Seller Summary:
This 2001 Audi TT Quattro 1.8-liter, 4-cylinder turbo engine is tuned to get 275-hp. The car has been driven with care and enjoyment, and for under 15K with 55K miles this car is priced to sell.
History of the TT:
Vehicle Overview
Audi leaped into the sports car league with a passion, turning from its usual sedans and wagons toward a surprisingly shapely, low-slung TT series. Anyone whose heads were turned by the curvaceous TT was likely to encounter a waiting list at the dealership due to prominent publicity and instant popularity of the new model. Audi recalled the TT in late 1999 after complaints in Germany about high-speed instability. Dealers then installed anti-roll bars and a rear spoiler on previously sold models.
Introduced in the spring of 1999 as a 2000 model, the TT front-drive 2+2 coupe was joined one year later by a two-passenger convertible roadster. Audi's Quattro all-wheel-drive system has been available on the TT since summer 2000. New for 2001 coupes is a 225-horsepower version of the standard turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine, which otherwise produces 180 hp. That engine debuted previously under roadster hoods.
A lateral-skid control system called the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) also has been added for 2001. TT coupes and convertibles ride a shortened version of the chassis used by the Audi A4 sedan, Volkswagen Golf, Jetta and New Beetle. But suspension tuning is different for the TT. Audi sold 12,027 coupes and roadsters during 2000, according to Automotive News.
Exterior
Despite its shared chassis and an overall profile that hints at the New Beetle, the TT flaunts unique rounded styling with an integrated, attention-grabbing appearance from stem to stern. Straight lines occur only along the sides of its body, between the front and rear wheels. The 225-hp models get 225/40YR17 tires vs. 205/55WR16 rubber for front-drive cars.
Quattro-equipped roadsters have a power top, while the front-drive convertibles get a manually operated fabric roof; power operation is an option for front-drive models. All convertibles have a power retractable glass wind blocker mounted between the structural roof bars, which are located behind the headrests. The wind blocker goes up when the top is down to reduce turbulence within the open TT's interior. Containing a glass back window with a defogger, the roadster's fabric top stows behind the seats.
Interior
Front occupants sit low to the ground in the TT, which makes it necessary to twist and turn when entering and exiting the coupe due to the sloping roof pillars. A backseat exists, but it's essentially a token space -- not seriously intended for use by passengers unless they happen to be children.
Standard equipment includes leather upholstery, automatic air conditioning, variable-assist power steering, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, cruise control, a theft-deterrent system, height-adjustable front bucket seats and a split, folding rear seat. Optional on the roadster is red amber leather with unique "baseball glove" stitching along the seams. Audi's navigation system, which lacks a video screen, is optional.
Under the Hood
An automatic transmission is not available with any TT. The base front-drive models come with a turbocharged, 180-hp, 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a five-speed-manual transmission. Choose a higher-performance model with the 225-hp engine and you get a six-speed instead. Audi's Quattro all-wheel-drive system is standard with the 225-hp engine and optional in coupes with the 180-hp engine. The lower-powered engine also is found in Audi's A4 sedan and in some Volkswagen models.
Safety
In addition to dual front airbags, all TT models have front head/chest side-impact airbags. All-disc antilock brakes are standard. Traction control is included in front-drive models, and a lateral-skid control system called Electronic Stability Program is standard on all models.

