2008 AUDI TT GENERAL INFO
| The all-new 2008 Audi TT is several inches longer and wider than the former TT, and much of this increase in size has been transferred to the interior. The TT is offered as both a coupe and a roadster. The roadster has a power-retracting soft convertible top along with styling to match its slightly different roofline. The soft top can open in just 12 seconds and can actually be operated at up to 25 mph.Two engines are offered on the TT. A 200-horsepower, 2.0L direct-injection four-cylinder engine is standard on the 2.0 T model, while 3.2 models get the 250-horsepower, 3.2L V6. 2.0 T models have front-wheel drive, while 3.2 models come with the quattro all-wheel-drive system. With the four-cylinder engine, the quick S tronic dual-clutch gearbox is standard. S tronic, which can function like a normal automatic transmission or be shifted manually without a clutch, can change gears in as little as 0.2 seconds. On V6 models, a six-speed manual transmission is also available. The new TT is built on the aluminum-alloy Audi Space Frame, which helps reduce weight; the bodyshell weighs only 308 pounds. When equipped with the S tronic, the 3.2 quattro is actually faster than with the manual transmission, reaching 60 miles per hour in only 5.5 seconds; the four-cylinder takes as little as 6.3 seconds. The all-wheel-drive system that comes with 3.2 quattro models sends 85 percent of engine torque to the front wheels for normal driving, but as needed it can send up to 100 percent to the back wheels. The TT's suspension has been completely redesigned and retuned versus the previous TT, and all models come with improved braking. On both models, in coupe or roadster form, a rear spoiler deploys at 75 mph and helps enhance stability.A notable option is Audi Magnetic Ride, which allows for multiple suspension modes; the system uses fluid that alters the suspension's stiffness depending on the voltage applied. Head and thorax side air bags and front knee air bags are standard. All TTs now come with automatic climate control, cruise control, a tilt/telescopic steering wheel, an automatic wind deflector, and a driver-information system. Several major packages are available, including an interior package with Nappa leather upholstery and trim, an audio package with an upgraded, 255-watt system, and an interior package that brings bright-colored schemes. Xenon headlamps with the adaptive cornering light function, to help with visibility on dark curvy roads, are also optional. Handsome 17-inch wheels are standard, but larger 18- and 19-inch alloys are available. An iPod interface is also now available.

Looking back at the week that just was clearly tells us at least three things. First, crossovers don't have to be boring. Second, people still love sports cars, from the attainable (Audi TT RS) to the fanciful (Mercedes-AMG GT C). And finally, the traditional German trio of premium luxury brands had better not rest on their laurels, because credible challengers are coming in from every direction. The biggest reveal of the week, at least judging by the interest of Autoblog readers, was the Volvo XC40. Not only is the little 'ute a looker, it introduces some innovative new buying/leasing schemes designed to appeal to an audience accustomed to trading in and trading up every couple of years. Think of Volvo's flat-fee lease as you would a smartphone contract, and you'll be on the right track. Genesis looks to have a hit on its hands in the form of the G70 sport sedan. We took a Korean-spec model for a spin and found a lot to like about the upstart contender. We can't wait to sample one here in the United States to see how it stacks up against the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. In other news, we're still really excited to see a production Ford Ranger Raptor. But if you just can't wait for the official reveal — it's OK, neither can we — take a look at the renderings in our post down below. As always, tune in to Autoblog next week for a front-row seat to all the happenings worth following in the automotive industry. Audi Group CEO Markus Duesmann  Even as the Audi Group (VOW.DE), VW’s luxury division, is in the midst of a huge EV transformation it still needs to perform where it counts — the bottom line. And so it is doing just that. On Thursday the Audi Group - which is dominated volume-wise by Audi, but also includes Bentley, Lamborghini, and Ducati - posted record revenue and operating profit in 2022. That shouldnÂ’t be a surprise given what the industry has been seeing at the highest end of the market - record performances despite macroeconomic jitters across the globe. But that it's happening as the group is noteworthy. “We are on the verge of the biggest product initiative in our history,” Audi Group CEO Markus Duesmann said at a news conference earlier on Thursday. “By 2025, we will have launched around 20 new models, more than 10 of which will be all-electric. We have set the course to go 100% electric. By 2027, we seek to offer an all-electric vehicle in each core segment.”  This is all part of Audi GroupÂ’s Vorsprung 2030 plan, which seeks to have all of the groupÂ’s new models be electric by 2026 — and to end traditional gas-powered engine production by 2033. To that end, the group saw EV deliveries jump 44% (in 2022) compared to 2021 to over 118,000 vehicles, with the share of EVs rising to 7.2% from 4.8% in the prior year. Audi is also launching its first EV using the PPE (premium platform electric), which was developed together with Porsche. That EV, the Audi Q6 e-tron, will be unveiled later this year. (Past Audi EVs shared corporate parent VWÂ’s electric platform.) “With the Audi Q6 e-tron, e-mobility is coming from Ingolstadt (Audi HQ) for the first time,” Duesmann said in a statement. “To this end, weÂ’re also building a dedicated battery assembly facility on site. This will enable us to retain important know-how here in Germany and train our employees in future fields.” AudiÂ’s German rivals of course are also leaning in hard on their EV transformations. That makes it all the more important that Audi get its EV strategy right—and launched in a timely manner.

Let's say you just got a big promotion at work or the kids are moving out of the house, and you finally have some extra money. You decide to blow it all at once and treat yourself by upgrading your ride. Naturally, you look to a luxury automaker. What do you choose?
Models like the Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class may be tailor-made to introduce buyers to the premium segment, but a new study finds that they don't garner the highest rates of non-luxury customer conquests. It turns out that a Volvo leads among folks moving up to a premium brand, and it isn't even one that's made anymore, at that.
A recent study by Polk and IHS Automotive looked at what models had the highest rates of buyers upgrading from a non-luxury segment. The information comes from its new vehicle registration data through April 2014. All ten top models boasted conquest rates of over 50 percent, but the Volvo C70 led the field with 68.01 percent of its customers coming from non-premium brands.
