New Headlight Bulb

New Thermostat Housing

New Coolant

New Hood Shock

New Front Tires

2008 Audi S5 Quattro with 70k miles, direct injected 4.2 liter DOHC V8 and 6-speed manual transmission.  Dramatic stance courtesy H & R lowering springs and a pricey Meisterschaft exhaust system ($2,147) gives this German cruise missile a small block Chevy-like exhaust note.  Quality throughout is exquisite and unlike most dealers, we have seen to a few service items to ensure all the next buyer has to think about is how cool this car will look in his or her driveway.  New engine mounts, control arm bushings, a headlight bulb ($189!) and new front tires are things other dealers might overlook and a private seller probably wouldn't be aware of.  Even the hood support shock was replaced. . .

No accident history and the most sensuous shape on the road.

We don't have to tell you it's beautiful but we will point out that there is no tire rub, over train tracks or even with the front wheels turned all the way.  Pretty amazing considering how the 20-inch wheels and Hankook Ventus tires completely fill the fenders.  Also cool; silver finish outside mirrors and the biggest sun roof opening you've ever seen: 50.5 inches diagonal . . .

Tight Panel Seams

You have to love the dark tint/dark wheel combination with this color silver.  Curbside swagger is backed up by serious performance.  Even six years later, a 2008 S5 turns heads and can still amaze anyone lucky enough to find themselves piloting (or riding in) a car this special.  Acceleration is breathtaking and driver and passengers alike never forget how rare the experience is . . .

Audi played hard-to-get.

At introduction, there were few S5s to be had in the US.  From late 2007, well into model year 2009, buyers bragged if they were fortunate enough to score an S5 at or near full MSRP.  Nine months between deposit and delivery was not uncommon.  People often traveled the opposite ends of the country, accepting whatever color the car happened to be just to get their hands on one.  All of this occurring during the worst economic downturn since The Depression.  Audi clearly had a winner.  The long wait, jumping through hoops and 5-digit lease payments were all forgotten approximately one half second following a clean shift to third gear with the zingy V8 rocketing the big coupe deep into triple digits . . .

Love, American Style . . . fully serviced.

The Audi S5 is a classic American coupe, from Ingolstadt, with V8 muscle and a sound us Yanks can appreciate.  With low production, high performance used Audis, the trick is finding one that was not abused and doesn't need to be fixed.  Check, and check, with this S5.  As noted above, we had this car inspected by an Audi expert and ponied up three large to bring its factory recommended maintenance current.  All S5s require the same upkeep and if any other seller can't document this service, you will pay to have it done instead of us . . .

A very special car.

All S5s are unique and you rarely see another while on the road but even among these, this car is special.  It's fast, painfully attractive and has a melodic idle suggesting otherworldly performance.  With the Meisterschaft exhaust, the snarling 4.2 liter engine feels like it has twice its 354 rated horsepower.  Things like tight panel gap quality can easily be seen and everything you touch feels German and expensive.  The lowering springs provide the seemingly impossible opposites of an OEM smooth ride, firm handling and zero wheel rub.  Acceleration pins your ears back, the 12-speaker Bang and Olufsen audio system can vibrate license plates of cars in the next lane and all service is current and complete.  Worthy cars can be had no other way and if you want a spectacular, high performance Audi you'll never tire of looking at, this is your very special car.

Carbon Fiber

Optional carbon fiber inlays on the doors, rear side panels and console with top condition Silk Nappa leather everywhere.  Navigation, 505 watt Bang and Olufsen audio, an enormous panoramic roof and 12-way power seats are just part of the lavish list of amenities.  Absolutely nothing in here looks, feels and more importantly, functions, like a used car . . .

Quattro all-wheel-drive and a real 6-speed manual transmission combine adolescent fun with high tech safety . . .

DVD navigation and Auxiliary/iPod input . . .

Panoramic roof tilts open and has a sun shade . . .

4.2 Liter Direct Injection DOHC V8 Engine

354 horsepower @ 7,000/325 ft-lb torque @ 3,500 RPM

Basically a new car down here - dry and perfect . . .

This picture with the lower engine cover removed . . .

H & R Race lowering springs and high-polished, Meisterschaft stainless steel exhaust system . . .

