Buying a house so my R8 needs to go ASAP! After owning an Elise, and a Gallardo I opted for the R8 V8 for my next supercar. I couldn't be a happier owner! Compared to the Lamborghini and Ferrari the R8 V8 is affordable and comfortable as a daily driver. The magnetic suspension provides for a very smooth ride over rough pavement, and stiff suspension when you hit the canyons. The original exhaust was fairly quiet and I was looking for something with more of a growl so I upgraded to the GMG WC-R8 GT Exhaust ($6,600 installed) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQI94ZJxwuQ&feature=share&list=UUWrdZtbw7PP16Vt1YHZk9rg The exhaust completely changed the attitude of the car and is sure to make you smile the entire drive. The R-Tronic transmission shifts firm with no clutch issues, tires have 85% tread remaining, engine is a reliable beast with around 440hp. I've driven it from California to Colorado a few times and have nothing but great things to say about owning it. This is a supercar you can drive to the grocery store (I did) and then out to a nice dinner. Justin Bell laps Willow Springs... in the dark... using only night vision
Fri, 11 Jan 2013Night vision has made its way into quite a few luxury cars as a night-driving safety feature, but eBay Motors wanted to see if the technology could be used to actually drive the car. Former racer and World's Faster Car Show host Justin Bell grabbed the keys to an Audi A7 and headed to Willow Springs Raceway to find out.
As if driving in the dark of the desert night wasn't hard enough, the car's windshield and side windows were blacked out, so Bell's driving relied completely on the three-inch night vision display located in the gauge cluster. In addition to navigating the track, his producers also threw in a few surprises for Bell on the track. We don't want to spoil too much for you, but based on the speeds exhibited in the video, we don't think 24-hour endurance races will be adding this tech any time soon; that being said, he probably drove the car faster and better than we could have.

But we're not here for any of that - we've made the trip with Audi in order to experience the Rolex 24 at Daytona, the first race in the 2013 Grand-Am season and the only 24-hour race in America.
Three teams are racing four Audi R8 Grand-Am cars - WeatherTech Racing, Rum Bum Racing and APR, which is running two cars. Shown to the world two years ago, the R8 Grand-Am is part of Audi Sport's R8 LMS customer racing program that was commenced in 2008, and ever since 2009 has been nabbing success all over the world: In four years it has taken 154 victories and 17 series titles. That is with less than 100 cars sold to customers throughout the world, and the trophies - either class wins or overall victories - have been gathered from all of the major endurance races except one: Daytona.
VW, Mobileye to bring new automated tech to series production
Wed, Mar 20 2024Volkswagen will bring new automated driving technologies to series production as it deepens its partnership with Mobileye in automotive driving technologies, Europe's biggest carmaker said on Wednesday. Israeli automotive tech company Mobileye will provide driving assistance software based on its SuperVision and Chauffeur platforms to VW's luxury brands such as Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini and Porsche. The technologies, which later will be integrated by VW's software unit Cariad, include assistance systems for highway and urban driving, such as automated overtaking on multilane highways, automatic stopping at red lights and stop signs, and support in intersections and roundabouts. "New automated driving functions will significantly boost convenience and safety," VW Chief Executive Oliver Blume said. Mobileye is also set to supply further automated driving software to Volkswagen's commercial vehicles unit. In future, the German carmaker aims to rely on its own complete in-house software system.
