I am selling my 1968 BMW 2002. My understanding is this was the first year of the 2002. This car has no rust. It was originally white, but I really liked the orange so that's what I went with. The car is solid, runs and drives good, has original engine with single weber carb. The paint looks good, but is not perfect and is now about 5-6 years old. The windows all work, the seals are all good. The front seats need redone, the carpet was new 5-6 years ago and still looks good. Headliner was replaced and also looks good. I never got around to putting the sunvisors back in, but I will include them. The dash has a few cracks in it and it has a later model gauge set, with an early speedo, which works. The Tach recently stopped working, but I will include a correct style gauge set with correct housing with a tach that did work. I changed it because the speedo in the correct style did not work. Engine had the head rebuilt along with new piston rings installed about 3 years ago. The engine is original and matches the vin number. It has a noise when first started, but the noise goes away as the engine warms up. I drive to work (80 miles one way) and have never had an issue with it. The clutch has less than 5000 miles on it and works great. The transmission was rebuilt and has less than 5000 miles on it as well. The suspension was updated with poly bushings everywhere along with new lower control arms, ball joints and KYB shocks. It has some harder to find (I don't like the word rare) wheels on it and will need some times. There is no rust that I am aware of and the only damage to the car is the rear valance below the bumper (someone cut it for a center exit muffler sometime in the past) and the hold down for the spare time is missing. Otherwise it is good. Glass is all good, seals all good. Brakes are good. Please check my feedback. I have sold many cars on ebay and have always been up front and honest about them. This car is no exception. I will have this car for sale locally as well, so I reserve the right to end this acution at anytime. There are no warranties on the car, implied or otherwise. Once you buy it, you own it. I suggest coming to see it before you bid. The deposit is non-refundable, so please make sure you want the car. Also make sure you ask whomever you need to ask before bidding as I make every effort to make every transaction smooth and I would like the same consideration. I am putting it up without a reserve, but once again it is for sale locally, so I will end the auction at anytime if I get an offer I believe is worth it. Finally, I have enjoyed this car. It gets looks everywhere it goes and I can't even remember how many people have asked if I would sell it. It is, once again I believe, a first year 2002. I understand there were 1967 1600's,, but this is not a 1600, it's a 2002. Also, if you have any questions please feel free to ask. I will do my best to answer them. Thanks for looking. |

Jay Leno puts focus on some retro-inspired BMW bikes
Mon, 28 Jul 2014Jay Leno puts eight wheels on display this week for Jay Leno's Garage from a quartet of retro-inspired BMW motorcycles. They are the creations of husband and wife team Larry and Carol Romestant, who build each one in their home garage.
Larry is a former aerospace engineer who loves BMW bikes, especially the K models. Now, he's combining his passion with a real talent for fabrication to build his own cycles with his wife. With Larry and Carol the only ones working on these projects, it takes them six to nine months to build each one. In addition to the old-school looks, the motorcycles are supposed to be a bit more user friendly than stock. For example, one of them ditches the standard five-speed gearbox in favor of a six-speed unit to be a little more comfy when cruising at high speeds.
Since there isn't enough time to take all four of them for a ride, Jay picks his favorite to test out on the open road. Scroll down to see which one he chooses.