Brand new front tires . . .

2017 Audi Q7 Second Drive

Tue, Dec 15 2015

One morning, I'm driving down the Malibu coast, top-down in a two-seat sports car. Twelve hours later, I'm on a straight road, in traffic, and piloting a seven-seat SUV. I think this is how new parents feel. There's no other word but "parental" to describe how three-row crossovers, like this 2017 Audi Q7, make me feel. Whether it was the Honda Pilot that was actually kind of tossable, or the plush Kia Sorento, one glance in the rear-view mirror at five headrests makes you wonder if someone isn't waiting for you outside an elementary school. The Q7, however, has always been a luxury car first. And this second-generation model is crammed with technology and convenience features to make life more effortless, as if it was designed for a person who lives in Bel Air but also must take the kids to horse-riding lessons on the one weekend it rains in Southern California. Autoblog already tested a European example, but I'm now getting the chance to finally drive it Stateside. When it comes to the Q7's appearance, I always seem to have a minority opinion. The old one looked like a bus when plenty of people said it looked beautiful. This new one has been widely criticized for looking like a wagon, but I don't see a lot wrong here. At some angles, it's reminiscent of the old 5000 Avants from the '80s – probably not a coincidence, since the Q7 is Audi's most prestigious wagon right now. Even Audi admits it pulled from the '80s with styling cues along the rear quarter panels and the ever-larger "Quattro" badges. While the shape grows on you, it isn't going to stop people seeing it and thinking it's a Q5. The new Audi Q7 has an incredible sense of elegance about it. The most ambitious design touches are the arrows in the LED lights, front and rear, but they're ultimately dwarfed by the size of the car. What's more, the string of white, silver, and gray cars on hand at our test aren't exactly striking, and the optional 20-inch wheels are boring in design. You could also call this "quiet luxury." Or perhaps stately. The new Audi Q7 has an incredible sense of elegance about it, never feeling ponderous like a truck and always feeling secure like a large luxury sedan. As the first application of the Volkswagen Group's MLB Evo platform, it really is a large luxury wagon. Which is the exact image the company seems to be running from.

Audi Allroad Shooting Brake is a TT peep show

Mon, 13 Jan 2014

What you're looking at here is the almost-here third-generation Audi TT. Just compress the suspension a bit to take away its Allroad pretensions and rake its backlight to align better with the previous generation's aesthetic, and you're pretty well there. What you're looking at officially, of course, is the Audi Allroad Shooting Brake, a four-seat E-Tron hybrid showcar powered by Audi's venerable 2.0-liter TFSI four-cylinder (good for 292 horsepower) backed by a 40-kW electric motor and a secondary 85-kW motor acting upon the rear axle to provide low- and moderate-speed drive. The latter also provides through-the-road Quattro all-wheel drive when extra traction and power is called for.
All-in, Audi says the Allroad Shooting Brake's ETron powertrain is good for 408 horsepower and total system torque of 479 pound-feet, enough to haul the 3,500-pound German to 62 miles per hour in 4.6 seconds and up to a governed 155 mph. Despite that tidy performance, Audi says the Allroad Shooting Brake offers robust fuel consumption of 1.9 liters per 100k, equivalent to 124 miles per gallon, with a bladder-busting range of 510 miles.

Choose your own adventure in Audi's next Super Bowl commercial

Fri, 25 Jan 2013

Audi has a 60-second spot planned for this year's Super Bowl to promote its S6 sedan, but exactly which spot will air is being put in the hands of Internet users. The ad follows a high schooler as he "embarks on one of the most pivotal moments of his adolescence: prom night." The spot is fixed up to the pivotal moment when he steals a kiss from the prom queen. From that moment, there are three possible endings.
Today, up until 11:59 pm, Audi is running three different versions on its YouTube channel and you can vote on which ending you'd like to see during The Big Game. The winning spot will run on YouTube before the game and then run in the first ad break after kickoff during the Super Bowl. Coca-Cola is running a similar interactive campaign, although its potential endings will involve cowboys, showgirls and a post-Apocalyptic badass, none of which we expect to make it into Audi's prom night spot. Scroll below to view all three alternate ending videos and cast your vote.
