Up for auction is a well cared for 1971 BMW 2002. The exterior is White and the interior is Black. This is a very nice driving and looking 2002.

These BMW 2002s have become more and more desirable in the last couple of years. Seems to be on most car enthusiasts "bucket lists". If you are one of these buyers, you don't want to miss out on this one. Paint is in great condition. My recent add on of the front spoiler is slightly chipping but can be easily repainted.
As you will see from my photos, the seats (front and back) are in mint condition. I replaced the carpeting in the car so that is brand new. The dash is in great condition but has a very small hairline crack. Not worth replacing. There is also a small dent in the back above the rear bumper (see pics). The engine runs smooth and is very reliable. I believe it was rebuilt several years ago.

Please note that this car is not perfect and is in fact 43 years old! On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being perfect I would rate this car an 8.

Since I've owned this car I've done the following:
  • BMW Carpet Kit
  • OEM BMW Floor Mats
  • ProtoTipo Steering Wheel
  • Vintage Auto Sound Radio
  • Bilstein HD Shocks
  • H&R Lowering Springs
  • Restored Fuel Tank
  • New OEM Radiator
  • New thermostat and water pump
  • New Spark plug wires and plugs
  • Tii Distributor
  • New battery relocated to trunk
  • New Trunk Boards
  • New Weber carb and electric fuel pump
  • New Ireland Engineering Ceramic coated header
  • Ireland Engineering Stainless steel exhaust
  • New Panasport Wheels
  • Turbo rear spoiler
  • Fully restored gas tank (<1 month ago)
  • Falken tires with less than 500 miles on them
  • Rebuilt Brake Calipers
Please email me with any questions.

Inspections are welcome so please contact me if you would like to come take a look.

Apple Watch watches your BMW i3, i8

Wed, Sep 10 2014

Apple unveiled details about its long-awaited Apple Watch yesterday and we now know that the $349, er, watch will be released to the public early next year. Amid the millions of features the watch has is the ability to provide real-time information on the battery charge level in a BMW i3 or i8 plug-in vehicle. The watches can also help locate the vehicles if, say, they're parked in a crowded lot. Because so many of us lose our Bimmers on a daily basis. BMW spokesman Dave Buchko confirmed the integration of the Bimmer-centric features on Apple Watch to AutoblogGreen, and noted that the product will let users monitor heating and air-conditioning as well as remotely unlocking the car. "This latest device has the potential to change how owners interact with their BMW, paving the way for a new level of personalization and immediacy," Buchko said. The new wrist-based connection allows for a nice bit of exposure for the German company's new i series. As of the end of last month, BMW had sold 2,082 i3 battery-electric vehicles in the US since starting domestic sales in May. It also sold nine of i8 plug-in hybrids in August, the first partial month for US sales.

NHTSA slaps BMW with $40M fine for slow Mini recall

Thu, Dec 24 2015

BMW is on the hook for a $40-million fine after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration slapped the automaker over not recalling Minis that failed to meet minimum side-impact crash standards. The civil penalty from NHTSA concerns 2014 and 2015 Mini Cooper hatchback models that "failed a crash test designed to determine whether the vehicle met crash-protection minimums," the government agency said in a press release issued this week. An October 2014 test revealed the first problem, and the Mini was subsequently retested in July, only to fail again and finally prompt a recall of more than 30,000 cars. But according to NHTSA's investigation that was opened in October, BMW waited too long to issue a recall after it knew the cars did not meet standards and bring them into compliance with more energy-absorbing materials installed by Mini dealers. This is the second time NHTSA slapped BMW with a major penalty, following a $3-million fine back in 2012 failing to report recalls of its cars and motorcycles. "For the second time in three years, BMW has been penalized for failing to meet that obligation," NHTSA Administrator Mark Rosekind said in the release. "The company must take this opportunity to reform its procedures and its culture to put safety where it belongs: at the top of its priority list." In a separate release issued this week, BMW Group said it, "is committed to further improving its recall processes to better serve its customers," and that the company, "respects the role of NHTSA and looks forward to working with them to develop solutions for the future." National Highway Traffic Safety Administration fines BMW $40 million for failing to meet safety requirements Fine is auto company's second since 2012 WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has imposed a $40 million civil penalty and a series of performance requirements to automaker BMW North America for a series of violations of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act and NHTSA regulations. Under terms of a Consent Order issued to BMW, the company acknowledges that it violated requirements to issue a timely recall of vehicles that did not comply with minimum crash protection standards, to notify owners of recalls in a timely fashion, and to provide accurate information about its recalls to NHTSA. NHTSA imposed a $3 million civil penalty to BMW in 2012 for similar violations.

BMW Vision Gran Turismo takes M235i Racing to the virtual extreme [w/videos]

Wed, 14 May 2014

Late last year, Mercedes-AMG worked up a concept car called the Vision Gran Turismo. It presented it at the Los Angeles Auto Show, but that wasn't the point: the point was that it would feature in Gran Turismo 6 on the PlayStation 3. It wasn't the first concept created specifically for the popular driving simulator - following similar projects by Citroën and Red Bull Racing - and as we reported just a month later, it wouldn't be the last. What we have here is the next.
Looking like an even more extreme version of the M235i Racing, the BMW Vision Gran Turismo concept builds on "the tradition of the successful BMW touring cars of the 1970s" in a heart-pumping, if unfortunately strictly virtual form. It's got more extreme aero than the aforementioned M235i Racing and a striking take on the M division's signature light blue, dark blue and red stripe over white livery.
Underneath the digital bonnet sits the same 3.0-liter inline six as the M235i, but pumping out a prodigious (if theoretical) 549 horsepower - far more than the 333 hp in the actual Racing version or the 320 hp in the roadgoing model. Of course BMW has given it an ideal 50:50 front-rear weight distribution and a curb weight of 2,600 lbs - nearly a thousand pounds less than the roadgoing M235i.