Recharge Wrap-up: New Mitsubishi Evo PHEV, Amsterdam buses go all electric by 2025
Thu, Apr 30 2015Mitsubishi hopes to launch a new vehicle badged as the Evo based on the Concept XR-PHEV II. Mitsubishi President and COO Tetsuro Aikawa tells Autocar the new vehicle will share characteristics with the outgoing Lancer Evolution loved by enthusiasts, but will feature a plug-in hybrid powertrain in the body of a compact crossover. "In Japanese, when you pronounce 'Oh,' it means 'king,'" says Aikawa. "So we would like to launch this type of car, featuring EV and PHEV technology, which is the ultimate of its kind. 'EV' for electric vehicle, 'O' for king - Evo." The Mitsu boss also envisions the four-wheel-drive Evo to be "light and fast - something performance-oriented." Read more at Autocar, or at Hybrid Cars. Amsterdam aims to have all its buses running on electric power by 2025. Within two years, the city will have 40 electric buses in operation, and will phase out the rest of the diesel fleet in the following years. "This project means we are saying goodbye to symbolic behavior and pilot projects," says transport alderman Abdeluheb Choho. "We have decided to just do it, not to experiment with five buses." Read more at Clean Technica. BMW and General Motors are both listed in the top five US organizations generating and using green energy onsite. In an EPA list, BMW's Spartanburg, South Carolina manufacturing facility is number four, with credit going to its use of landfill gas. In 2013, 69,383,477 kWh - or 37 percent of its total usage - came from green energy. GM's Fort Wayne Assembly was number five, with 43 percent of its power coming from methane from a nearby landfill. Volkwsagen also made the Top 30 list, at number 15, for its Chattanooga assembly plant's use of solar power. See the EPA's full list, and read more at Green Car Congress. Volkswagen will release its 2014 sustainability report on Twitter on Monday, May 4. It will be the first step in using the social medium to distribute information on economic, environmental and social sustainability to a larger audience. The report will include a section called "Electrifying China with a tailor-made efficiency strategy," which focuses on reducing CO2 emissions through the use of electric vehicles. Volkswagen has already begun releasing highlights from its report on its Twitter account with the hashtag #VWCSR. Read more in the press release below and, of course, on Twitter next week.
Editors' Picks June 2024: Some German SUVs and an excellent sports car
Fri, Jul 5 2024This month sees some recently-refreshed luxury SUVs join the list of Editors' Picks. Both the BMW X5 and Porsche Cayenne are fresh for 2024, and both are extremely tempting luxury performance SUVs for the well-off buyer. The vast array of powertrains available for both of them ensure there's a version for all comers, and any enthusiast would adore the extra-high-performance versions of both. Of course, enthusiasts will enjoy the last car on this month's list the most with the Lotus Emira. It's simply spectacular to drive, and we can't recommend it enough to the hardcore driver. In case you missed previous Editors' Picks posts, here’s a quick refresher on whatÂ’s going on here. We rate all the new cars we drive with a 1-10 score. Cars that are exemplary in their respective segments get an EditorsÂ’ Pick designation. Those are the ones weÂ’d recommend to our friends, family and anybody whoÂ’s curious and asks the question. You'll find the entire list of Editors' Picks at this link here, which we keep updated as cars are either added or dropped from the list. The vehicles youÂ’ll find below consist of every car we rated in June that earned an EditorsÂ’ Pick. 2024 BMW X5 2024 BMW X5 M Competition View 41 Photos Quick take: The X5 is most desirable in its PHEV and M60i V8 trims, but the whole lineup is extremely competent and brings together excellent performance, excess luxury and cutting-edge tech for its segment. Score: 7.5 What it competes with: Mercedes-Benz GLE, Porsche Cayenne, Range Rover Sport, Maserati Levante, Genesis GV80, Audi Q8 Pros: Superb to drive with knockout powertrains; excellent utility and creative features; styling is sporty and attractive but not over the top Cons: Infotainment system can be a pain; M Competition model is a little over the top; gets pricey quick with options From the editors: Senior Editor, Electric John Beltz Snyder — "I really like the dual-opening liftgate/tailgate combo. The liftgate portion up top opens quickly, allowing you to throw something inside or grab something out of the back. Flipping down the lower tailgate part gives you a nice place to sit and change shoes. Another benefit is that you can open the liftgate without unsecured items immediately falling out. And with the way the X5 M Competition encourages you to drive it hard, you will end up shifting loose cargo around at some point." Road Test Editor Zac Palmer — "I'd snag the X5 M60i out of all the various X5 variants.
