Bentley's 1,000th Mulliner project is a one-off purple Bentayga

Mon, Jul 12 2021

Bentley's Mulliner division completed its 1,000th project in July 2021, and the milestone car is one you can't miss unless you park it in a lavender field. It's a one-off Bentayga painted purple and fitted with special interior accents. It took seven years for Mulliner to reach this milestone; it formed its own design team in 2014. It designed the sweet potato-colored Bentayga for an anonymous client in Europe who worked closely with the division to create a one-of-a-kind SUV. Look beyond the exterior (or try, at least), and you'll see the cabin features Olive Ash wood trim, which is normally found in the now-retired Mulsanne, plus twin-stitching on the seats and on the door panels. Mulliner's work extends far beyond unusual paint colors and new stitching patterns. Its first project was bringing a limited-edition model named Flying Spur Serenity to life. The sedan received redesigned seats, among other features. It also developed stone veneers for some of Bentley's cars, a variant of the Mulsanne Speed named Blue Train that honors Bentley's racing heritage, a Mulsanne-based six-seater limousine, and the Bacalar roadster, which is limited to 12 examples worldwide. It's based on the Continental GT, but the two models share no body panels. It has also applied its expertise to a handful of unusual projects. For example, Mulliner sometimes helps design the liveries worn by Bentley's GT3 race cars. It fine-tuned details on the 1929 Team Blower continuation car, and its resume also includes creating scale models, sculptures, plus picnic baskets complete with silverware and glasses. 2021 Bentley Bentayga Hybrid revealed with tech improvements, same powertrain

Mon, Jan 4 2021

The 2021 Bentley Bentayga Hybrid is here, and it’s treated to the same round of updates as the rest of the refreshed Bentayga lineup. That means it gets the new exterior design, a thoroughly revised interior and plenty of new tech. Nothing on the powertrain side has changed for the plug-in hybrid Bentley. ItÂ’ll continue to make do with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 aided by an electric motor. Output remains the same at 443 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque combined. EPA range is not yet available, but given the 31-mile NEDC-tested range hasnÂ’t changed, we donÂ’t expect the 18-mile EPA-rated electric range to budge either. The biggest upgrade draw inside is the new 10.9-inch infotainment system. ItÂ’s the latest and best Bentley has to offer, and it features wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto. A wireless phone charger, new USB-C ports and a larger rear seat touchscreen remote tablet round out the best of the interior changes. ThereÂ’s more space for passengers in the rear. And Bentley upped its luxury game with a redesigned dash, instrument cluster (digital), door trims and steering wheel. The seats are re-done for even more comfort, too. Bentley hasnÂ’t detailed any fine tuning changes it may have made to the way the Bentayga Hybrid drives, but given our disappointing first drive a couple of years ago, we hope there are some unsung, under the hood improvements. The telltale sign that itÂ’s the PHEV is via the tiny “Hybrid” script on the lower door trim. Bentley says the updated Hybrid is available to order now, but we donÂ’t yet have a full breakdown of pricing. Expect it to maintain its status as the cheapest Bentley in the brandÂ’s lineup. Bentley's hosting a dog party — especially if your dog is named Bentley

Mon, May 1 2023

The following story illustrates why there'll always be an England: At the veddy British road circuit/estate called Goodwood two hours south of London, ultimate British car company Bentley will host … well, two dog-day afternoons celebrating dogs and their owners and featuring special treats for dogs named Â… well, Bentley.  The affair on May 20-21, described as “a grand celebration of all things dog,” is formally part of the annual "Goodwoof" festival. Owners of Bentleys (car or dog) will gain access to Bentley's VIP area, and a fleet of Bentayga luxury 4x4s will provide “extra bark and growl to a range of activities that will give dogs and their human friends a wonderful weekend – or a great Dane out.” Oof. So, all dogs are welcome, but itÂ’s more fun if you chauffeur your dog named Bentley to the party in a Bentley. Both driver and pet will be granted access to the Bentley Barking Paddock, a car park just for them with easy access to “The Kennels,” the West Sussex estateÂ’s central clubhouse. (Preferential parking alone may mean some dogs with other names will find themselves temporarily answering to "Bentley" that weekend.) The dogs will compete in some dog-ish contests. Humans will watch field and trail demonstrations and hear talks from dog experts and celebrity owners. Bentleys (the cars) will somehow play a role in herding competitions. Of course, thereÂ’ll be “plenty of treats for those on both two and four legs,” the organizers say. On the first day, a celebratory "parade of poodles," led by Goodwood's the Duke of Richmond, will take center stage on the estate grounds. Also planned is a display of doghouse architecture named, um, Barkitecture. And a photo booth will be set up in a Bentayaga for “pup-arazzi” souvenir pictures. Goodwoof benefits a British charity called Pets as Therapy.  ThereÂ’s more info for planning a trip here. Â
