I have listed my highly desirable Chamonix White 1971 BMW 2002 with its original Black Interior. I purchased this car from a gentlemen in South Carolina about a year ago. Before I acquired this "roundie", the car was restored in Colorado in 2001. I bought this car site unseen and relied solely on internet photos. I took the past year to add the necessary alterations to the vehicle. I kept this car completely original but added some unique add-ons for additional improvement to the driving experience. This car has been an incredible project and I will be sad to see it go. I hope it only goes to a good home and with that said, please ONLY serious bidders and inquiries!!

These BMW 2002s have become more and more desirable in the last couple of years. Seems to be on most car enthusiasts "bucket lists". If you are one of these buyers, you don't want to miss out on this one. Paint is in great condition. My recent add on of the front spoiler is slightly chipping but can be easily repainted.
As you will see from my photos, the seats (front and back) are in mint condition. I replaced the carpeting in the car so that is brand new. The dash is in great condition but has a very small hairline crack. Not worth replacing.

Since I've owned this car I've done the following within the last few months:
  • BMW Carpet Kit
  • Dyno Matted the Floors
  • OEM BMW Floor Mats
  • ProtoTipo Steering Wheel
  • Vintage Auto Sound Radio
  • Bilstein HD Shocks
  • H&R Lowering Springs
  • Restored Fuel Tank
  • New OEM Radiator
  • New thermostat and water pump
  • New Spark plug wires and plugs
  • Tii Distributor
  • New battery relocated to trunk
  • New Trunk Boards
  • New Weber carb and electric fuel pump
  • New Ireland Engineering Ceramic coated header
  • Ireland Engineering Stainless steel exhaust
  • New Panasport Wheels
  • Turbo rear spoiler
  • Fully restored gas tank (<1 month ago)
  • Falken tires with less than 500 miles on them
Please email me with any questions.

This little BMW runs, drives and handles great. I've had my time playing with this beauty, even brought it to a couple fun car shows which I've gotten a ton of compliments at. On nice days, I have even taken this car to work and back which is about 40 miles each way! I've NEVER gotten stuck and never had any issues during travel.

I encourage inspections, so please contact me if you would like to come take a look. Again, only serious bidders! I know this car has been in great hands for its lifetime and I don't want it to move to anyone but a great enthusiast who will enjoy it just as much as I did!

Buyer is responsible for shipping costs.  Happy Bidding :)

Child cobalt miners: Automakers pledge ethical minerals sourcing for EVs

Wed, Nov 29 2017

BERLIN - Leading carmakers including Volkswagen and Toyota pledged on Wednesday to uphold ethical and socially responsible standards in their purchases of minerals for an expected boom in electric vehicle production. Demand for minerals such as cobalt, graphite and lithium is forecast to soar in the coming years as governments crack down on vehicle pollution and carmakers step up their investments in electric models. To cover its plans for more than 80 new models by 2025, Volkswagen alone is looking for partners in China, Europe and North America to provide battery cells and related technology worth more than 50 billion euros ($59 billion). Talks with major cobalt producers, including Glencore, at VW's Wolfsburg headquarters last week ended without a deal. More than half of the world's cobalt comes from the Democratic Republic of Congo, a country racked by political instability and legal opacity, and where child labor is used in mines. On Wednesday, a group of 10 leading passenger-car and truck manufacturers announced an initiative to jointly identify and address ethical, environmental, human and labor rights issues in raw materials sourcing. The partnership dubbed "Drive Sustainability" consists of VW, Toyota Motor Europe, Ford, Daimler, BMW, Honda, Jaguar Land Rover, Volvo Cars and truckmakers Scania and Volvo. The alliance "will assess the risks posed by the top raw materials (such as mica, cobalt, rubber and leather) in the automotive sector," said Stefan Crets of the CSR Europe business network. "This will allow Drive Sustainability to identify the most impactful activities to pursue" to address issues within the supply chain.Reporting by Andreas Cremer.Related Video: Image Credit: Michael Robinson Chavez/The Washington Post via Getty Images Green BMW Ford Honda Jaguar Land Rover Mercedes-Benz Automakers Toyota Volkswagen Volvo Green Automakers Green Culture Electric Scania ethics mining

Electric living with a BMW i3

Fri, Sep 25 2015

Rarely in the 27-plus years I've been testing and writing about cars has any vehicle changed this much from my initial impression until I was later able to spend more time in one. Nearly two years ago, I got a brief test drive of the then-new BMW i3 EV on a selection of both flat and hilly, curvy roads west of Los Angeles the day before LA Auto Show press days. My impressions at the time were mixed: polarizing exterior and interior designs but roomy, easily accessible rear cabin; great twisty road handling but somewhat brittle rough-road ride; good performance but annoyingly strong (always on) regenerative braking. And there was no opportunity to test one with the optional range-extender (which BMW calls a "REx") engine. So I wanted an extended experience in a REx-equipped i3, and recently got one. And, I'm here to report that, driving it for a week like I owned it, the quirky i3 soon won me over. The quirky i3 soon won me over. The $42,400 BMW EV's unique, lightweight "LifeDrive" architecture features a Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) passenger cell on an all-aluminum chassis. Powered by a 22-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, its 170-hp AC synchronous motor spins out a healthy 184-pound-feet of torque through a single-speed transmission and offers three drive modes: Comfort, Eco Pro (which BMW says adds roughly 12 percent of range) and Eco Pro+ (another 12 percent). The optional rear-mounted 647 cc (0.65-liter) in-line 2-cylinder REx engine drives an electric generator, never the wheels. It increases the sticker price to $46,250 and curb weight from 2,860 pounds to 3,130 lb., and that 270-lb. weight penalty reduces its electric-only range from 81 to 72 miles and EPA-rated combined (gas-equivalent) fuel economy from 124 to 117 MPGe, and slows its 0-60-mph acceleration from 7.0 to 7.8 sec. But it nearly doubles the i3's official EPA-rated total range from an EV-only 81 miles to an EV-plus-gasoline 150 miles. The i3 arrived (from roughly 90 miles away) with its battery depleted but an indicated 75 miles of gas-powered range remaining. Wanting to experience it REx-only at first, I drove it on a 9.6-mile local trip and found little difference in sound or performance from what I recalled from that California battery-only test drive. When I returned home, however, the indicated gas range was just 55 miles, so I had used 20 miles of projected range in less than 10 local miles. My initial impressions were good, with a few quibbles.

2015 BMW X4 is a budget X6

Wed, 16 Apr 2014

We won't argue that crossovers are hugely successful vehicles, with automakers working to provide functional CUVs in a wide range of sizes. But over at BMW, things are just getting out of hand, as evidenced by this new X4 "Sports Activity Coupe" that debuts here at the 2014 New York Auto Show.
BMW is seeing fit to offer vehicles in even the most niche of niches, and the X4 is no exception. Want proof? Have a look at the X4, and the compare it to the X3, the 3 Series Gran Turismo, the 3 Series Sport Wagon, and the 4 Series Gran Coupe. Aside from marginal differences in things like ground clearance and the exact slope of the hatchback, what, exactly, is the difference?
Like the other models we just mentioned, the X4 is powered by either a 2.0-liter turbo-four with 240 horsepower or a more powerful, 3.0-liter turbo-six with 300 horsepower, and unsurprisingly, power is sent to the ground exclusively via the company's xDrive all-wheel-drive system. An eight-speed automatic transmission is the sole gearbox available with either engine. All sounds very familiar, right?
