Audi's Q8 Sport concept packs an electric supercharger

Audi's Q8 Sport concept doesn't wear S or RS badges, but it does have impressive performance that would qualify it for one of those monikers. Beneath the tangerine skin, Audi says there is a hybrid V6 displacing 3.0 liters, which isn't particularly interesting, but the forced induction system is. Rather than a conventional turbo or belt-driven supercharger, the V6 uses an electrically-powered supercharger. Audi doesn't provide any details on what kind of compressor it is, but it says the total output of the engine and motor combo is 476 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. This is apparently good for a 4.7-second sprint to 62 mph. This also isn't the first time Audi has implemented an electric supercharger, having used it before on the SQ7 TDI. That orange shell also has updates to show that this Q8 Sport is the fast one. Most of the brushed aluminum trim of the normal Q8 concept has been swapped for gloss black versions. The regular Q8's grille with its chrome vertical bars is also gone in favor of a black honeycomb piece. The fenders have all been stretched by half an inch, and the exhaust tips are now large ovals that protrude from the rear bumper. Audi still hasn't said anything about when a production Q8 will reach the market. 1984 Audi Sport Quattro expected to hammer at nearly half a million dollars

The highest prices paid at automobile auctions continue to be claimed by European sports cars, with names like Ferrari and Bugatti forever topping the lists. But what we have here is not quite a sports car. It's more of a hot hatch, but its still expected to fetch between $350,000 and $475,000 when it goes up for auction next month in Arizona. That's because this is no ordinary hot hatch... it's the prototypical hot hatch: the legendary Audi Sport Quattro, one of the most maniacal and dominant homologated rally machines ever devised. Shorter in wheelbase and dartier of handling than the Ur-Quattro that came before it, the later Sport Quattro was built to comply to with the FIA's legendary Group B regulations. That meant that it competed with the likes of the Lancia 037, Ford RS200 and Ferrari 288 GTO – beating them all in the World Rally Championship one after another – but also had to be built in limited quantities and sold to the public. And so Audi and its nascent Quattro GmbH skunkworks division built 214 road-going examples of the Sport Quattro, and this could very well be the most immaculate example in existence. It was previously owned by noted collector Yoshikuni Okamoto of Kobe, Japan, and with barely more than 5,000 miles on the odometer, recently underwent an exhaustive service at Audi of Fairfield, CT – one of the company's largest dealerships – and though the Sport Quattro was never offered for sale in the US, this one is now fully registered for use on American roads and comes in impeccable condition despite its 30 years of age. German prosecutors investigating Audi for emissions scandal

After weeks of investigation into Volkswagen by prosecutors in Braunschweig, Germany, attorneys in Ingolstadt will also begin an examination into Audi's potential role in the emissions scandal. They reportedly received multiple criminal complaints that requested an inquiry, including one from Audi, according to Bloomberg. The prosecutors in Ingolstadt want to focus on people within the automaker that are responsible for emissions. However, the investigation is still too early in the process to identify any specific suspects. The German lawyers might also eventually combine their cases, but they remain separate for now. "Braunschweig took those parts that are clearly located at Volkswagen and asked us to keep the elements limited to Audi," a spokesperson for the Ingolstadt attorneys told Bloomberg. Audi has 2.1 million vehicles worldwide with Volkswagen Group's emissions-cheating four-cylinder diesel, including an estimated 13,000-14,000 of them in the US. The Environmental Protection Agency also recently filed a second violation notice against the 3.0-liter TDI V6 that was used in several of the company's models here, and the automaker responded with a stop sale for them. VW Group's carbon-dioxide emissions cheating in Europe also reportedly involves some Audi models. In that case, engineers admitted to artificially improving test results to achieve the cuts that the automaker requested.
