued, it doesn't just disappear instantly. And in the case of some models, vanishing into obscurity can be a slow, tedious process. That's the case with the 12 cars we have here. All of them have been discontinued, but car companies keep racking up "new" sales with them. There are actually more discontinued cars that are still registering new sales than what we decided to include here. We kept this list to the oldest or otherwise most interesting vehicles still being sold as new, including a supercar. We'll run the list in alphabetical order, starting with *drumroll* ... BMW 6 Series: 55 total sales BMW quietly removed the 6 Series from the U.S. market during the 2019 model year. It had been available in three configurations, a hardtop coupe, a convertible and a sleek four-door coupe-like shape.   BMW i8: 18 total sales We've always had a soft spot for the BMW i8, despite the fact that it never quite fit into a particular category. It was sporty, but nowhere near as fast as similarly-priced competitors. It looked very high-tech and boasted a unique carbon fiber chassis design and a plug-in hybrid powertrain, but wasn't really designed for maximum efficiency or maximum performance. Still, the in-betweener was very cool to look at and drive, and 18 buyers took one home over the course of 2021.   Chevy Impala: 750 total sales The Impala represented classic American tastes at a time when American tastes were shifting away from soft-riding sedans with big interior room and trunk space and into higher-riding crossovers. A total of 750 sales were inked last year.   Chrysler 200: 15 total sales The Chrysler 200 was actually a pretty nice sedan, with good looks and decent driving dynamics let down by a lack of roominess, particularly in the back seat. Of course, as we said regarding the Chevy Impala, the number of Americans in the market for sedans is rapidly winding down, and other automakers are following Chrysler's footsteps in canceling their slow-selling four-doors. Even if Chrysler never really found its footing in the ultra-competitive midsize sedan segment, apparently dealerships have a few leftover 2017 200s floating around. And for some reason, 15 buyers decided to sign the dotted line to take one of these aging sedans home last year.