2015 will be the biggest year ever for cars at CES
Fri, Jan 2 2015Like the SEMA Show, major automakers are paying increasing attention to the CES, with 2015 expected to be one of the most auto focused yet. Ford, Volkswagen, Toyota, General Motors, Hyundai, Mazda, Audi, BMW and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will all be in attendance when CES 2015 kicks off next week, taking up a record-breaking 165,000 square feet of space at the Las Vegas Convention Center. "We've come a long way from a single car on a carpet," Ford's Alan Hall told Bloomberg. Unlike SEMA, or a more traditional auto show, like the upcoming festivities in Detroit, CES doesn't necessarily focus on entire cars or the way they perform, but on the way our technology will interact with vehicles, and in how those vehicles will deliver information to drivers. "CES has become a major launch point for a lot of the big automakers," IHS tech analyst Mark Boyadjis told Bloomberg. "CES is a way for them to get on a global stage for technology." As for what kind of wares automakers will trot out in Las Vegas, we already know that BMW will show off an autonomous i3 electric car that can navigate its way through a multistory car park and can be hailed via a smartwatch app. According to Bloomberg, Hyundai will show off its own smartwatch app for the Genesis sedan, while Audi and Mercedes-Benz will show off autonomous vehicles next week. Automakers won't be the only companies looking to capitalize on CES. Tech firms, like chipmaker Nvidia, are becoming increasingly involved in the automotive game and will be in town showing their wares off to OEMs. "Two years ago, our booth would have been filled with PCs and people playing video games," Danny Shapiro, Nvidia's senior director for automotive business, told Bloomberg. "This year we made a strategic decision to shift the focus of the booth on automotive and de-prioritize some of the other things." Needless to say, you can expect to see a lot of news out of Las Vegas come next week. Stay tuned. Audi Quattro tech shoots for the moon
Mon, Sep 28 2015Most automakers seem satisfied building vehicles to drive on the Earth's surface. But not Audi. The German automaker is quite literally shooting for the moon with the vehicle you see here. Called the Audi Lunar Quattro, it forms what promises to be an integral part of one team's campaign for the Google Lunar Xprize. That team calls itself Part-Time Scientists, and is the only German contingent of the 25 that originally entered from around the world and the 15 that are still in the race. Sponsored and technically assisted by Audi, the Lunar Quattro is a solar-powered moon rover. It packs an adjustable solar panel and a lithium-ion battery powering four individual hub motors – one in each wheel. It can only travel at a theoretical maximum of 2.2 miles per hour, but outright speed isn't the point here. It's been designed to traverse the difficult terrain of the moon's finely dusted and craggy surface. It'll need to travel at least 500 meters (1,640 feet) and will transmit high-definition video footage from the twin stereoscopic camera on its swiveling head back to Earth. The lunar rover is scheduled to be launched aboard a rocket from Earth to the moon by the end of 2017. The 240,000-mile trip will take five days and is targeted to land north of the moon's equator – close to the place where Apollo 17 (NASA's last manned lunar mission) landed back in 1972. Before that, though, it'll be presented by Audi sales chief Luca de Meo (who's since been named the head of Seat) at the Cannes Innovations Days forum. You can check it out in the gallery and extensive press release below, but first, we suggest you watch the video playlist above while preparing to check out tonight's red moon eclipse. The group of German engineers are working within the framework of the Google Lunar XPRIZE competition to transport an unmanned rover onto Earth's natural satellite. Audi is supporting the Part-Time Scientists with its know-how in several fields of technology – from quattro drive and lightweight construction to electric mobility and piloted driving. The moon rover will be named the "Audi lunar quattro." "The concept of a privately financed mission to the moon is fascinating," says Luca de Meo, Audi Board Member for Sales and Marketing. "And innovative ideas need supporters that promote them.
Audi design chief Egger leaving for Italdesign Giugiaro
Thu, 05 Dec 2013Wolfgang Egger, Audi's chief designer, is leaving the company according to a Automotive News Europe, which cites a report from Germany's Automobilwoche. Egger won't be going far, though, remaining within the Volkswagen family and taking up head design position Italdesign Giugiaro, a VW subsidiary as of 2010.
Egger took over the position at Audi from Walter de Silva, and has been responsible most recently for the Audi A6 and A3, as well as the 2010 Quattro Concept and the E-Tron Concept. He previously was head of design at Lancia and then at Alfa Romeo, where he was responsible for the achingly gorgeous 8C Competizione.
If Egger does move to Italdesign, his successor is likely to be Marc Lichte, the Volkswagen designer behind the current Golf. Of course, these personnel changes haven't been officially confirmed, and Audi is thus far refusing to comment on either Egger or Lichte's possible career shifts. We'll stay with this one, so sit tight.
