See the new Audi A8 early in Spider-Man: Homecoming

Audi is moving beyond being the primary car provider for Tony Stark in the Iron Man films, and is taking a major role in the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming film. Though product placement is generally obnoxious, at least this placement will give car enthusiasts a sneak peek at the new Audi A8. The car is slated for a full debut on July 11, but Audi says the car appears in Spider-Man, which comes out much sooner on June 28. Though the car has yet to be fully revealed, we know it will have a unique 48-volt electrical system and semi-autonomous driving technology. Audi says that some of that semi-autonomous technology will be on display in the film. As cool as that may be, we're concerned about other Audi placement in the film. Apparently an R8 convertible will reprise its role as Tony Stark's daily driver, which makes sense, but Peter Parker will be driving a TTS Roadster, which makes much less sense. In case you weren't aware, Peter Parker is a lower-middle class high school student, so unless there's a plot twist in which he comes into a lot of money suddenly, a new TTS isn't something we'd expect to see him drive. Audi doesn't give much context for the TTS's appearance, so maybe the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man borrows (or joyrides in) the Audi at some point. First impressions of Audi's next TT interior and Virtual Cockpit [w/video]

Not content to pummel CES show goers with laser lights and self-piloting vehicles, Audi has also pulled the wraps (well, some of the wraps) off the interior of its upcoming next-gen TT. While the car itself wasn't on hand for us to check out, Audi did mock up the cockpit, complete with its all-new Virtual Cockpit central display and the latest iteration of the company's Multi Media Interface (MMI).
Virtual Display is Audi's new brand name for a completely digital reinterpretation of the instrument binnacle, by way of a 12.3-inch TFT screen. Audi tells us that there are two operable modes for Virtual Display: in the standard mode, an average-sized tachometer and speedometer flank a smaller infotainment portion in the center. Infotainment mode, meanwhile, shrinks the gauges to discreet circles and allows the navigation map, audio controls, or whichever system is being operated by the driver, to fill the remaining screen real estate.
This design, says Audi, allowed engineers to slim down the size of the center console as a whole, without reducing function for the driver. We can say that it looks very impressive as a demonstrator, but we will need some time with it in a moving vehicle before we're convinced it isn't slightly more distracting that a traditional setup.

Audi Q4 crossover starts production in 2019, Q8 in 2018

Audi's crossover line-up will be expanding in the next couple of years. The company announced production dates both for the already announced Q8 flagship, as well as its less-publicized Q4 compact. The Q8 will begin production next year at a plant in Slovakia that currently builds the Q7. The Q4 will start production in 2019 at a plant in Hungary that will also build the Q3. Audi has shown us concepts of the Q8 already, and we've seen prototypes undergoing testing. But Audi hasn't said much about the Q4 until now, and we haven't seen camouflaged examples running around yet. Audi says the Q4 will have a "coupe-style silhouette" and "be positioned between the Audi Q3 and Q5." Of course that second part you probably figured out based on the name. The description of its looks leads us to believe that this will be the production version of the Audi TT Offroad concept, pictured above, from a few years ago. However, don't expect the concept's 408-horsepower hybrid powertrain to be offered, at least not at the start. It's been a long time coming for this crossover. The TT Offroad was reportedly confirmed for production back in 2015. And last year, Audi secured the trademark for Q4 from Fiat Chrysler. With production starting in 2019, it will probably still be a while before we get a glimpse at the new SUV. Odds are, we'll see a concept early next year at the soonest, followed by the production model at the end of 2018. As for the Q8, we would expect to see the production model revealed at the end of this year, or possibly early next year. Related Video:
