Chevy showcases four concepts at Sao Paul
Wed, 29 Oct 2014Chevrolet has rolled in to Sao Paulo this year with not one, not two, but four new concept cars. Only by concept cars, in this case we mean concept versions of existing production models.
Arguably the most exciting among them is the Onix Track Day concept. It's based on the Onix hatchback which GM offers exclusively in Latin America (not to be confused with the Peugeot Onyx concept). This Onix has been upgraded with a full aero kit, enhanced interior equipment and a 1.8-liter Ecotec engine with optimized ECU and stainless steel exhaust to churn out over 150 horsepower – which may not seem like much, but is far more than the hundred-odd hp offered in stock trim. It's joined by a second version called the Onix Effect that also gets a sporty (if more restrained) look.
Alongside the pair of Onix concepts, Chevy is also showcasing a pickup called the S-10 High Country that applies a similar treatment available on the larger Silverado High Country but to the overseas Colorado (which carries the old S-10 moniker in South America). Finally there's a subtly upgraded version of the Cobalt sedan on show as well, and you can scope out images of all four in the gallery above along with the original and translated press releases below.

SÃO CAETANO DO SUL - Demonstração do potencial criativo dos fabricantes, os carros-conceito sempre são um show à parte em qualquer evento do setor. Para a 28ª edição do Salão Internacional do Automóvel de São Paulo, a Chevrolet preparou quatro protótipos que prometem chamar a atenção dos visitantes.
S10 High Country
A "grife" High Country é famosa em modelos Chevrolet nos Estados Unidos por ser sinônimo de utilitários superequipados e muito exclusivos. A equipe de designers da marca no Brasil resolveu aplicar o conceito à S10 nacional apenas como exercício criativo.
Antes de receber a chancela High Country, a picape ganhou uma série de itens, como faróis com visual em cromo escurecido, rodas de 18 polegadas com acabamento único, frisos cromados na base dos vidros das portas além de um exclusivo e robusto Santo Antonio, especialmente projetado para integrar à caçamba. A peça acompanha uma nova capota marítima.
"A grande peça tem função aerodinâmica e acaba elevando o perfil e a capacidade de carga da caçamba. Todas essas alterações criam a impressão de que o veículo é ainda maior", destaca o chefe de design da GM América do Sul.
O interior do conceito é baseado no da Trailblazer 2015, que inovou ao usar forração do couro em dois tons, com o Brownstone predominante e costura pespontada. Os acabamentos do painel também são em preto brilhante, agregando mais sofisticação à cabine.
A S10 High Country aparece no Salão Internacional do Automóvel de São Paulo na cor vermelha metálica batizada de Chili Red.
Onix Track Day
Baseado em modelos preparados para rodar em pistas, o Onix Track Day traz novo visual e muita performance. A começar pela mecânica: suspensão, motor, freios e sistema de exaustão foram completamente modificados em relação ao modelo de fábrica.
O propulsor é o Ecotec 1.8 Flex do Cruze 2015, que somado ao novo escapamento 100% em aço inox, filtro de ar de alto fluxo e uma recalibração na injeção eletrônica fazem a potência ultrapassar os 150 cv.
Destaque também para os pneus 215/45R17 de compostos mais macios, que contribuem para uma maior aderência e segurança em curvas. As rodas de tala larga completam o pacote.
O aerofólio traseiro e os novos spoilers frontais contribuem para uma melhor aerodinâmica, além de contrastarem com a reluzente pintura amarela da carroceria, que recebeu ainda teto escuro e grafismos exclusivos.
O interior traz bancos tipo concha, volante "flat base" revestidos com materiais nobres, cintos de segurança de 4 pontas além de detalhes de acabamento exclusivos.
"Diferentemente da maioria dos protótipos para exibição em salões, esse é totalmente funcional e poderia ter chegado ao Anhembi rodando", diz Carlos Barba, diretor de design da GM América do Sul.
Onix Effect
O modelo é um conceito com uma proposta de visual esportivo e que compartilha o mesmo sobrenome da série especial pertencente a outros compactos comercializados pela Chevrolet no Brasil.
Por fora, o Onix Effect diferencia-se principalmente pelas rodas de 15 polegadas escuras, pelo pacote aerodinâmico que inclui saias e spoilers e pelos faróis e lanternas com detalhes "smoked".
Acabamento em preto brilhante cobrem o teto, a coluna B, a capa dos retrovisores externos e a moldura da grade frontal. A assinatura visual segue com adesivos no capô, nas laterais e na tampa traseira; tudo isso para contrastar com a pintura branca da carroceria.
Na parte interna, o protótipo traz volante multifuncional "flat base", acabamentos exclusivos em vermelho acetinado, carpetes com novo bordado e painel de instrumentos com grafismo alusivo à série.
O powertrain é o mesmo do Onix LTZ 1.4 manual, que desenvolve 106 cavalos.
Cobalt
O grande potencial de "acessorização" do Cobalt pode ser visto no modelo que a Chevrolet exibe do carro. O sedã compartilha as rodas de 16 polegadas do novo Spin Activ, porém, com um novo acabamento. Traz também a grade do radiador com moldura em dark chrome com detalhe em preto brilhante, assim como a base das janelas laterais.
Lanternas escurecidas, barra do parachoque traseiro igualmente em dark chrome e adesivos de coluna em preto high gloss sobre a exclusiva pintura "Glory Red" completam o visual.
Na parte interna, o conceito ganhou painel, portas e carpete na cor "Jet Black". Para acompanhar, os bancos receberam um revestimento em couro escuro com costuras e bordados em cinza claro, dando um toque especial de requinte e sofisticação ao conjunto.

Sao Caetano do Sul - Demonstration of creative potential manufacturers, concept cars are always a sideshow in any industry event. For the 28th edition of the International Motor Show in São Paulo, Chevrolet has prepared four prototypes that promise to draw the attention of visitors.
S10 High Country
The "designer" High Country is famous Chevrolet models in the United States for being synonymous with superequipados utilities and very unique. A team of designers of the brand in Brazil decided to apply the concept to the national S10 only as a creative exercise.
Before receiving the seal High Country, the truck won a number of items such as headlamps visually in darkened chrome 18-inch wheels with unique finish, chrome trim at the base of the door windows and a unique and robust Santo Antonio, especially designed to integrate the bucket. Onix Track Day
Based on models prepared to run on tracks, the Onix Track Day brings new look and plenty of performance. Beginning with the mechanical, suspension, engine brakes and exhaust system were completely modified from the factory model.
The propellant is the Ecotec 1.8 Flex Cruze 2015, which added to the new exhaust 100% stainless steel, high flow air filter and a recalibration in electronic fuel injection make the power exceed 150 hp.
Highlights also include tires 215 / 45R17 softer compounds, which contribute to enhanced grip and safety when cornering. The wheels of large splint complete the package.

Onix Effect
The model is a concept with a proposal for a sporty look and who shares the same last name of the special series belonging to other compact marketed by Chevrolet in Brazil.
On the outside, the Onix Effect differs mainly by dark 15-inch wheels, the aero package that includes skirts and spoilers and the headlights and taillights with details "smoked".
Glossy black finish covering the ceiling, column B, the cover of the external mirrors and the frame of the front grille. The visual signature follows with stickers on the hood, sides and tailgate; all this to contrast with the white paint of the bodywork.

Cobalt
